That said, I like the idea of a physical feraligatr, I had a bit of trouble with my special-based one in GSC. How about a sub-puncher?

{feraligatr} @ lefties
Adamant | Torrent
78-HP 180-Att 252-Spd
>Substitute
>Swords Dance
>Focus Punch
>Rest/Attract

Sub-Punch part is self-expl, SD is to further eccentuate the physical damage aspect, and Rest would be to recover HP (obviously). Attract would be to extend the effects of Substitute. Thoughts anyone?

Credit to Lugia34, wouldn't have thought of it without him/her

I like the idea, sounds good. I'd suggest Attract, and maybe Rest over SD. This is why: If you attract, then you have the chance of setting up the Sub undisturbed. If you get it in, then you are guaranteed one Focus Punch, possibly more. Swords Dance is ok, and if it's your taste, then go with it over Rest. You need Rest for one reason: Sub-Punching requires an HP sacrifice. Sure Lefties helps out, but if you can't get a sub up and you don't have enough health to sub again, then you're doomed.

And there are always Sableye and Banette in UU to counter this, because of the immunity to Fighting.

Overall nice idea, wenziz.

I've thought something up for Milotic; Though since it has no trapping abilities, it's potential is weakened a little. So here it is:

{milotic} @Lefties
Bold Nature
108HP / 214DEF / 188SD

~ Toxic
~ Attract / Surf
~ Confuse Ray
~ Recover

Annoyer.

Alternatives: {corsola}.

Mainly for double battles, as it can force your opponent into a switch-out. This means you have a good opening to attack with a powerful sweeper, etc.
Here's how it works: First, use Toxic, if succesful, try Confuse Ray (Not attract, as your opponent could possibly switch into a pokemon of the same gender). Now you may Recover, or if you really think it'll work, use attract. From there, if you have Surf / Ice Beam, you may go on the offensive.

It has it's flauws, but might work. I've yet to test it though.

Nice idea on this set, and yes, it would be better in Double Battles. Toxic is self-explanatory on an annoyer/tank and attract helps stalling, this keeping your health up. Recover is a good idea on this, as it always is on Tanks. You'd have to couple this with a partner, as one this set there is no attacking move on this. If you want to include Surf, I'd suggest putting it over Attract, but Confuse Ray works too... except Attract only works on half the pokemon, and doesn't deal damage on the stopped hits, while CR does.

ZOMG a creative Milotic set. Nice, Cal.

Starmie's pretty good there. If you go straight for an attack at weakness this is really good:
{starmie} @ lefties
-Thunder
-Surf
-Psychic
-Recover

Agreed, but I used to have ice beam instead of recover because I wanted to damage more types. In this case you're open to pokemon like bellossom because surf and thunderbolt do half damage and you still stand to either miss or be taken out before psychic comes into play. *shrug* but I think it's still good.

Hm. My favorite would have to be {vaporeon} or maybe {dewgong}.
And my {wartortle} has grown on me ( I even stoped it from evolving...)
so I like Wartortles too. I lurve my Pelipper as well. Not some of the best Pokemon to fight with, but eh.

Heh, Wartortle wa smy first real hitter. Took it into Rock Tunnel in RBY, but didn't know about Flash, so I when I finally got out I had a L70 Wartortle, which eventually evolved into Blastoise at L90 or so.

What about Azumarill? I noticed (I think) that nobody's tried it yet.

{azumarill} @ Leftovers
Thick Fat | 252-Def 252-SD 6-SA
>Surf
>Ice Beam
>Substitute
>Future Sight/Light Screen

Or at least, that's what I think. Thoughts anyone?

I'd have to go with Lanturn, Lapras, and Marill.

Lanturn is pretty sweet because not only can it zap-fry other water types, but toss in a Confuse Ray followed by a hearty dose of Thunder Wave and you've got yourself one very distraught opponent.

Lapras learns really good moves like Ice Beam, Body Slam, and Confuse ray, plus its Defense and HP are insanely high. That's a keeper in my book!

Finally, Marill just rocks! It has a decent arsenal of water moves (not to mention the Defense Curl/Rollout combo) and good base defense. Plus, I just think it looks cool...

hmm... It doesn't really have the potential to be a tank, however, Adamant nature + 252 ATK EVs = 438 ATK I think, which is lethal.
Sadly Azumarill has no physical STAB, so he still isn't a very good fighter, but with lots of skill, Azumarill can be made into a proper fighting machine.

Absolutely awful. I had been debating whether or not to reply to this post with the incredibly hott (and underrated!) Azumarill because it's my ideal Water Pokemon: UU, cute, and good in battle. No offense, but sets like the one you posted here are the reason people think Azumarill sucks. Its Special Attack is horrible, so having three Special moves is laughable; ignoring Azumarill's high HP to max out its below average Defenses isn't good, either. Thick Fat should never be used under any circumstances, especially on Azumarill... it's much more useful to give it Huge Power and an Adamant nature. Max out HP and Attack EVs, give it Substitute and Focus Punch, and you get a 101 Subpuncher that owns things with 438 Attack AND laughs at Blissey's Ice Beam. Toss on Return, HP Ghost, and/or Encore, and Image = <3.

Well, I'd suggest a Cloyster in FR/LG (which it must be in because this is in the FR/LG topic) because not only does he have water type, but also ice type, and there aren't too many ice types around, which are very very helpful to kill dragons. But, you may want a Kingdra, because it's only weakness is dragon, which it can defeat also, but, it is much harder to get a Kingdra, not to mention it doesn't have very good stats. Do you think I'm done talking? No. And if you will choose Cloyster, I would reccomend raising it to level 50 as a Shellder, to learn ice beam, and then evolve it via water stone. Personally I'd use Cloyster (which I already have), but if you just want to have fun, choose Kingdra, but is also good, but has pretty boring stats. And why am I capitolizing pokemon names? Oh well, I hope you appreciate this info (mostly opinion). :D

FR= Vaporeon (I pretty much like all the eons and Eevee, but Flareon, bleh. Acid Armor rocks!)
RSE= Swampert (One weaknees is soooo cool! Execpt for the fact that its weakness does 4x damage...Cool that it can't be hit by electric attacks, especially Thunder Wave.)

I really like any cool Water pokemon with Earthquake. Among my top favorites are Blastoise, Feraligart and Gyarados.
Tentacruel is awesome because of its versatility and Sp. Defense.
And I guess Octillery is cool too because of its very wide movepool.

I find all the starter water pokemon to be the best. They can learn awsome moves. They have amazing stats. My second starter choice would be the fire.

There are many good water Pokemon and bad water Pokemon.

Here are some water Pokemon that in my opinion are great:

{blastoise}. Blastoise is my 2nd favorite starter from Kanto. Blastoise can learn many cool attacks that are great like Hydro Pump, Hydro Cannon, Earthquake, and much more...

{tentacruel}. Tentacruel has very high Special Defense and has a very nice type combination. Tentacruel can also learn cool attacks like Hydro Pump, and Sludge Bomb.

{slowbro}. Slowbro looks good. Slowbro has a nice type combination. Slowbro has very high Defense.

{seaking}. Seaking made it to my RBY team. Seaking can also learn Hydro Pump. Mega Horn is a really great attack that Seaking can learn when it reaches Level 69.

{starmie}. Starmie has high Speed, and has a nice type combination. Starmie can learn elecric attacks such as: Thunderbolt, and Thunder. Starmie is really powerful in my opinion.

{gyarados}. Gyarados has many cool, and great attacks that don't match its own type, such as : Flamethrower, and Thunderbolt! Gyarados has very good type combination. Gyarados has only two weakness!

{lapras}. Lapras is my favorite pokemon. Lapras has very high HP. Lapras can learn attacks that don't match its type, like: Thunderbolt. Lapras has many very great attacks.

{vaporeon}. Who hates it? Vapreon has very high HP and Special Attack. Vaporeon in my opinion is the best pokemon in the Eevee family.

{omastar}. Omastar has very high Defense and Special Attack. Very good type combination. Whhat can I say more about it?

{kabutops}. Kabutops is my favorite fossil pokemon. Kabutops has very high Attack. Kabutops also has a very good type combination. In my opinon its better than Omastar.

{feraligatr}. Feraligatr is my 2nd favorite Jhoto pokemon. Feragligatr is very hard to find it, if you are playing LG/FR. Feragligatr is just so awesome!

{lanturn}. Lanturn has a very great type comination. Lanturn has very high HP. Thats all I could say about it.

{azumarill}. Azumarill has nice attacks. Azumaril looks good. I also like it because Marill is cute.

{quagsire}. Quagsire has a very excellent type combination.

{slowking}. Slowking has very high Special Defense. Slowking has very nice attacks. Slowking has a nice type comination.

{octillery}. Octillery looks good. Octillery can learn Octazooka!

{mantine}. Manitne has a good type combination. Manite has high Special Defense.

{kingdra}. Kingdra has the best water type comination. Kingras has only 1 weakness! Kingra has alomst high stats in evrything.

{suicune}. Suicune is my favorite Jhoto legendary pokemon. Suicune has high Defense and Special Defense. In my opinion Suicune is the best legendary dog.

{swampert}. Swampert has a very good type comination. Swapert has high Attack. Swapert is better than Quagsire.

{ludicolo}. Ludicolo has a very good type combination. Rain Dish is a very good ability.

{wailord}. Wailord has very high HP. Oblivious is a very great ability.

{crawdaunt}. Crawdaunt has very high Attack. Crawdunt is also is also in one of RSE's Frontier Brain. (I think)

{milotic}. Milotic has very high Special Defense. I hate it, but its good anyway.

{walrein}. Walrein has very high HP. Walrein looks ugly but when it is in ur team, it will be worth it.

{relicanth}. Relicanth is ugly ugly ugly ugly ulgy ugly, but it has very high Defense.

{kyogre}. Kyogre has very high Special Attack and Special Defense. Kyogre looks like the best looking Hoenn pokemon.

I was building a new team and came across this board and I've chosen to stick with Starmie because it's said to be a great sweeper. :D I just joined yesterday but I really like this site.

HARD QUESTION! Anyways, there are many:

{kyogre} Do I really have to explain this one?

{blastoise} {gyarados} {lapras} All originals that I loved. Old school power.

{swampert} {feraligatr} {blastoise} These are the water starters so they deserve a place on my list.

{ludicolo} {whiscash} {lanturn} {gyarados} {huntail} {gorebyss} My sapphire team. These I find most effective against most foes and are my favorites.

I really don't have a great preference for water-types, but if I had a water-based team (which I don't yet) I'd probably do:

{blastoise} @ Shell Bell
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
-Brick Break

I've found Blastoise to be a defense-heavy pokemon, which basically means even 2x special effective attacks won't damage it too badly.

{lapras} @ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Body Slam/Psychic
-Thunderbolt

It'd be pretty good against other water-based teams, and its high HP will maximize the leftovers' usage.

{kyogre} @ Shell Bell
-Surf/Water Spout
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Calm Mind

Special sweeper, clearly, water spout just loses some of Surf's accuracy. I toyed with the idea of using Rest, but that would just take 3 turns, even worse than Hyper Beam's 2 turns.

{walrein} @ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Rest/Encore
-Snore/Body Slam

Surf & Ice Beam are STAB attacks, even though apart from HP Walrein's pretty average. The Stockpile/Swallow/Spitup trio occured to me as possible, but not if I wanted any STAB points. Encore/Body Slam seemed alright, but I haven't tried them out as yet.

{articuno} @ Shell Bell
-Aerial Ace
-Ice Beam
-Water Pulse
-Steel Wing

To deal with the friskier part-ice types that won't succumb to the water attacks and electric attacks.

{aggron} @ Sitrius Berry -> Rock Head
-Metal Claw/Iron Tail
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake/Double Edge
-Swagger

Physical sweeper, plain & pretty simple. Swagger's increased damage should be taken care of with Aggron's high defense. Earthquake sacrifices power against recoil, but if it has Rock head, Double Edge is more powerful, and EQ doesn't hit ghosts anyway.

I thought the other possibility over {walrein} would be:
{slowking} @ Leftovers
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Flamethrower
-Psychic

Surf and Psychic are STAB (again) and Ice Beam can be switched out for something else (Shadow Ball?), but no water-type seems complete without it (not to me anyway). Flamethrower surprised me, but Slowking apparently can learn it, which takes care of nasty grass/bug/steel/ice types (eeeeeek!!!).

So that's my would-be team. What do ya'll think?

I would never use swagger unless I also had psych up in my movesets. Even with the high defense its risky
