Post subject:  Double Team

I remember in pokemon stadium 1 there was a guy who used pokemon that always used double team alot, he was really tough. I think he had a:

{vaporeon}
{persian}
{exeggutor}
{dugtrio}
and two others, maybe
{electabuzz} and
{arcanine}

I was thinking of making a team like this on firered. Do you think it would work good?

I suppose it would work well in theory, but Aerial Ace, Shadow Punch, Shock Wave, and the almighty Swift will pawn you. :P

In-game, this is impractical, as the in-game trainers are pretty easy to beat. But for NetBattle, I can see this working very well. But there are those who say DT is n00by . . . and no one wants to be called a n00b.

Who cares if it's "nooby". That just makes it all the better when you win anyway. Anyone who turns a blind eye to a useful strategy - just because it's not what they use - is a tool.

whats so n00bie bout it o.O the move is there to use and its ment to dodge the persons moves. So what they get mad when they cant hit you, i think thats the point of the move.

fun fact: people are more likely to throw out claims of "cheap" "broken" and "n00bish" when they just got their ass handed to them. I find it funny that people on, for example netbattle, will ban things like Kyogre or Mewtwo, when they're supposedly awesome strategists with complex movesets. If they're so damn advanced, there wouldn't be any banned pokemon OR banned movesets. People will ban and clause the hell out of what they can't beat. The rules of the game are set by designers, not self proclaimed experts that set up a whole bunch of personal rules so that things go their way. If you're gonna play, play to win. If using Double Team helps you win, go for it. If Mewtwo makes a win that much easier, go for it. Like captain cool said, "Anyone who turns a blind eye to a useful strategy - just because it's not what theyuse - is a tool."

Double team can be very tough! That guy on PS1 had his vaporeon with acid armor and about 5 double teams!

If anyone tells you Double Team is n00bish, just ask 'em where their Hazer is. Personally, I don't think Double Team is n00bish, just not very useful in-game. And on NetBattle, it's best used by something like Umbreon and then Passed.

I kind of dislike how weak the in-game trainers are. Granted, there are so many that you can't spend 20 minutes struggling to beat each one, but it sucks when you can Wing Attack or Psybeam through whole areas. It doesn't really give you any realistic strategical practice. I can see someone getting completely blindsided by their first real opponent if all they've battled were in-game trainers.

that's why I like things like Battle Tower and the colosseum games. They're a step up from the run of the mill ingame trainers, and are at least decent practice if you don't know anybody near you who plays pokemon...

besides, weak trainers = easy EXP :P

With all of the "Never-Miss" attacks these days, it's useless.

Haze, Shockwave, Swift, Shadow Punch, Faint Attack, Aerial Ace,
Magical Leaf, Mind Reader, Lock-on, etc.

I would say the most commonly used attack in that list is probably Aerial Ace and Haze, so actually it's not that risky to use Double Team.

I only see Aerial Ace, Haze and maybe Magical Leaf. Most people would rather use T-Bolt than Shock Wave, Shadow Ball than, etc.

Double Team in my opinion is more annoying when used on a Crobat or Umbreon. or even Shuckle.

Key Word: Most

My Umbreon has Psychic, Faint Attack, Confuse Ray and Moonlight.
I don't have any room for Double Team.

Also, I've taught Shockwave to my Manectric, Faint Attack to Umbreon,
Magical Leaf to Tropius and Mind Reader or Lock-on to anyone who can
learn it.

I can still use Double Team even if some people do use moves such as Shockwave. All I have to do is to stick to using other moves when faced with such opponents. It doesn't waste one slot on my Pokemon because most other opponents don't use such attacks. And imagine how tedious it is if you have to use Mind Reader every other turn just to hit me.

I think Double Team is only good in combination with Sand Veil, Cacturne for example can make great use of Double Team.

Yes, but that can make for some very interesting never-miss hits.
For instance, what happens if I tell my Articuno (who holds Quick Claw)
to use Mind Reader the 1st turn and then Sheer Cold the 2nd turn?

Your pokemon would be knocked out and you wouldn't be able to do
anything about it! (provided that your pokemon doesn't have Sturdy as its
ability) :D

By the way, Thunder also never misses when Rain Dance is in effect, so
it's better than Thunderbolt and Shockwave.

Also, Vital Throw never misses either.

And Odor Sleuth and Foresight make the opponents' evasive raising
techniques have no effect.

<font color=ACEACE>A friend gave me a Shiny Shuckle for my Christmas Present. It is kind of sad though I am going to use that moveset. I will just put on Rest and Leftovers on there. I am not sure how it will work though I think it will be quite interesting.

I think DoubleTeam is only good on certain Pokemon. Usually hardcore Tanks (CosmicPower, DoubleTeam, Rest, EQ/Psychic on and Claydol works really well) or an annoyer (Substitue, Thunderwave, DoubleTeam, Surf on a Lanturn is also cool). Though having it on a sweeper is usually no good.
