O.K., I'm going to assume you know how to perform the Mew Glitch.

- You can use the Mew Glitch to obtain any PKMN in the game.

If you're not a geek, you don't wank to read this. :)

When you use Fly to get away from the Gambler, the game somehow "remembers" that a battle is supposed to be taking place on Route 8. This is what causes your Start button to stop working. The rest of the trick hinges on a twelve-byte section of memory, starting at memory location CD22 in Yellow (CD23 in Red/Blue), which contains the stats of the last Pokémon you fought. After you battle the Youngster, it will have these hexadecimal values:

8E 11 00 3C 00 1E 00 1D 00 1C 00 15

The first byte (8E) seems to be the same for all battles.
The second byte (11) is the enemy's level (17 in decimal).
The next ten bytes are the enemy's stats (HP/Attack/Defense/Speed/Special). Each stat takes up two bytes.
Additionally, this section of memory is surrounded by eight bytes on each side, which all have the value 07.

The last byte (15) in Yellow memory location CD2D (CD2E in Red/Blue) is the important one. It is the "least significant byte" of the enemy Pokémon's Special stat; in this case, it means that the enemy has a Special of 21 in standard decimal notation.

When you return to Route 8, the game tries to resume the battle that was interrupted before. For reasons unknown, it borrows byte CD2D to use as the species identifier for the enemy Pokémon, and the next byte to use as its level. If the last battle you fought was with the Youngster, these bytes will be 15 and 07. Since Mew's hexadecimal identifier is 15, you will fight a Level 7 Mew.

Now that you know how the trick works, you can use it to catch other Pokémon. Fighting the Youngster will always result in a Mew encounter because his Slowpoke has a Special of 21 (15 in hex). But if you fight something else before returning to Route 8, it will change which Pokémon you encounter.

Let's say you foolishly choose a starting Pokémon other than Bulbasaur and want to make up for it. Bulbasaur's hex number is 99, which converts to 153 in decimal. Now, you could fight a wild Pokémon with a Special of 153, but the only place to find that is on a Level 64 Chansey in the Unknown Dungeon, and those Chansey are quite rare. Worse, they only have a one-in-sixteen chance of having the right Special. Fortunately, there is a solution: Ditto's Transform, which copies the stats of the opponent.

This means that you can catch any Pokémon in the game by following these steps:

Catch/raise a Pokémon with the proper Special stat (153 for Bulbasaur).

Fly away from the Gambler battle.

Fight any trainer that can see you from a distance and walk up to you. (This is necessary to both unlock your Start button and trigger the Route 8 battle.)

Find a wild Ditto and let it Transform into your Pokémon with the proper Special.

Beat the Ditto (or just run away) and immediately fly to Lavender Town without fighting anything else.

Enter Route 8, and Bulbasaur (or whatever) will appear.

Note that since only the least significant of the two Special bytes is used for this, you can also add 256 to the values listed above and use that Special to get the same Pokémon. This is important because there are a few Pokémon, such as Kangaskhan, whose identifying value is lower than the minimum Special that any Pokémon can have. In Kangaskhan's case, you can find her by using a Special of 258 (2 + 256).

Also note that when you perform this trick, any trainers you fight after the Gambler will be "used up." Make sure you have enough unused trainers to catch all the Pokémon you want! Fortunately, the Gambler can be used to initiate the trick an unlimited number of times.

Use the Mew glitch earlier:

Buy an escape rope before you go to Rock Tunnel, or have a pokemon that knows Dig. Do the Mew glitch using any trainer in RT, then go back to the youngster on the way on Bill's house and fight him so you can get the Mew. Then just go back to Rock Tunnel. You can do this even earlier in Pewter City.

An even EARLIER way:

This only works on Red and Blue. You can't get Mew, unless you have a move that decreases special stats, which you don't. Buy an escape rope. First, What you want to do is step in front of the kid who'll lead you to Pewter Gym. He will start talking to you. When he says "Follow me!", press B to exit and immediately press START. If you did it correctly, you will have paused the game without you two moving. Save your game and reset. When you load your game again, he will try to lead you to Pewter Gym, but will fail miserably.

Go back to where the kid was when he's done going nowhere, and you'll see he isn't there. Stand where he stood, save your game, reset. When you load your game again you will be on top of the kid. Simply walk to the right and you have skipped
Pewter Gym!

Go to MT. Moon and do the Mew Glitch with a trainer there, but use the escape rope. You will teleport back to Pewter's PKMN Center. Fight Brock, win, and Go back to Mt. Moon and fight whoever! (You can't get Mew.)

@KE: I think all of the above.

Anyways, I am going to start documenting every trainer in RBY, and what PKMN they generate using the Mew Glitch for sake of convenience. The only exceptions are:

The first few battles with Gary
Brock (Yellow only because of the glitch that was fixed in Yellow)

The only one I have documented so far:

Youngster on Route 17 - Mew

Is anyone willing to help me?

Damn that is some heavy technical knowledge, I feel like a dumbass now haha XP
But wow, I noticed the hex numbers seem to be the codes put into the gameshark to make any pokemon appear in the wild anywhere, so basically this is gamesharking a pokemon without the gameshark. BADASS! I may try this in my red seeing as I lost my damn gameshark XP

Does it have to be the gambler and the youngster or could you use other sets of trainers? On youtube it seemed as though when the video makers used a different set of trainers other than the gambler and the youngster it resulted in a glitch pokemon.

The Youngster by Bill isn't the only person you can obtain a Mew from. The first trainer (male swimmer) in Misty's Gym will also give you a Mew. Oh, and one of the trainer's (I think it was one of the old Men or Gentlemen on the ship that has a Growlithe) gives you MissingNo. Which if caught, is a LV2 Rhydon with the attacks Water Gun, Water Gun, Sky Attack and requires a few hundred thousand exp to go to LV3.

In reply to a previous thread concerning the trainers and what you get for them, i've done a couple and here are my results so far on Yellow:

Tentacool 18 24 Pokemaniac north of tower in lavender town, trainer out of town
Gastly 19 25 Hiker northwest of lavender town, south of jump-able ledge
Pinsir 1D 29 Jr. Trainer F left of lavender town exit to rock tunnel
Arcanine 14 20 Lvl 15 Zubat (this was accidental! I went into rock tunnel after battling Jr. Trainer above on a second attempt and the zubat attacked)

hope this helps, and as i progress with it I'll pop my findings up on here :)

Missingnos:
Rocket 2 floors down in game corner, facing south by the big tables. This makes people appear in silly places in Lavender town and for you to appear on the far left of the screen, but still control the middle square. Its hillarious!
Middle and south channelers on second floor, west and south on the third, of Pokemon tower, both crash the game.

HI,
so I recently found this website containing a full list of all the glitch pokemon that the mew glitch is able to produce.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/gameboy/367023- ... faqs/59445
you need a pokemon on your team with a certain special stat number to determine which of these glitch pokemon will appear.

Darn, was hoping a Meowth had been found. Though mad props on the work already posted.

got a thing for Meowth but unfortunately can't catch him in yellow and it's a bit hard to find people to trade with right now.

Wow, folks I highly recommend watching MissingnoXpert on youtube for a demonstration of all glitches known to RBY. I've been watching his 'Lets Glitch Pokemon Yellow' series all freaking day, at least half of which is his experimenting with the many possibilities of the mew glitch and he is very entertaining. He also has Red and Blue series which I have not gotten to yet.
