Im not much into the ev training, ok i am, but i dont know the ev distrapution (except for my tropius). So pickin my starter based on how the stats are is not my primary picking method. I tend not to be very picky. I also dont pick them on how good theyd be in a one on one just because:

A-ive got no one to battle
B-my Wifi hates me.

I generally just pick the fire starter then get the other 2 whenever I can.

Well, I pick starter based on appearance of their basic evolution stage the first time, then pick the other 2 starters based on appearance of their basic evolution stages & then after that I always pick the starter that I end up having the best experience with but also think is the cooler or better looking 1 via their final evolution stage...I care about their base stats(not EV training) but I don't really worry about that either as I don't battle other human opponents or find it an enjoyable thing...

This Gen I will pick them in this order;
1. Tsutaaja
2. Mijumaru
3. Pokabu (might not even do this though I did pick Treecko so...)
4. Tsutaaja or Tsutaaja & Mijumaru (this is just a prediction as I haven't experienced any of them yet so...)

Since it's kinda where the conversation's going, I'll add my two cents.

The way I ALWAYS pick starters (since GSC) is to pick one per version and stick with that one for all my playthroughs of that game.
And I always pick my favorite for the third version because it's usually the most fun playthrough of the three and I want to enjoy it as much as possible.
Example: Diamond I chose Turtwig, Pearl was Chimchar, and Platinum was Piplup.

Going by this formula, I have a feeling it's gonna be something like this:
Black with Pokabu, White with Tsutaaja/Mijumaru and Grey(?) with Mijumaru/Tsutaaja.

This looks reliable. Of corse, i can't do it, because money doesn't grow on trees(at least, I don't think it does any way...Please say money doesn't grow on trees. If it does, i've been missing out and no one ever told)
And i say that you go for Mijumaru in Gray(?)

I'm taking snivy anyday, it has the ability of perversity which reverses stat changes, so if I teach it leaf storm, its special attack goes up two stages every time I use leaf storm. Coupling that with snivys speed and you have a very vicious sweeper

Was talking about that Perversity ability & how hard it is to stop in another thread, guess they just decided to go even further with the whole "double-edge sword" with the 5th Gen as this isn't the only thing 5th Gen produced that is notably difficult to stop if even possible...

It can be a double edge sword, if lets say some one uses flatter? or maybe skill swap? What happens if you get the mummy ability? How about punishment? Yeah, perversity is a good ability, but people will find a way to turn your advantage into a real bad disadvantage.

Umm, guys, you missed completely what I meant...

"this isn't the only thing 5th Gen produced that is notably difficult to stop if even possible..."

That part of my statement should of told you what I meant, which was that there are "alot more" things that are easier to abuse but hard to combat against in the 5th Gen as oppose to 4th Gen & back, especially if you add what in 4th Gen was hard to combat but very easy to abuse as well...

Yeah, these single type things are stupid. Along with the fact that we have our 4,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 fire/fighting starter (ok, our 5th and 6th, but it's still annoying).
