I started off with Mudkip.
I don't Know any one who started with Treecko?

I called it Blazey

I started with  . I love fire types... ^_^ Also, it's so cute! I couldn't resist!
Most people might of started of with  or  because they'd be strong against the first gymleader, Roxanne.
My torchic was a girl, so I name it... Cuddles. Isn't cute? Lol!

Treecko all the way. I nicknamed it Treecko. I'm not much into nicknaming pokemon either.

I always start with the fire type. I like the "challenge" of it, lol. This time, I actually did nickname my pokes for some reason... .hack/[type] for all of them, XD. .hack/fire, .hack/norm, etc. Normally, I don't use nicks though.

I always start out with the fire type since its an added challenge (not really lol)
I always nickname my starter Blaze. Not too creative, but I like it. For some reason on my Silver version I gave a nickname to every Pokemon that I caught. On the other versions I just give nicknames to the Pokemon on my team.

I don't have R/S. But when I get Emerald, I think I'll choose Treecko. But I don't know what to name it yet.

For the sake of getting  later in the game, I chose . The first few gym leaders were a challenge, but once it finally reached Lvl.36 it became all worth it(Literally,  was not a good Pokemon...)

I started the game with Treeko, he my favorite starter pokemon.
Edit: favorite out of Ruby/Sapphire of course not from all the games....that would be  Bulbasaur
