Something interesting happened the other day. My game level went up not by one, but to the maximum of 8, after I beat level 5. Perhaps you get rewarded with a jump to the top level if you achieve a five-game winning streak, because I got past the first five levels without hitting a Voltorb once. Since it's only happened to me once, though, I'm not entirely sure. (Maybe I was just lucky?)

I made another discovery by playing some more. It turns out level 8 is a bonus level.
You have to win five games in a row to reach level 8. Usually the top level is 7.
(The element of luck makes a five-game winning streak extremely difficult.)

I reached level 8 again today. I uncovered most of the number cards before hitting a stupid Voltorb, and I worked out that had I uncovered all the 2s and 3s, my reward would have been 2,916 Coins!!!
{voltorb} Oh my god, that's a lot of coins! Curse that silly Voltorb...

(Sorry for the double post, but these words seem to require a separate message.)

I hope that my guide helps. If you found it useful, or you think there's anything more to add, please post a message here. :D Thanks!

UPDATE: I have edited the first post to include all the extra information that I've learned from playing.
(I've also edited my other messages to avoid redundancy, just for the sake of it.)

I love voltorb flip but then again being good at chance calculations makes me pretty good at this game. Got to level 8 once but didn't make it. Had a 11-1 row crossing a 9-1 row so the chances were highly in my favor to pick that spot but it was a torb. Level 7 earned me 1126 coins.

A tactic I use on higher levels when there are verry low odds of success of getting a 2 or 3 while I have not reached my minumum cards flipped (to prevent from losing levels when I hit a torb) is to just go for easy 1's. When two 4-1's cross there is a good chance it'll be a 1. This has saved me a lot of times.

Double Post I know but I just beat level 8!

Earned me a whopping 2916 coins which is I think about the highest you can get. Such a rewarding sound to just put down the DS and grab a drink and to hear the coins still being added to your total when you return. (I know you can skip the counting.)

Also as expected it won't go any further after level 8 so no level 9 for me.

That's amazing Silith & DarkAriados...I really need to get back to playing Soul Silver just to see how I will do this time around...even if I still have a feeling that this game will still suck every bit of my patience out of me like a really late delivery for an online purchase...meh...

When you brought coins in previous games you paid 1000 for 50 coins.

Right now thanks to a few hours of Voltorb Flip I have over 400000 coins. That would've costed 8000000 money. Now it costed me 0 and a new addiction. How can I not love it?

Well done on passing level 8, Silith! :D That's great to hear, because I haven't yet managed to do it.

Sometimes, when I'm nervous about the odds, I do resort to flipping cards that are almost certainly 1 cards. Doing this on later levels poses an enormous problem, though, because on levels 5 to 7 there are hardly any 1 cards. I passed level 7 once and found, when all the cards were flipped over, that there were only two 1 cards on the whole board!

More useful, I find in later levels, is knowing where to look for 3s. Suppose I've got a row with a number total of 5 and 3 Voltorb - it's certain that that row contains a 2 card and a 3 card, and everything else is a bomb. I hate lines of 5-3, for precisely that reason. You never know where the 2 is going to be. But 3s are easier to find, so I don't mind the 6-3 lines so much. Once you've found everything but the last 2 card in a line that intersects a 6-3 line, you know that the card where the two lines cross has got to be a bomb.

What I hate most of all is finding that there are no 3s on the board. That really winds me up - so much so that sometimes I quit as soon as I've flipped enough cards to avoid losing any levels. This allows me to start the level over again (and collect a very small number of Coins in doing so), and hopefully there will be some 3s when the level reloads.

Level 8 seems to be rediculously easy.

Last time I had 2 0-5 lines crossing a few X-2 lines. Easy coin.

Lucky you... I've only made it to level 8 twice, and lost both times.

I may have skills in logic, but I'm still prone to that simple failing - human error.
Bad luck plays a role, too. The first time I reached level 8, I started by flipping the card in the row and column with the lowest number of Voltorb and the highest number totals - and guess what it was...

Apparently the game gets harder if you've collected more Coins, so I spend them instead.

I just want to beat level 8!! ... Just once!

This game is addictive. It's annoying having to use trial and error though. My current record is Level 5.

It is cheapest to get the TMs in RSE, as only 4000 coins are required (whereas you need 10000 in DPP).

85% of the games have a surewin combo.

Once you reach level 8 it's hard to go below again unless you purposedly walk into torbs.

Almost 1 Million coins now.

Aww, lucky you. I'm determined, but I haven't been able to pass level 7.

I've made it to level eight, but what always gets me is where there are four cards left and two of them are voltorbs. I know if I can get one I can get the other one, but it's still a tossup.

In that situation stay calm. Count if a line needs a 3 or a 2. If It's a 3 and a 2 it's easy game. If there are 2 2's or 2 3's it's 50-50. but since thre are only 4 cards left you should have enough cards opened to prevent you from leveling down if you hit the torb.

999,999.

Post subject:  Re: Guide to the Voltorb Flip game

I understand that with the threes and twos, but when they're both the same it's still a tossup. And I never want to give up all those coins I earned! Argh. Oh and I just broke ten thousand coins. I think I'll blow it all on ONE tm.

That's what got me when I reached level 8 for the second time. I knew that the number cards were going to be arranged in one of two ways - and given the clues, the odds were 50-50. It was almost certain that the other cards were bombs. I took my guess and flipped one of the cards. But it was a Voltorb...

Those "four-cards-two-bombs" situations... I hate them so much. I'm always astonished and delighted when I'm on a high level and I guess correctly, because I'm far less likely to hit a 1 card if I'm wrong.
I do sometimes make stupid mistakes, of course, but not nearly as often as I fall victim to bad luck. In some cases, you simply can't know what's behind a card until you take a guess and turn it over...

I know Silith says that 85% of the games are sure wins unless you make a silly mistake, but that still leaves 15% of games that you're going to lose due to a wrong guess.

I'm sorry, there's only one thing I don't understand.
How do you make coins? From flipping over all cards that aren't {voltorb} ?

*Edit
Um, wow, nevermind.
Reread the guide, and it was right there...

I brought 99 Tbolts so i could go on collecting coins.

Post subject:  Re: Guide to the Voltorb Flip game

I haven't earned anywhere near a million Coins - more like 100,000. I bought some TMs, one of each hold item and three Eevee to whittle down my Coin collection.

I use logic as much as I can, but don't have the world's best accuracy when it comes to the guesswork. I get lucky half the time, but still hit a Voltorb the other half of the time.

Even when I carefully work out where I should guess according to where a Voltorb is least likely to be, I still have to get lucky in order to guess right, or (especially) to get it wrong and only hit a 1 card.

This is the situation when I play the game...just factoring in less luck is all...heh, I'm going to play this right now following this post...
