Only being Rock has its advantages! If Sudowoodo wasn't so dead-slow it would be ridiculous.
And Fire types?
I can see this as being a good thing, but think of all the stuff that can learn Fire-type moves.
If a Pokemon is a Fire-type, itself, it's usually restricted to ONLY learning Fire and maybe a few other generic and not-so-useful types of attacks when used together.
Not to mention, ALL the current Fire-types (with a couple exceptions) basically learn the same attacks.
I definitely want more Fire-types, but only if the new Pokemon have access to better moves.

Fighting and Ghost types could do with some more, in my opinion.
Both of which for the dual-type possibilities, as there are plenty Pure-typers in each, but not too many combinations have been expolored in either.
Tons of fun possibilities.

In terms of numbers, Ghost has fewer Pokemon than all of those types except Dragon, which it ties. If we go strictly by National Dex numbers, Ghost has the fewest Pokemon of all types. While I'm at it, here's a list:
1. Water: 92 Pokemon
2. Normal: 80 Pokemon
3. Flying: 65 Pokemon (64 by National Dex)
4. Grass: 56 Pokemon (55 by National Dex)
5. Psychic: 56 Pokemon (53 by National Dex)
6. Poison: 50 Pokemon
7. Ground: 48 Pokemon
8. Bug: 47 Pokemon (45 by National Dex)
9. Rock: 37 Pokemon
10. Fire: 33 Pokemon
11. Electric: 29 Pokemon (28 by National Dex)
12. Steel: 26 Pokemon
13. Fighting: 25 Pokemon
14. Dark: 23 Pokemon
15. Ice: 22 Pokemon
16. Dragon: 20 Pokemon (19 by National Dex)
17. Ghost: 20 Pokemon (18 by National Dex)
The alternate forms of Wormadam, Deoxys, Shaymin and Giratina were counted separately. I only counted the Rotom Appliances as one new entity because the only differences between the five are aesthetic other than ONE exclusive move. If we factor in Zoroark and Zorua, Dark moves up to tie Fighting with 25 Pokemon.

I'm probably gliding past something obvious but Frost...why are some of the types stated as having 1 less pokemon by means of National Dex?...It's confusing me...

...& this I agree with much...

Hope this answers your question, Lawence. As for me, I would love to see Gamefreak finally give us all the possible type combinations (Normal/Water last gen...) even the ridiculous ones (Fire/Grass anyone?). That's one of the first things on my "list" of what they could fix make better about Pokemon for me...
IMO, Bug needs to be better, just overall especially in balance. I mean, it takes out what was for a long time one of the most powerful types in the game (and Psychic is still awfully popular), but do you see anyone using Scizor on competitive teams? [comparable to a baseball role-player, and I don't mean to offend those who use Bugs with great success...]
Dark/Psychic is one of the hybrids that I will be very angry if I don't see it soon... Electric/Poison (don't ask me why, I'm not sure myself) is another of those for me...

I use bugs quite a bit, and I find the few good ones there are to be VERY good.
But there need to be more.
I religiously include a Bug in all of my teams, and I'm tired of choosing between Scizor, Pinsir, Vespiquen, Forretress, Yanmega, Shedinja, Shuckle and Heracross.
I know that list seems small, but compare it to:
A. the number of, say, Water-types who can hold their own
or
B. the number of PIECE OF CRAP bugs

I think pure Dark needs a couple more, there's only so long that you can ride on Mightyena and Umbreon...
@AEPMT, yes, Electric/Poison would be kickass, as would Poison/Ice...just think they'd make it look cool
Water's just going to keep on coming along, because it's just so easy to make more, but GF will start to seriously piss people off if they keep on adding them in.
And does anybody else also think that Steel/Dark would work out awesome?

Holy immunities and resistances, Batman!
But boy would Fighting-types destroy it... Meh. I suppose that's a fair trade.

Not even close...no, seriously, I mean so the non National Dex count was including the alternate forms & on & on?...uh, ok, got it I guess...meh...
Some other type combinations I would like to see 5th Gen are Electric/Grass, Bug/Fire, Fire/Water, Psychic/Electric, Fire/Ice (maybe...) & Poison/Dragon...etc...

A Fire/Ice Pokemon would be cool, but kinda difficult to make. It would also be interesting in competitive battle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are there any non-legendaries that can learn Fire and Ice attacks? Aside from the elemental punches, I mean.

Darn near every Normal-type can learn Flamethrower and Ice Beam (and Thunderbolt),
but yeah, I agree. Fire/Ice would be nifty!
As far as making it work:
A. It doesn't need to make total sense because these games are still fictional.
Starmie, Smeargle, Blaziken, Ludicolo.
They've played the artistic license card a few different times.
B. Maybe it could be an elemental ancient or something?

I think Rock/Ice would be cool. it would get owned by fighting but it could have that traditionally high defence rock pokemon have. the Rock/Ice pokemon could be a frozen rock? Or it could be one of Gen V.'s fossil pokemon, like a fossil frozen in ice? im just spitting out soem ideas. maybe a frozen rock would be boring but that is all i got.

An elemental ancient... I like it! I'd definitely use one on my team.

Elemental ancient. YOU MEAN LIKE THE REGIS? -___-
But rock/ice would work, I suppose.

Haha, k so I guess ancient stuff was already used for a lot of Gen III,
but I was thinking more along the lines of ... hm, I don't know how to put this in words.
Has anyone ever played Final Fantasy X?
This was a "black" elemental, but they had them for each of the elements of Black Magic you encountered.
Ha...idk.

So thinking about the Elemental has gotten me thinking about new Pokemon.
I want there to be spiritual representation Pokemon of the four major Elements.
Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
Ground-, Flying- ... Fire- and Water-type lol.
Maybe they could be a set of Legends?
Or, maybe not, since there are about 18 Legends too many lol.
But each of these types actually wouldn't be half bad if they're alone, with not sub-types.
And it would mark the first official pure Flying-type.

Well some types that really are lacking in good team work and variety are Poison,Bug,Dragon,Steel,Ghost and electric IMO.
Battle wise, those types have few pokémon that can adapt to some roles...(specially in monotype torneys)
(like a Special-sweeping poison type[Ok, i know that there are Gengar, but say another good one...] or a physical-staller electric/dragon/bug for example)
I think that those need some backup.
And i'm still hoping for that Ghost/Steel type with levitate.
For legendaries... Probably the Ubers will be Light and Dark , considering the titles...
(God vs Satan!!! OMFG)
I don't believe they actually gonna make a "Good" type to be oposite of the "Evil" (in japanese versions the dark type is actually the "Evil" type)...

There is no Dark/Fighting, and you have an extra pure Psychic and lack four Fires (the Fire/Fighting ones), a Normal (pure) and a Grass (Breloom).
