First of all, I don't think that they're going to change it from grass, fire, and water in the next games. Secondly, why would dark's immunity matter? Did you use razor leaf against your rival's cyndaquil? Likewise, are you going to use psychic type moves against a dark type? Not if you have a choice! Besides, one reason dark wouldn't unbalance it is because dark is the equalizer of the pokemon world. It nerfs psychic and ghost, which although they are not the best types in the games, in a more complex game they would be the hardest to beat because you would never be able to hit them! However, dark pays a price for beating psychic and ghost, because it gets beaten by bug, one of the most plentiful types in the early parts of the games. Therefore, though dark could nerf anyone who chose psychic, the dark would get slaughtered in the first part of the game, especially if there was a bug or fighting gym leader early in the game. Unfortunately, I have just remembered that psychic gets nerfed by bug too. In that case, anyone who chose psychic would just have to live with their bad decision until the fighting type gym, where they would own, and the dark types would get nerfed by a machop. Justice is served.

About this...I used Razor Leaf to beat my Rival's Cyndaquil...no but seriously, I see your point...just that they wouldn't go so far as to add an type combination that would cause an immunity of one type to another...& no Dark is not an Equalizer in no sense of the Type...they can only add either Dark or Psychic via the same Generation of pokemon starters so...while what you say makes sense, the Gyms have no factor in the 2nd Typing or it wouldn't be so unbalance with one starter being able to beat most of the Gyms of their Gen & another having to not be so able to...kind of like in the 3rd Gen...kind of...wouldn't mind though if they did cause the Dark Type isn't hard to overcome per say anyway...

Honestly, this happens in every generation with the basic FWG starters.

you have a point about the not so intuitve as fire water and grass, i just would like to ssee some difference somewhere, its always the same three. even if it was something almost as intuitve like lightning, rock or ground, and water, just SOMETHING different. the only two differences i have seen is pikachu in yellow and the eevee in XD.

I think they should do a different one.

I remember a long time ago people saying psychic dark ghost would be balanced but dark has that psychic immunity so nah...Maybe if they could find another three where one is both weak to and strong against exactly one other then it would be awesome. But i don't think there are any.

They should make the starters Unown. XD

I hope they don't deviate from the Grass/Fire/Water. It has been tradition. There are some things you can't just change. Besides, nintendo has the secondary status to tweak so we should be fine by that.

But they still need to make grass cooler and better! Not just the starter, mind you.

Post subject:  Re: Gen. V starters.

how about the second types be ghost, ghost pokemon, like dragon, can super effectively kill each other, and also, for the record, i know this will be stupid, but for my own personal reasons the water starter should be a lizard, because even though i love totodile( and it pwns due to its versitility and defense stats) it doesnt complete my lizard starter trio (also, they should have a fire turtle to balance things out too)

Found this as well; didn't see it anywhere else here...

I'm going to make a wide guess that these are the starters (look at the colors). The water type looks to be a dolphin. :>

Seems a bit unfair for the Dolphin and the Snake seeings how the obvious grasstype has legs...

Dude, if that picture were real, I would die of happiness. Unfortunately, Pokemon Sunday hasn't revealed anything about the starters yet so it's probably fake. However, if I wish it were real because...

...dolphin starter? GTFO!

(Also I love you Joey but we have a topic for the starters already, so I'm going to go ahead and merge it.)

Bah, legs are overrated. :)

I hope the dolphin stays cute for its whole evolution line... I don't want it to be an angry dolphin. :( Of course, it very well could be a shark, but I doubt it since we have Sharpedo already.

I hope it's true too, Frost.

Edit: Oh, ha, how sillly of me to overlook this thread. Thanks for merging it Frost. :>

The idea of a fire snake sits well with my fire starter collection. Unlike Torchick which for the life of me I will never own due to it's digimon wannabe evolution...

That's just what they want you to think. The leaf-like thing on the back of the top-left starter is obviously a group of fins, those things that look like fins on the top-right starter are definitely blades of fire, and that torch-like silhouette on the back of the bottom starter is obviously a flower in bloom. The background colors are just supposed to thrown you off. Remember, the round pokeomn shadow is actually a jigglypuff as seen from above :D

A fire snake, which I guess will become a salamander/dragon, while the water dolphin will turn into a shark or something else.
As for the grass stag, I say it will evolve into a large one and they will name it Malorne.

I just hope the first two forms of the Starters have pickup, or some similar outside-the-game useful ability, and their final form has an in game ability that matters (like Water Absorb).

As if anyone has EVER recognized when torrent did jack sh^$

i agree with every who says it that they wont deviate now from the WGF primary typing. how ever the secondary typing of dragon does sound cool. when looking at the photo posted by Registeel_Rocks the tail of the snake and the blade on the back of the stag could easily be interchangeable. how ever i think it is very sneaky that snake and stag since both these are woodland creatures.

also i agree with Frost a dolphin pokemon awesome even though there has already been one (gorebiss) this one looks much better

I'd rather have a Crab starter, or Lobster, or even a salamander or frog.

No dolphin starter=chicken of the sea

And snakes freak me out so assuming these are the starters I would go with the leaf deer thingy. Even if it does seem to be wearing a tutu.
