Charmander is probably the best starter.
The reason i say this is because they have made the game now so that you can pick charmander and still do extremely well against the first trainers
for example.
Rt. 2 you can get a mankey!
when you goto visit Bill at cerulean you can get bellsprout whom ROCKS in the special attack dept.
and honestly after that its all downhill from there... i mean those two pokes can take out the whole gym without even having to get up from their chairs or put down their fruity drink with the lil umbrella...
not to mention you get abra at same time as Bellsprout which can quickly become your most powerful pokemon PERIOD!
is flippin awesome is why
well i think i have ranted enough

because it may look dodgy at the beginning of the game...but Charizard is wicked. It can learn alot of powerful attacks

Yeah, that's why a LV 32 Geodude almost OHKO'ed my LV 82 Charizard using Rock Blast; all 5 times of course. Then again, every rose has its thorns...

I chose Bulbasaur just becuase of its type. There are two extremes to the way you treat your starter.
Extreme: Train it till it's friggin' strong and thrash all competition with it.
The other extreme: Don't touch it at all once you've caught a few wild pokemon.
I usually lean towards the second.

thats why you do this really neat thing... you switch it out for something else lol
although why a 32 geodude was still standing i dont know. i mean no offense but my 70 charizard could drop a lvl 40 or 45 geodude in one hit.... but i dont konw... thats so odd... did you miss?

I was training another Pokemon in Victory Road, and when you switch, your opponent gets one free move.

As for starters I always get all three but like I think someone berfore me said it depends on lots of different things.
Also did you Know that choosing your starter depends on the diffuculty of your game?
- easy
- normal
- HARD

With mankey and butterfree both readily avaliable before brock, and a convenient stash of pikachus to catch in the forest while you're training your metapod, it's easy to cover Charmander's weakness against the first two gyms, and he's invaluable later on. Charizard is a very useful pokemon, and that flying type is an excellent defence against the ever present earthquake.
From what I've seen, Squirtle's another useful choice. I don't think there's any other way to get a water-type move on your team before getting Surf or a good rod, and just about every path/dungeon/trail/cave/mountain you have to go through has piles of rock- and ground-type pokemon. Plus, Blastoise is a standard sp. Tank, and he learns some pretty awesome moves.
The poison side of Bulbasaur is a bit of a turn-off for me- Toxic is the only poison move I'd use, and it doesn't get anything from STAB, so I think I'd prefer a pure grass-type, or something with a secondary type to cover its weakness to fire.

i would choose because you can get a very early in the game, one problem is that you might have to search for a for ages because you wont have a weakness for misty's pokemon. would be good towards erikas pokemon because there aren't very many (if any) chances to get a weakness for erika's pokemon. i always choose well, sometimes for a bit of a challenge...

I already said in the Entei post(locked), don't choose Bulba because Entei absolutely stinks.
Don't neglect your other pokemon. Use the other extreme.

About the difficulyt of the game, thats only because bulba has the most gym advantages and charmander has the least, but remember, that smart guy in silver said, "I don't use the same strong pokemon as everyone else, I battle with my fvorites" or something very similar.

well,a bit of it has to do with the game...in R/B If you just started playing pokemon, stick with squirtle or bulbasaur. In G/S/C,none of the starters were any bad and your rival was far too weak(my feraligatr could beat his weakling lv 42 meganium or whatever)In Ru/Sa Torchic was the popular coice, exept more weaknesses than charizard(I think) psychic, water,(I think rock/ground),flying...LG/FR you could go through brock with metal claw easily and then catch oddish/bellsprout to kick out misty.I always stick with the Char family in R/B/FR/LG,totodile family in G/S/C and normally treecko/torchic families(I don't like swampert because 4x weak to grass and I pwn them with the ultimate on netbattle)
If you're new to pokemon go with Bulbasaur/cyndaquil/torchic families
If you're pretty good at pokemon(EV train,breed for better moves+DV's,etc)Pick Charmander/Chikorita/Treecko(mudkip?) families.
But,every weakness can be countered,so its sort of your choice.
Thanks for reading.

Yes,thats what he said, but not "fvorites". He spelt it Teh right way!*ponders on how to spell favorites* XD.
Oh yes my favorite is char(family) 100,000,000,000,000% XP!

Bulbasaur, I consider to be the best. He does have the most Gym type advantages. While the Poison side of Bulba may be a turn off, think of what would happen if he didn't have that side to turn off the Toxics that Koga would try to use against him, and stop him from being weak to Koga's whole damn gym?
Against the elite four, once again Bulba seems to have its great uses. Loreli may use ice types, but what about some of those ice types that are weak against grass? By that stage, Venasuar should be enough levels to do some one hit KOs and get through to take out Bruno's Onix's.
Bulba's use is everlasting. He is the best choice.

Actually I think it's Karen.
Anyway I always choose Charmander (Charizard is my fav out of the starters) and I always catch a Pikachu (Take a guess).
Brock is easy as long as Char knows Metal Claw (FRLG).

I went from the Olivine Lighthouse to just south of Violet (without fly) in my sister's forbidden Silver to quote him. Here it is:

In my opinion, the best starter is and I chose it as my starter.
At some point of time, I regretted chosing but still continued the game.
Now, I am satisfied with my choice; that's because I caught the fire type pokemon, and it helped me a lot in battling my rival later on; now I have a powerful fire type pokemon and a powerful grass type pokemon.
One thing to note is you can't catch a very powerful grass pokemon later on in the game, so consider choosing .

I chose Bulbasaur as my starter in LeafGreen just because in my original Red I chose him to be my first pokemon companion. I felt like I needed to reconnect with him. I think Blastoise is the best and most useful starter.

I like Bulbasaur, mostly because of Koga and bikers/rockets have poison types. It's incredibly annoying when they land a hit. Besides, I think Sleep Power is a good catching/as well as battling move.

is probably the best because i have a and it has excellent stats all round, so is probably the best, even though it's not very good on the first couple on gyms.
