When I recently bought FireRed again, my friend and I got to talking. The first time I played FireRed I didn't know about the legendary dog so I used my masterball on mewtwo. But which is a better choice? He says something about Mewtwo needing 120 Ultra Balls if you dont use the masterball. Is this true? Or more likely, is my friend an idiot?
So should I use my masterball on Mewtwo or Suicune?

Your friend is an idiot. It would be best to use the master ball on suicune since its the best legendary dog and it gets very annoying chasing it around evrywhere. As for 120 ultra balls on mewtwo, thats just bull. Get a pokemon that can put it to sleep or paralyze and then get him down to red hp, after that he should be caught in just few(usually less than 15) ultra balls.

I thought as much, thanks Charizard. :)
I'll be sure to give my bud a good smack to the back of the head.

I would recommend using it on the Legendary Dog. Especially if you chose either bulbasaur or squirtle as your starter. Entei and Rakiou will know Roar and if they use that move on your first encounter theres a glitch that will delete the dog from your game pak. That's what happened to me so I had to get my dogs from Colesseum. And to catch Mewtwo just use a Dark type and his Psychic won't hurt your Pokemon.

You could go either way...Suicune won't use Roar, so you can chase it down. (I did so, it's not impossible.) Mewtwo, as lvl70 legend, can be annoyingly difficult to catch, but bring Ultra and Timer Balls and you can catch it.

However, with Mewtwo you can reset to get a better nature/IVs, and that works a lot better with the Master Ball. With Suicune, you can reset as well...but then you have to find it again...

I would use it on the dogs I used it on Mewtwo only because I wasn't going to catch the dogs.

I managed to catch Mewtwo with M.ball and all 3 dogs with ultra balls,Put it to sleep+Paralyze+Frz(I forgot if it was frozen or burned)

And used the Ultra balls (Used between 20-40 total)....Yeah....

Make any ball work like a M.ball..

When you throw the ball at a pokemon, the minute it closes,Hold A+B At the same time,it'll be stronger..I caught all Legendaries and Regidaries with this...

And it works first time you try? things like that are myths - the game's code has been decoded...
