Or, you can take a logical look at all this and do a process of elimination.
To start, observe the Gyms from Versions Blue to Crystal.
Rock
Water
Electric
Grass
Psychic
Poison
Fire
Ground
Flying
Bug
Normal
Ghost
Fighting
Steel
Ice
Dragon
Notice - NO REPETITION. They used all but one of the seventeen types. Coincidence? I think not.
Now, look to RSE's Gyms.
Rock
Fighting
Electric
Fire
Normal
Flying
Psychic
Water
Judging from the first two generations, I assume that the gyms of Hoenn are made to compliment the Gyms in D/P, the following types are available...
Grass
Poison
Ground
Bug
Ghost
Steel
Ice
Dragon
Dark
I'm aware that there are nine types, but I'm gonna guess that they'll drop Dragon and go for a Dark Gym, because those are the two most elusive types in the games and a Dragon Gym has been previously presented.
Here's the order I think is logical and imaginitve and challenging, but based on nothing in particular.
Poison
Ground
Grass
Ghost
Steel
Ice
Bug
Dark

The Elite 4 should be underdog types. (normal, bug, grass, flying/poison)
The champion should have at least one of each type of underdog types, and then 2 power houses. (normal, grass, bug, flying, poison, psychic)
the gyms should be different:
Gym 1: Fire, water, grass, (which ever 1 is stronger against your starter)
gym 2: ground
gym 3: fire, water, grass (which ever 1 is neutral against your starter)
gym 4: ice
gym 5: fire, water, grass (which ever 1 your starter is stronger against)
gym 6: steel
gym 7: rock (this type is under-rated)
gym 8: dark (power house dark types)

They should make more water and ice pokemon!
I think the gyms should go in this order:
1. Psychic
2. Ghost
3. Fighting
4. Bug
5. Ice
6. Poison
7. Dark
8. Water
I think the Elite Four should go in this order:
1. Flying
2. Fire
3. Electric
4. Normal
I think the Champion should have:
1. Water/Ice (yes because I love them!)
Your final Rival battle should be varied types, of course!

Giovanni's gym is the ground gym, but anyway:
1. Grass (water starter); Fire (grass starter); Water (fire starter)
2. Lightning
3. Bug, Flying
4. Grass (grass starter); Fire (fire starter); Water (water starter)
5. Normal, items (like Norman's gym)
6. Ghost, Poison
7. Rock, Ground
8. Grass (fire starter); Fire (water starter); Water (grass starter)
Elite Four
1. Psychic, Dark
2. Fighting
3. Ice, Dragon
4. Steel
Champion
Rival (well balenced team)
i think the first gym and the last gym should switch, because th final gym should be hard on the starter, and the first should be easy. but... i see your logic in how you odered them.

Having a wekness first gym is better then having it last. By the time you get to the last gym, you will have a team, a team that will most likely cover your starter's weakness. In the beginning, you wont have as much of a well-balabced team as the end. So its a good beginning gym, to start you off in the right direction

You see. if you have the weakness gym, you can use those normal attacks, but you will get destroyed. this will make you catch pokemon, or make your starter strong enough to handle some strong moves. get it? thats why i think it should be first.

I see. But what type and move set do you propose will be effective against all three starting types. The best I can think of is a Starmie that knows Surf, Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam, which will be good against Fire, Water, and Grass, respectively. But that seems a little too powerful for the first gym.

I think there should be a new region, with all the old ones combined, new pokemon with all the old ones, and I really don't care if there are new characters that you play. I just want the regions combined! I think a light type Pokemon sounds cool and so does a Pokemon game Water Blue Maybe it's just me! ^_^

I think that gyms and elites should not use one or two types only as i think it will be more challenging if the gym leaders using different types of pokemon

My ideas:
Gym 1: Water/Ice
Gym 2: Fire
Gym 3: Rock/Ground
Gym 4: Electric
Gym 5: Poison
Gym 6: Steel
Gym 7: Dragon
Gym 8: Fighting
Elite 1: Psychic
Elite 2: Ghost
Elite 3: Bug
Elite 4: Dark
Champion: Mixed, but mainly special attackers
I hope that if they make a third FR/LG version, it's called Sky Blue (wink)
*twiddles thumbs waiting for D/P to come out*
Oh yah, when they make the third D/P, my input for that is either Topaz or Amethyst.

I think Gym should no longer be one type only. It would be great it they'd do something like a "Mirror Gym" where the pokemon were Ditto, Smeargle, Sudowoodo, Porygon and Pidgeot (Transform, Sketch, Mimic, Conversion, Mirror Move).
Or the "hit-me-if-you-can" Gym where pokemon should use moves like Substitute, Fly, Bounce, Dive, Dig, Double Team, Minimize, etc.
Or the 'clerics' Gym with Miltank, Chimecho, Blissey and the like using Heal Bell, Aromatherapy, Softboiled, Recover, Milk Drink and Wish all the time.
And you should be able to fight them several times, just like in Emerald.

That's a pretty cool idea stellar. Although they should test gym like that by having them be side quests and not gym badge gyms.

Steel Elite four and Champion are cool ideas, but ice and especially dragon are way OU in the Elite four. I say bring in types that have never been in there before.
Steel, Normal, Fire, Grass, Ground, Rock (Bruno was fighting), Bug, Electric, and Flying are the types that need to show up in the Elite 4

We definetly need a dark gym. But other than that:
Gym 1: Whatever your starter is weak to (If you picked Grass, then it's fire, and so on coz i liked that idea)
Gym 2: Steel
Gym 3: Flying
Gym 4: Ice
Gym 5: Dragon
Gym 6: Dark
Gym 7: Normal
Gym 8: Electric
Then for the Elite 4:
Elite 1: Ghost
Elite 2: Poison
Elite 3: Bug
Elite 4: Fighting
Champion: Well balanced team, possibly with Sableye as it has no weakness
That's my idea's.

I agree that a dark type gym is fully, completely, intirely(spelling?) and 100% overdue and I have thought one's leader out completely:
Leader: Eric
Gym #: 8
Roster:
