Post subject:  G/S/C safari zone

I was randomly looking for stuff on the internet last night, and I came across gameshark codes for G/S. I tried the Safari Zone codes for lulz and it worked.

Basically, to get this code to work, you have to enter a building then turn the codes off. Just don't save in the Safari Zone because there is no way out. You can't even FLY out.

If you don't have a gameshark and are too lazy to download the ROM to see for yourself, you can look at my screenshots here. It's not all that interesting though. There are no wild pokemon except Corsola, Krabby, and Kingler. [Other pokemon might appear with the Old/Good Rods, but I'm too lazy to go back and get those.] Also the grass near the south of the screen is like a wall so it won't let you through...I tried a code to walkthrough walls and the game just freaked out and crashed on me.

Any ideas on what might have been included in the safari zone? I think Heracross, Aipom, Houndour, and some other rare G/S and R/B/Y pokemon may have been catchable. It's sad they removed the G/S safari zone, and I think I would have liked it more than National Park.

edit: and for more Silver lulz, look here

Indeed the National Park was a welcome addition, but the Safari Zone was exciting in its own way and I missed having one in GSC. Your find certainly was interesting; it seems they planned to have a Safari Zone in the game, and then they decided thereafter to abandon the idea, and yet left some of the coding in the game.

I suppose the Safari Zone would have contained rare RBY Pokemon, but few from Johto. After all, the trend continues in RSE, where rare Kanto and Johto Pokemon were abound in the Safari Zone, with few Hoenn Pokemon. Which rare RBY Pokemon? The same few, I suppose. For instance, everyone would have had the chance to throw rocks pitifully at Chansey and cry in anguish as it runs away again and again.

I'm still waiting for a worthwhile reply (excluding sN0wBaLL's post).

That's really cool! I wish they did decide to add in the Safari Zone, it was really fun... well, besides the fact that those stupid Chanseys keep running away...*remembers last time she tried to catch a Chansey*

Go, GREAT BALL!
Congradulations! ASH caught a CHANSEY!
Too Bad! The box is full.

That's pretty much what happened... god I hated that

I think the rare pokemon that were originally going to be in the Safari Zone would have pretty much been the same as the original Zone: Chansey, Kangaskhan, Tauros, Pinsir, etc, plus rare GSC pokes: Marill, Aipom, Heracross, etc. When they removed the Zone, they threw the pokemon around to other random places - Chansey being east of Fuchia, Kanga in Rock Tunnel, Aipom and Hera in the Headbutt trees, and so on.

As for why it got taken out, my only guess woild be that Game Freak got wind of the RBY Glitch City after the GSC Zone was created, and instead of preventing one or more of the key aspects to prevent Glitch City like they did in RSE (guy blocking the door, cant Save inside it, etc), they got lazy and pulled the entire thing.

I, for one, was very disappointed when I realized this had been done, for I was only a Chansey, Kangaskan, and Tauros short of the dex being completed in Yellow, and figured it would be easier in the gsc zone than the rby zone. Then I discovered the other locations for them -.-

I'm sorry, that this may sound stupid, but did you try teleport?

It would have been easy to remove the coding errors which would lead to glitches appearing while you are in the Safari Zone. For example, in Yellow, the infinite items trick and some other glitches involving the Safari Zone were already removed. As such, I don't think the presence of glitches is a valid reason behind Game Freak's decision to not have a Safari Zone.

Good find. If only they put it in the final version. *Remembers atempt to capture Tauros.

Is the RBY "Mew" truck still outside Vermillion City in GSC?
Just wondering because I tried to find it, but I don't have a GameShark. I hope Game Freak didn't take it out.

For some reason I'm so interested in that stupid truck. I'd say it's a pop culture reference just waiting to be worked into a Simpsons/Family Guy/Robot Chicken episode.

BUMP

I'm kinda disappointed this thread didn't get much feedback. I'm going to bump it again, because I want to try to spark some discussion about it without making a new thread.

Chansey, Scyther/Pinsir, Tauros, and Kangaskhan ( :censored: them) are what I think would've appeared with the Johto Pokemon listed above. Of course, this is GSC, so the difficulty probably would've been toned down a bit. I never could catch them in RBY!

Maybe also some of the GSC Pokemon from Emerald, like Sunkern. They might have even expanded the Safari Zone if they were putting it in. Maybe there'd have been Pokémon like Yanma and Girafarig, all those cute ones.

I agree with you about the RBY Safari. I always missed them when I threw my Pokéballs, but not the rocks. That doesn't really make sense.

I would say the listed rare Pokemon, from RBY and GSC. They could've possibly used it for a place to catch the starters, but I would've apposed that. I would assume they would've put alot of RBY pokemon that they didn't get into GSC anywhere else.

Post subject:  Re: G/S/C safari zone

I'm sticking to what I said in my previous post; probably Chansey, Taurus and the other Safari Zone Pokemon of RBY days. That would keep the flavour of the Safari Zone, and bring some connection to RBY. To add more familiarity, they could keep the same layout of the Safari Zone, but add some aesthetic changes to the existing zones such as park benches (like those in the National Park) and fountains. At the same time, new zones can be created to show how the Safari Zone has extended its premises since the RBY years. These new zones can then be used as new "habitats" for Pokemon previously unavailable in RBY's Safari Zone, such as Yanma, Heracross, and other rarer GSC Pokemon.

If they wanted to expand the Safari Zone in GSC, I would have loved to see three things go into it:

1) all of the Pokes there from RBY (because it was so much fun aside from the difficulty)
2) the rarer Pokes from GSC (like Aipom, Heracross, ones that didn't even appear until Kanto, the Swarm Pokes)
3) the in-game trade from RBY ones (Farfetch'd, Mr. Mime, Lickitung) that were rare otherwise (I'm not talking the Nidos or Tangela for Seel, etc.)

I would have endlessly gone there until I caught everything. (Remembers Tauros, Chansey, Kangaskhan...)

AEPMT :D :) 8-) :P
