Yeah, thanks man... FINALLY someone makes one of these...
I hate all of those "I got a shiny shellos!" threads...

Now all we need is someone to explain how you can't trade level 9 and under mews over the GTS (or any other non-legit ones...)

Well said, I just actually saw a post of someone talking about the "black" hippowdon. And I also agree that people should stop posting about the mews. If you really do not understand its for cloning which I believe is mentioned in the cloning thread then you are beyond help. I have probably seen 20 topics about mew and even more about the shinys, glad to see action has been taken.

Good work Frost, way to point the blind in the right direction.

Also the biggest give away for shinys you have is the red star and that its Dex number is red but this is common information.

this is all pretty funny. i know a few people who thought they had a shiny shellos. do you think it was a mean joke by nintendo?

actually, i have a shiny gastrodon (slightly lighter blue than usual) and a shiny female hippowdon. and yes they are shiny - they have the star and sparkles to prove it ;)

What really surprises me is that people believed that they where shiny. The basic thing is the shine that appears when they appear or called out. How could anyone miss that. For Hippopotas and Hippowdon, might say that it is a bit alright to mistake that, but... Shellos and Gastrodon, how could people confuse them like that, The East and West ones not just have different colors but have slightly different shapes. All shinies have the exact same shape but only different color.

if you had never seen a shiny before, i could see people easily making this mistake. you also might be absent mindedly walking around and miss the sparkle at the start of the encounter. it would especially trick someone if they saw the hippo's - in fact, i can hardly tell that my shiny hippowdon is shiny - i wish it was purple or something...

Yeah, it would be better if shiny Pokémon were more distinguishable. If their colour changes were more obvious or if they could glow/pulsate through the battle, it would be a lot better. I don't know why so many people get caught out by the west/east shellos thing, they're different shapes!! I didn't even notice I was fighting a Shellos when I found the east one, until I saw its name. Then I thought 'It looks different. Why?' Then I remebered a person told me that a Pokemon looks different on different sides of Mt. Coronet.

Well I have seen shinies before. Though I haven't officaly got one, I'm always on the look out if one comes by. I did say I would let the hippo on slide a bit, but not the Shellos and Gastrodon. The East and West ones can not be confuse with shinies no matter how much on says.

Seeing a different colored pokemon can surprise anyone into thinking its a shiny. (I thought it was shiny until I checked the Psydex)

People are especially stupid because it means that they :

dont talk to npc's, i think there are a few people who say to you that mt coronet split up sinnoh blah blah blah and seeing shellos makes me think its correct

and also

THEY DONT LOOK at the pokemon, I mean it isnt like u see a shiny but it doesnt shine

When I saw the East side Shellos, I just shrugged and escaped from it, because it should have been really obvious that shinys don't have different forms and even if someone hasn't even encountered one it's only common sense.

That is what I was saying. It is good that someone other than myself thinks like this. A shiny ALWAYS has the same form, but the difference in The Shellos and Gastordon is the form, so it should be EASY to tell which ones are shiny and which ones are not.

I caught a black hippowdon & thought it was shiny for a minute. Then I looked at the gender differences for D/P & noticed that it was only the female coloring.

I was going to say that the way to tell a shiny if you can't tell by color is by the sparkles around it. For example, I had no idea when I found a shiny silver/gold pokemon, until i saw the stars, cuz GB graphics really don't define that in color  anyway, I just don't see how you miss if it sparkled or not

I have a real shiny female Hippowdon. I know that because I saw the sparkles. She's legit too. In fact, I almost fainted when I came across her in that desert north of the Resort Area.

I had seen this thread before, and really couldn't believe it when ten hours into my first play of Pokemon Diamond, I came across a shiny Western Shellos. I can't tell the difference between a regular one and a shiny unless they're side by side, so I could only tell because of the little white stars. I successfully caught him - my first Jewels Generation shiny Pokemon. Yay! :D

Besides the little stars that appear when I send him out, the only way of telling that my Pokemon is shiny is by the mark that appears in the PC, a small red star next to Shellos's picture. The difference in colour between a shiny Shellos and a regular one is quite subtle, unlike the very apparent difference between the two natural forms. Same with the hippos. You may not be able to identify a real shiny except by the white stars.

I get frustrated when peole say they have a shiny shellos because it is blue. I try to explain to them that it isnt because for one there is no sparkle before. They dont listen untill they see I sshow them what my Dex says about it.

Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha. Darn. No, I knew this all along. I remember when I fought Bertha, though. I thought, "wow, an Elite Four member has a shiny Hippowdon!" I heard about this and I'm like, "Oh."
