yeah that moveset is most likely better, because you do have to conserve your PP because your facing the Elite 4...so probably close combat so it has better accuracy...but then again, your not doin a wifi battle...so maybe focus blast and really no one in the elite four have a fighting type weakness...just steelix, where you can do flamethrower...and lopunny which isnt really a threat at all lol

Infernape varies.
The most common is mixed sweeper, suicidal version:

Infernape @Life Orb
~Nasty Plot
~Flamethrower/Fire Blast
~Grass Knot/HP Ice
~Close Combat

Time is health, so flamethrower is preffered.
Grass Knot helps with Rhyperior and Swampert, mainly. Though, if you have good IVS, you ohko suicune, slowbro, and milotic.
But HP Ice is cool for Dragons.


Couple other nice sets:
"Dancer"
Infernape @Expert Belt
~Swords Dance
~Thunderpunch/Stone Edge
~Flare Blitz
~Close Combat

Basically, 2 STABs and something for birds. T-punch for consistency and non-bold waters. Stone Edge for humungous power, and an edge on other fire types "lol". Also deals with Sala Much better. Not to mention gyara.

Jolly is for sure. You certainly have enough attacking power without the nature boost.

Note: Some people like the idea of blaze kick for no recoil, and the possibility of 170 damage with a critical. But the thing is - he's going to die anyway, go out with a guaranteed bang.

3.) Go with Nasty Plot + Flamethrower @Expert Belt / Life Orb

ZOMG, this is uber with base 76 hp and base 71 in t3h defense stats :O </sarcasm>

lol i really like that staller one....that's a pretty smart idea...unfortunately he cant use this moveset because he hasnt beat the E4 and cant get the TM Will o wisp from the battle tower nor can slack off....not unless he wants to start over...sadly :( he cant learn any of these moves not unless he starts over on the infernape lol or beats the E4...but to Galar take peanut-lover's moveset into consideration after you beat them...seriously they are all good

Surprisingly, these are all of the good special moves for Lucario. Psychic is bad on him, lets not even go there. Flash Cannon is nothing to write home about, so don't waste the tm. Vacuum Wave will do nice on Weavile and Reversal-cross. In fact, vacuum wave is a filler - use both dragon pulse and hp ice...

Now, as for the shadow ball vs Dark pulse, its a question of heracross counter, and do you need one. Keep in mind - shadow ball fails to hit the normals that you might want.
As for Dragon Pulse vs. HP Ice, its quite a competition - Dragon Pulse is its strongest move against spiritomb, while hp ice is nice vs. grasses and dragons. Flyers as well. Heck, use both, and get rid of vacuum wave.

Now for the long list of physicals:

Max attack (+Atk nature, 31 IVs, 252 EVs) ohkos hera with blaze kick. Extremespeed gets in on reversalers.

Okay, to say this is a sweeper is almost an understatement. After the salac boost with a perect IV full speed evs and a non-beneficial nature, you outspeed jolteon and aero - near top speed in the metagame.

Now, Rock Slide is there instead of stone edge for accuracy - thats it. Okay, maybe a bit of flinching :D Crunch has its benefits, though - KOs a weakened dusknoir.

A different version of above, the next set would be typed except I'm lazy.
Basically, Leftovers for an item, spread the EVs to Defenses a bit more than the pinchy sweeper, switch out sub for extremespeed. This now survives a lot more. You can now afford the increased power of Stone edge.


Reversaler
Lucario @Salac Berry
~Substitute
~Swords Dance
~Reversal
~Crunch

Basically, it looks like hera - swords dance is available, STAB is available. but other than that, it plays differently. It is superior in that it can take on t-tar (lol to sandstorm), is faster (5 base), and isn't 4x weak to flying.
Substitute sets are screwed by stealth rock unless you play the cards right - if you immediately set up subs after stealth rock, forget about it. Lowest you get is like 21% - screwing you out of powe. If SR is up with a sub set, take some damage, then sub down.

Now, the movepool aside from these moves suck - trust me. A couple of things that look good, but really aren't:
Criticario - Cross Chop and Stone Edge. Maybe ummm...shadow claw. Works better with machamp.
Bullet punch - in case you fear fast rock types - oxymoron, no? Well, Aero is fast.
Stat Upping - the defense boosts from calm mind and bulk up aren't worth the switched out power of swords dance and the choice items. He has frail defenses anyway, why bother?
Choice Scarf - see the sub-salac. You get versatility.
Life Orb - ZOMG, lemme run a mixed sweeper. HOW ABOUT NO! The attacking stats aren't that great that they can be split.
Earthquake - What do you hit? Aura Sphere and Close Combat do a good number on everything after STAB. Maybe a spare magneton, but meh.
It could counter if you want it to die. Protect/Detect are good for scouting as usual, but he won't be leading often.
Focus Punch - not really. Close Combat, aura Sphere all fill in quite nicely. High speed and low defencesa really kill its sub potentials.
Water pulse on Skywalker - ahh. You do better with Aura Sphere vs. Rhyperior.

2 good moves are actually not mentioned in those sets: Force Palm for status (though you can usually KO faster anyway - you won't need it) and Hi Jump Kick. HJK is cool for the pp, the power, and the lack of defense drops. 90% really isn't that bad for accuracy.

There are a few ways to go with Latias, some sort of wish-passer/staller or a sweeper. Seeing as you gave it 252 Special Attack and 252 Speed, you will want to go with a sweeper

Latias@Soul Dew
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Dragon Pulse/Calm mind
Psychic/Recover
252 Special/Attack 252 Speed/6 HP

Dragon Pulse and Psychic are STABed, but Thunderbolt and Ice Beam hit everything normal effective except for Shedinja, Magnezone, and Lanturn, so Calm Mind and Recover are good options.

Also, since I beleive that Soul Dew Latias is in Ubers, the only pokemon you will likely see that resist BoltBeam is Shedinja...I'm not sure about Latias without Soul Dew though, and if you can't get Soul Dew, the leftovers if you go with Calm Mind/Recover, and I don't know, maybe Life Orb with Dragon Pulse/Psychic.

Latios and Latias don't really have any "synergy" moves (correct me if I'm mistaken) so just have EQ on one or both of them (since they both have Levitate) and then use standard moves for the rest. Or, you could make Latias a wall-type thing and give it Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, and an attacking move.

I have a shiny Caterpie which I want to make into a decent in-game scrapper. (Oh, how I wish that Butterfree was competition material!) I know that Silver Wind is kinda iffy for such a low-stat critter, but I really like having a Bug move in hand and I don't want to deal with Heracross right now. What about a set using Silver Wind | Psychic/Giga Drain | Sleep Powder | Stun Spore?

It has been 4 months since the creation of this thread, and thus far, no standard sets have been added to the first post...I have an idea.


Let's use the POTW as a guidance point.

This week's POTW is Metagross.

Metagross @Choice Band
Adamant | 252 HP , 200 Atk, 12 Speed , 44 Def
~Meteor Mash
~Earthquake
~Explosion/Ice Punch
~Zen Headbutt/Pursuit/Bullet Punch/Thunderpunch

Okay, lets look at this set - 100 base steel move + STAB coming off of a great Attack? That will deal massive damage. And those that resist get Earthquaked (Electrics). Or, in the case of waters, Thudnerpunched/Zenheadbutted.

Now, the Ice punch in slot 3 works best with thunderpunch in the 4th slot(3 pokemon resist, and with EQ, thats left to Shedinja Only). Otherwise, an eseentially 500 base power Explosion is cool (def drop).

The 4th slot is really toss-up for what you need - Zen Headbutt deals with waters and fightings. Oh, and lol poisons (DO NOT STAY IN ON WEEZING, as you have a good chance of being burned). Pursuit is a monster now that its physical. And when people see the gross, they will want to switch out. Bullet punch works well to compensate for low speed stat and quick weavile kills. I think it ohko, I need damage calcs.

Same thing as CBgross.
Some calculations in terms of speed tiers...
202 Speed after an agility will allow you to outrun all pokemon with 269 speed and a choice scarf/1 stage speed boost. (Heracross)
250 Speed (requiring +Speed nature) will allow you to outspeed choice scarf jolly Garchomp.


Special Gross
Metagross @choice specs/expert belt
Modest | 200 HP, 52 Speed/Def, 252 SpAtk
~Psychic
~Grass Knot
~Shadow Ball/HP Fire
~Explosion

It gets more than Psychic as STAB. -Atk nature is okay, seeing as Explosion is super powerful anyway. Feel free to throw on Flash Cannon for rocks and ice types. You'll do better with HP Fire, though, because you cover grasses in addition (not to mention steels). This accounts for about two thirds of his usable special pool. Of note: SludgeBomb for status, Icy Wind for slowing something down, Hyper Beam is kamikaze, and being unSTABed makes it more worthless.

Speed for even more surprise.

Brave | 200 HP, 252 Atk, 56 Def
~Hammer Arm
~Gyro Ball
~Earthquake/Thunderpunch
~Explosion

Only use with Trick Room teams. Lower your speed with hammer arm, deal massive damage with gyro ball. Note that by "lowering your speed", you increase the likelihood of going first.

~Shuca/Occa Berries (EQ vs. Fire Blast) for hold items at any point.

~Agiligross and CBGross can get Rock Slide, if you care.
~Something overlooked in POTW - Magnet Rise gives it a complete ground immunity, leaving only one weakness (lol, fire).
~Iron defense can go on snore set.
~Psych-up catches calm minds, bulk ups, swords dances, and curses if you care.

Countering this mofo -
Sleep really hits it hard. Hypnosis is good, if its prime users weren't afraid (Milotic and to an extent Bronzong)
Burn just...zomg. Dusknoir in general.
Swampert comes in clean (read: MOST METAGROSS AREN'T SPECIAL), as does Hippowdon.
Scarf-chomp also does it. Keep in mind - without perfect HP and 16 Def EVs at 31 IVs, Metagross is dead to a third of Chomp's quakes. Just be wary of ice punch variations.
Skarmory with its superfluous defenses, immunity to EQ, resist to Meteor Mash. Just stay clear of exploders.
Magnezone under the condition of locking it into anything but EQ and meteor mash.
Keep away from fire types in general. Believe it or not, Charizard is one of the best counters to non-Rock Slide Metagross.


What will make this post better:
1.) Determining how much attack is needed to ohko weezing with zen-headbutt. Pretty much, what can zen headbutt do aside from taking down heracross.
2.) Bullet Punch damage vs. Weavile

and then give him a high defense teamate(s) with trickroom and follow me (though follow me could be replaced with a focus sash for a one off shot

just currious if anyone else has tried this.

Power Trick shuckle? Yeah people have been trying it since the move was discovered. It doesn't work. Sure you end up with an attack rating a Little higher than a dragon after a dragon dance, but not only does it take godly superiority to set it up without losing you shuckle, but for the most part it is tankable. Meaning after all that you might get walled by bronzong or something.

Oh and your Smeargle set, transform is awfully nice, but ROT and Spacial rend will do Tiny Tiny damage because of his tragic stats. Also there are easier ways to sketch moves, like in the double battle restaurant.

Since you seem to have focus sashes, consider trying a smeargle with moves that don't rely on power, like counter, endeaver/extremespeed, transform is good, spore, ect. I think that's much more fun in addition to being much more affective

Though fly is a pretty neat one too, not for battle, but for fun of course.

I thought sketch didn't work against your teamate... I know it didn't in Coll. I noticed what you are talking about with the damage... i kept the moves anyways. I only use him with my EV-Free dits in Wi-FI BR battles. (never one a single battle, but gets lots of friend passes)

I chose a flying move originally to counter fighting, but I don't think it'll help.

My main Shuck has a more standard moveset

Toxic
Sandstorm (since it doesn't hit most of my party)
Swagger
Rest (to avoid PP burnout in long battles)

it's fun 'cuz it takes him as long to kill a lvl 2 as it does for him to kill something 10 lvls higher than him. This moveset has problems against steel tho, but i have a flygon for that.

Hey, it's me again, once more posting weird sets, that might or might not really work, for overlooked pokemon :P

This time, we have Luxray, which stats and movepool make people consider it weak, or at least the environment around me and my friends make us look him that way, but here is a set I thought for him.

{luxray} @ Choice Scarf
[Neutral Nature] | Intimidate | Erratic EVs spread, but consider Defense, HP or Att, Speed and Sp. Att.
. Discharge
. Ice Fang
. Roar
. Swagger

In this set, we look at a good utility pokemon with a bit of hard punch.

Leading with an Intimidating Pokemon is a classic and a good one, having Boltbeam is nice to have against anything that is not called Lanturn and Phazing is the bane for Baton Pass Chains (BPC) that aren't headed by +Spd natured Smeargle @ Ingrain.

With Swagger in the table, we look at the overlooked Mild Swagger, which is done by using said move and causing a neutral or simple Attack raise on the opponent (Intimidate + Swagger = +1 Att Stage and confusion. AKA "Mild Swagger").

Not only this set provides the ever-nesessary Boltbeam, but it also sports a good chance of parafusion, which, in conjuction with good type coverage, means this creature is more than ready to take on many things.

Other Options:

Getting rid of the good Parafusion chance, we have Jolly/Adamant Lux with Thunderbolt, or, to a lesser extent, Spark instead of Discharge and more Att EVs, I used to think of this one, but then I remembered Skarmory and Gyarados.

Captivate is one novelty of option, and so is Attract, these could go instead of Roar or Swagger to force switches, there is other set including these in conjuction with the Ability Rivalry...

120 Base Attack is more than enough for Quick Attack to take place, siezing the opportunity against glass cannons that aren't called Rampardos (e.g. Weavile/Alakazam/Sharpedo) is always a plus. Since 70 base Speed will never allow you to outspeed them.

HP Ground says hi to Lanturn, but it's hard to get 70BP HP in this world.

I really don't know of other Item that could in here, but let's consider Shell Bell, Shuca Berry and Lefties as options for now.

Only post sets that actually work - Shoddy Battle tests, actual wifi, etc.

And, with that - my comments on the 3 sets:

Shuckle Bomb - no exploding shuckles. Giga Impact? NO WAY. Withdraw - are you insane for this metagame? Power trick does work - as long as you cleared out all physical attacks from the opponent (whether by pp draining or killing).

Smeargle - Wing Attack soon to be fly? Transform? Roar of time? Smeargle is a supporting pokemon - passing ingrain and swords dance, basically doing things it does well in (not attack).

Luxray - that would work, but there are a few problems:
1.) The defense stat is about as good as blissey's - horrid.
2.) The special attack sucks
3.) Discharge has crappy power...

And thus (full Luxray set to be coming soon), we have Spark, Ice Fang, Crunch/Return/FireFang, Crunch/Return/FireFang @Life orb or choice scarf.

sorry, I diddn't know there was a certain place for fun sets...

that being said:
Shuckle Bomb refers to the idea that it attacks then dies... a last hurrah if you will. i know it can't explode.

The pp drainage is not nescesary with the follow me/trick room teamate uses trick room, shuckle raises def, next teamate uses follow me, shuckle uses giga impact etc. (he's just here to kill someone, if he dies while recharging, well the deed is done already)

Also, in my defense, i stated that these we're intended as fun, NOT serius battling... I tought smeargle what I did because i could. I didn't know that sketch worked on teamates (it didn't in colleseum, at least not on hydro cannon), so teaching it the dragon moves was alot of work.

If someone post a non-serious move set as such, don't tear it down based on it's actual battle potential. some people like toi try different things...

I'm sorry - I just don't want this thread going off of the main road again - one post about 1 pokemon here, 1 there, etc.

I have seen probably 5 shuckle moveset request posts, so, yeah.


Anyway, I'd like to continue with the plan that I was going on - synchronization with the POTW. This week, as you all know is Huntail.
But, we know it belongs to a triangle of pokemon classified under different movestes (huntail, gorebyss, and clamperl).

Hopefully, I will have the 3 sets up later today, but I promise by tomorrow :D

Just an idea for a scyther that i have had on my mind for a while as a lead or physical sweeper/BP last stand...

May not be the best set but i haven't seen any movesets with the new D/P
Physical/Special moves. Please post a sweep moveset that contains BP
but still has Attacking potential. Anyways the item could probably be razor claw or something...

He's only lv. 29 but he can kick a lot of lv. 35+ poke's I know, I can't wait till he's garchomp and fully trained!
