Ahh, teh horrible missing Pokeballs. I never did like it when it missed, especially if I was trying to catch a Chansey *mutters about stupid Chanseys* but yeah, weaken them first

It helps a lot to Sleep, Paralyze, or Freeze them. I don't think poison has the same effect.

i've had that problem before. I paralyzed Zapdos when he had barely any hp and I still missed sometimes. (never did catch him on that file)

Yep, it'll probably work. However, to have the best chances of capturing the Legendary, you should minimise its health to the dark red zone, and make it asleep or paralyzed.

I managed to freeze Zapdos (but couldn't freeze Chansey in Unknown Dungeon) on my current file, so catching him wasn't all that difficult once I knocked him around a bit. If you're having trouble with just Zapdos, you won't have the same issues with Articuno and Moltres, as they're considerably easier to catch. Sleep, paralysis, and freezing are about equally effective, so go for one of those status changes.

Actually, I believe freezing and Sleep are more effective than Paralysis, but hey, work with what you've got.
