What the heck does a wailord eat? There's no shrimp-like pokemon.
EDIT: now just discuss what do all pokemon eat.

I guess the closest thing would be a corphish... but that's a lobster/crawdad type pokemon and the pokedex does say they eat shrimp and krill... but in the anime there are no actual animals, every wild creature is a pokemon.

Besides berries and other items like Protein, have Pokemon ever actually eaten?
My guess is, if Pokemon do eat food, that Wailord eat algae, or kelp. Or something like that. Plants, and such. Other than Pidgeot's Pokedex entry concerning it and eating Magikarp, I've never heard of Pokemon eating other Pokemon. Of course, one can let the mind get away from the friendly atmosphere that is depicted and imagine a Houndoom pack killing a Stantler or something.
If we're going by Dex logic then, as the announcer of the movies keeps saying, "there are many Pokemon left undiscovered"...so there could very well be a krill Pokemon, or a shrimp, that "humans have not found yet" that Wailord eats.

Apparently, the people never really went through this thuroghly(SP?). Since everybody's sayin' "anime" this and "anime" that, shouldn't this be, I don't know, the anime section?
But anyway, who knows what they really eat. Maybe it's a chemically based protien enriched food made in a factory that tastes like chicken and is convieniently(sp?) called Chicken. At least, that's what we eat, maybe they have it, too.

Does anyone bother reading the pokedex? In Mightyena's it says they hunt in packs, what are they hunting for? Apples? Mightyena probably eat anything wolves would eat. [Were looking at you, STANLER!!]

Oh, I remember something! In the second episode (in the anime EVER), it said that Pigiottoes ate Caterpies!!!! That means POKEMON EAT POKEMON! But, then, do humans eat pokemon, too?

As I said before, the pokedex on ruby even states that Wailord eats krill/shrimp (I can't remember exactly which one) which means someone has obviously studied it before. Also, Aerodactyl is said to have eaten prey by riping them to shreds with it's saw-like fangs. I'm pretty sure it's not talking about berries. Even if the anime never shows it, there probably are actual animals around somewhere, they just don't show it since it wouldn't be relevent to the series.
And for Typhlosion, it states that when in battle it scorches it's foes so badly it reduces them to mere ashes... The beedrill that used to be is no more, scattered in the wind. In truth the pokemon world is probably a violent place, unlike the happy, harmonic world displayed in the anime and tries to be portraied in the games.

Do you think that it is nicer than ours? Or do you think that there is a war going on right now that was started without any reason without proof for the reason that they originally had.

Were kinda going off topic!! in pokemon, im pretty sure pokemon eat pokemon, I mean think, do you think that a mightyena would go up to something and eat berries? no, it would rip another pokemon to shreds! and maybe humans haven't descovered krill and shrimp pokemon.

I've never really thought of it
I always figured Pokemon ate pokemon but I left it at that; in the anime they show them eating berries, pokeblocks, and whatever it is that Brock makes. I'm guessing they eat a krill/shrimp pokemon that hasn't been identified by humans yet.
Off Topic - When they eat steak and stuff in the anime are they eating Tauros?

I wasn't talking about our real world at all... so what exactly is your comment based off of? I'm not trying to be overcritical, I'm just curious.
And Xeeros, it's probably either that or miltank or stantler... I guess.
And regarding the krill... I guess it's possible they're not discovered yet, but I for one just find it unlikely. The pokedex already states that the Wailord eat krill and squeeze out the water they would otherwise swallow with their tounge (just like real whales). So it's obviously been studied what the Wailord are eating... and it doesn't say it's a pokemon. It COULD be for all we know... but I just find it unlikely.

Wailord eats many kinds of "junk" food. The planktons and seaweeds are its food. For sharpedo, they hunt for Golbat. Why? Because sharks like blood and a vampire bat contains tons of blood!

Off topic: In the episode where ash got his second badge when he went to misty's house there were fish. Those were actuall fish that weren't pokemon. In the very first episode it said that pidgey's eat worms. So there could be actuall animals in the anime.

Yeah, but that's weird in a sense too. What would happen if a real caterpillar meets Caterpie, for example?

Then the walls between time and space get ripped apart and then all hell breaks loose. Seriously, what do you think would happen? They'd probably just walk by each-other. Or, Caterpie would recognize the caterpillar as his kind and try to talk to it, soon realizing that the caterpillar doesn't understand: "Rrrrriiiuuuurrrruuuu" or something like that. Thousands of things can happen.

It gets Caterpwned.
Caterpie's a foot tall according to the Psydex and caterpillars (around where I live, anyway) are like, two inches tall.
Actual example aside, I do agree that would be weird. In my opinion, real animals and Pokemon don't intertwine all that much, but they do co-exist. Perhaps they don't.
For all I know, Pokemon could eat dust particles in the air when berries and such aren't around. Of course there's logical explanations like "Pokemon of W species eat X berries, and leaves of the Y tree, and occasionally small Pokemon of the Z species", but we have two dragons that control time and space now.
I do, however, stand by my opinion that if we take such a thing as what a Pokemon's diet consists of seriously, that Wailord eats shrimp and krill Pokemon yet to be discovered. Or underwater plants.

Don't forget Ekan's entry in the original RBY, "moves silently and stealthily, eating the eggs of birds, such as spearow and pidgey, whole." So they put some thought into being specific, but if nothing exists they resort to using real animals.

It's all a mystery. If a caterpie meets a caterpillar. A magikarp meets a fish. A tauros meets a bull. These may never be answered, but I doupt that real animals exist in the pokemon world, because pokemon ARE the animals of the pokemon world.

I suppose you're right... It just seems like there's a line somewhere where they either have to include something in the next gen., or use an animal instead of an existing pokemon. Takes some thought to process this one...

Think, what would happen if a Tauros and a cow met, [bull+cow] Cowros? I don't think so.
