Post subject:  smeargle in pokemon contests

i just had an idea which could help to win at pokemon contests. use smeargle {smeargle}!!

ok, he can learn every possible move, and he can therefore learn every possible combo for every possible contest type.

so i reckon it would be great if people out there who have done really well at pokemon contests could suggest some movesets for smeargle for the different contest types. i know there is a rating centre, but i think this is kinda different right?

it would also be kinda cool that smeargle (an artist) would get his picture up in the museum.

I don't think this would be such a good idea.

There are many other good pokemon that can be caught in the wild, then contest pampered immediately (eg skarmory, barboach). Wouldn't this be less time consuming than levelling a Smeargle all the way to 31 (or maybe even higher if you didn't breed it) to give it a full moveset? Also, after the ten or so levels that smeargle needs to learn Sketch, you would have to carefully hunt down a certain move (some of which are extremely hard to get to as well as having a 25% of that attack hitting smeargle) and then repeat the process all over again.

And anyway, smeargle is too ugly to be stuck in a museum. :(

Me neither. If you had the patience, I guess you could pull it off.

Yes, but for Smart Contests, he would be really useful. I find they are the hardest to win at, so Smeargle is a god send in that respect.

I like the idea, nice one Cuddles.

That could be remedied easily. Could you not just take it and a heart scale to the move tutor to just relearn Sketch.

Just take it and a pokemon that knows the move that you want into a double battle, make sure that it is faster, and have it use the attack that you want, and use Sketch on its partner.

yeah, i guess the idea was just for "fun". ive read that smart contests are very difficult to win, so that was one of the things i had in mind.

as other people have pointed out, smeargles are actually very easy to train. you just go in double battles and sketch the moves your partner uses. and use heart scales to relearn sketch. its even easier in XD where you can go to mt battle and have as many double battles as you like. even if smeargle is faster you can just make it miss a turn (give it a potion or use a flute or something to waste a turn) and then sketch the move the other pokemon already did.

of course it would be better to win contests with other pokemon more suited - eg beautiful milotic etc.

I agree with you, cuddles. although there easy to train, its better to use other pokemon. But they act like wild cards.

Thats a good idea cuddles, but the best moves for contests (those that make a 8 hearts ending) are -unfortunatly- unsketchable (explosion/selfdestruct, memento, destiny bond). Altough DB is sketchable, so It would be perfect for a smart contest.

Anyway there are much prettier things that deserve their picture there: those who are almost majestic (lapras, espeon, milotic, suicune, articuno, etc) or shinies (they get a shiny picture).

Well, I guess Memento, Selfdestruct and Explosion ARE sketchable...

...Hey, I found a superb Smeargle moveset to win the SMART contest:
1~ Calm Mind
2~ Confusion
3~ Toxic
4~ Poison Fang
5~ Confusion

The only thing that I would actually use Smeargle for is for the tough contest, because I already have really good pokemon for the other four contests, it is just the Marowak that I trained that I did not win the first time, and actually took me three days to win with.

Thats good but you may want to use destiny bond for the last move, a 8 hearts ending is always good. Besides I think destiny bond is smart

yeah, but to bad that if you want a smeargle for every contest, you'd have to catch five smeargles, cause you couldn't feed it poke blocks for every stat, and its moves. So it would be awfully hard to that all.
