Mareep (Gold/Silver)
Pikachu @Lightball (Kanto, nvm)
Jolteon (You'll get Eevee in Ecruteak, and a Thunderstone in crystal soon after.)

There are good alternatives, though - Abra w/ T-punch, Magmar w/ T-punch, etc.

Grass:
The starter
Bellsprout (Very good alternative)
Oddish ( If you didn't defeat the rockets, its in ilex forest)

I think that Vileplume is a pretty good Grass-type. You can use the solarbeam/sunny day combo along with Giga Drain for HP recovery, and maybe Poisonpowder for extra damage.

I think {raikou} is the strongest Elec. type and i think {meganium} is the strongest grass type

I'm sure you would think that since Raikou is the johto Electric legendary, and I do agree with you on it's electric attacks, it's just if you raise an Ampharos really well with really good TMs then I'd have to disagree. And also, Ampharos can use pretty good fighting type moves too, it can destroy all rock types in their tracks. So sorry Dark_Mew I'm gonna have to go with Ampharos on this one.
