As the topic name states I was just playing Pokemon Blue and when you turn on your game you can change the colour of the game by moving the D-pad around and the colour will change so.... what is it a glitch or a cheat?

A glitch exploits minor holes in programming codes.

A cheat edits the gaming codes (temporarily).

A rom/hack edits the gaming codes permanently.

Yours is a glitch. Red and Blue are very glitchy (Mew, MissingNo. , 'M)
But, how do you see color? Aren't they Black and White?

No basically when you turn on your game before it leafs the game boy section if you press around with the D-pad you can change the color of the game. The colors of the game that can be changed are a mix of red and green, brown and a bright pink and of course you can change back too a default color of the game(eg. Red or Blue).Oh and I am playing on a GBA SP.

It sounds like a glitch in the color programming, if it just started recently it may be age catching up to the cartridge...the only other explanation I can offer is it may have been an original idea of the designers to allow players to choose a basic color scheme for their gameplay.

...Are you guys serious?

It's not a glitch. It's not cheating. It's a feature built into the gameboy color/advance/SP. If you read the gameboy manual, it tells you that you can change the colour pallette of the original gameboy games.

And, because I know the next reply is going to be "lol i dont have my manual", here is a link to explain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gameboy_Co ... or_palette

You can do it in Red and Blue only no Yellow and if you think GSC you are sadly mistaken as I have tried my self.

I believe she was refering to all original gameboy games. Not just pokemon ones.

Also, if you looked at the link I gave you and read this:
Quote:
Special Game Boy Color palettes were built into the black carts, making it impossible to change their palette.

then you'd probably realise the same is true for Yellow version. The cartridge isn't black because it has to be yellow.

Well I DID look at the link but not to long as I had other things to do rather than read through it all. And the color thing for yellow version doesn't work I already tried it at the time I had made this topic.

* Right + A: Dark Green (Default Palette)
* Right + B: Inverted Monochrome

This thread makes my brain hurt..

Pokemaniac, if you had actually taken the time in reading about the colour palette link that Krisp sent you there would be no confusion and no arguing. Wikipedia is the most vast encyclopedia on the internet, I think what its posted is correct or it wouldn't be there.

There are that many colors? Whoa I only found out four.
When I did that accidentally for the first time I got scared and turned off my GBASP because I thought I screwed my game.
Then I did it again and the game worked fine.
Then I turned it off because the colors were creeping me out.
Well, that's a relief for sure. Thanks Krisp.

Anyways....I have a question of my own.... this kid I used to know would "change" the color to black and white and stuff like that....but he just turned the game off when that color pokemon was shifting through the starting screen. He also hit a couple buttons but I can't remember which ones...does that have something to do with this?

Maybe if you read this entire thread (which is only about 15 posts long) you'd have your answer.

I did, Krisp, I just had a different question that was somewhat similar to this and I didn't wanna make another topic.
