Sorry if this has been asked before, but I wasn't sure how I'd go about searching for it.
Here's the question: When you look at a Pokemon's Summary, on the second page, right above where it tells you what flavor of berries it likes, it says something about that Pokemon's personality, such as "Very finicky", "Mischevous", "Likes to fight", "Alert to sounds", "Good endurance"... There's TONS of them, more than I can count. I was wondering if those have a purpose. I heard a rumor that those vaguely have to do with IVs, which I don't completely trust, but it might be true.
Anyone have any info on the subject? It's more for curiosity than anything, really, and overall would just be nice to know. --Schwa

They aren't the same as natures, but they might as well be. They just give hints about your pokemon's fastest growing stat if you don't know by looking at its nature.
For example, "Proud of its power" is what my Luxray has. Its fastest growing stat, therefore, is attack.

I found this post about which personalities coorespond to which stat has the highest IV, and its held true for 20+ pokemon I've bred since:
_____________________________________
Ivs By personality
HP:
Loves to eat / Often dozes off / Often naps / Scatters things often / Likes to relax
Attack:
Proud of its power / Likes to thrash about / A little quick temopered / Likes to fight / Hot tempered
Defense:
Sturdy body / Capable of taking hits / Highly persistent / Good endurance / Good perseverance
Special Attack:
Highly curious / Mischievous / Thoroughly cunning / Often lost in thought / Very finicky
Special Defense:
Strong willed / Somewhat vain / Strongly defiant / Hates to lose / Somewhat stubborn
Speed:
Likes to run / Alert to sounds / Impetuous and silly / Somewhat of a clown / Quick to flee

So it's IV information? This is excellent news... that makes nature-breeding that much more effective. (No wonder my Gardevoir turned out so good.;; )

According to the Prima Pokédex (which is HUEG), it just indicates which of it's stats are going to grow more. Pretty much just a rehash of nature. However, it may mean that a pokémon with a certain personality will gain points faster in a certain stat, but it'll still end up the same as it would at level 100 as any other pokémon with the same I and EVs.

Actually it's all in the strat guide you can buy, it tells you what grows fast and slow with its personality and what its nature raises fastest. let me know if you want it because it would be a lot of typing but im up to it.

I don't think it's true, because I have a Modest Pokémon whose personality says "Likes to run" while another of my Modest Pokémon have a "Capable of taking hits" one, and yet another one has a "Likes to fight" one. So I think Ajonos is right, and personality shows the IVs of that Pokémon.

...Which is along the lines of IVs.
I'm elated to find out there is now an easy way to find out a pokemon's best IVs! ^_^ (Because before, you'd have to get an untouched pokemon, save the game, then level it up to 100 using rare candies, and then gauge by its final stats what its best IVs were. -.-') Now I know my Meganium and Feraligatr will turn out very good.

I'm confused do you guys think nintendo would really make it that easy? I think it is just to add a bit a difference between 2 pkmn with the same nature but don't think it has to do with IVs because then it would say something in the guide don't you guys think?

It holds up under scrutiny though.

Well, only serious trainers are going to know how to utilize the information concerning IVs. Most of my friends who play pokemon, do not battle competitively, and just normally train their pokemon enough to get them through the game. No nature breeding, no EVs, no IV checking. And serious trainers may not necessarily find out the meaning of these "characteristics" listings. So in a way, I don't think it's too easy, just pleasantly easier. *got an Adamant Totodile with high IVs for Attack! ^_^*

It must be IV's. My Adamant lv100 Salamence has 402 attack and has "likes to fight" as its personality.
