I know that to play the TCG right, you need counters for damage.
Only problem is, I can't find any in the stores. Same thing with most energy cards. Does anyone know where you can buy them?

You can use more than damage counters--many people use dice, and you can also use coins if you are desparate.
Energies are cheap, but some stores might not sell them separately. Also, at preleases, when you make your own deck with cards they give you, you have (almost) unlimited energies.
An option for both is to buy pre-constructed decks. They have energies, but only about two types. They also have damage counters.

I usually use 12- or 20- sided dice for damage counters.

If you want too use regulation counters you could buy those structure decks,but those cost 45$ so it's not really worth it at all.Use something else if you don't want to spend that much money.

wow dont know where ur going but the decks around here are $5-15
try walmart is not that bad a place. Thats where i get my energys

I have been to a dollar store with my friends and they bought 1 LG/FR Structure Deck and they both cost them 45$.

If anyone knows what "Pokemon Jr. Pokemon Emergency" is, I use the counters from that (if I end up playing at all).
