Omg... so mastermind of the mirage pokemon just started... and i've never been more disgusted.....

They've totaly changed the voice cast!!!!!! *whaaaaaaa*
Ash sounds like Richie... May has just suddenly hit puberty (and got a way deeper voice), jesse and james sound like they have the flu, brock kinda sounds like butch, but at the same time different... and my friend jesse says professor oak sounds like an old man... (an even older old man)

can someone please tell me why they did this... i mean, especialy for a 10th anniversary event?

I think im gona be sick... this is horrible....

from what i can tell... mew was a mirage pokemon, but it was messed up by the evil dude's ideals, so he wanted to get rid of it... but some how couldnt? anyways... i dont mean to trash talk the voice of richie... richie is a cool pokemon character, but he's not ash ya kno?
and that was umm...
lets just say im not allowed to use alot of my pretty words on psypokes...

the story was ok... but i dont get how he got data on mewtwo...
Mewtwo has done everything possible to hide his existance, and if ash, misty, brock, giovanni, jesse, and james were the only people who met mewtwo... where could this data of possibly come from?

an brock didnt exactly sound like butch... but like.. butch if he were an old man? if that makes any sense...

I've already explained why the voice actors have been replaced on the VERY FIRST TOPIC FOUND ON THIS FORUM. This tenth anniversary special was created by Pokemon USA and was used as a test run for the upcoming cast of replacement voice actors. PLEASE TAKE ALL DISCUSSION OF THE NEW VOICE ACTORS TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT THREAD ON THIS FORUM. This thread will now be used to talk about the aspects of the special other than the voice acting.

First of all, I don't even know why we're celebrating the tenth anniversary of Pokemon in America. Red/Blue were released here in September '98, so that's not anywhere close to ten years. Thus, the whole idea of a company called Pokemon USA creating a "tenth anniversary special" for the franchise when America has only even known of Pokemon for 7.5 years is just a bit stupid. Then they ruined the special further with the new voice cast, (which I will get into in-depth in the aforementioned stickied thread,) and a lot of inconsistencies, for example, Pikachu shouldn't know Volt Tackle in the Anime yet. Where was Chimecho during the Rocket motto? How did Misty have time to leave Cerulean Gym? Why was everybody so insistent on using just one Pokemon even though Mewtwo had already beaten them down?

The plot was pretty bad; it seemed like the writers just felt like rehasing Mewtwo Strikes Back so they could rush this special out for a cheap buck or two. Besides the facts that the Mirage Pokemon smacked of Mewtwo's superpowered clones and an evil scientist was to blame for the conflict of the special, there was a big focus on Mewtwo and Mew, and they fought each other. The "twist" was poorly revealed and made absolutely no sense; Oak just suddenly KNEW Mastermind was Professor Young because he called Mew defective? How in hell does that make any sense? And why does Professor Oak randomly have a Dragonite? How does one Volt Tackle kill such a powerful Mewtwo? Why did the characters claim Mew had a soul when it still got wiped out after the Mirage Pokemon's data exploded? Why did they so poorly cover up the fact that Young committed suicide? The special was just so badly written it wasn't even funny.

Oh yeah... and that rap song intro was just terrible.

i was talking about the voice acting not just for saying there's no voice actors but to say that they ruined the movie!
And this movie has left so many unanswered questions....
now it's not unheard of for misty to leave the gym, an since they're cramming a whole "movie" into 1 hour with camercials (so its more like 35 minutes of film) i can only assume they cut alot of the movie up (sushi vision)... but still...
How did he get data on Mewtwo if the only character he interacted with that knew about mewtwo was pikachu, an he didnt extract it from pikachu's memory(that machine was **ked)?

I was also curious about when ash ran into mew... he's said somethin like "hey its you again mew" or somethin like that... as if he'd seen mew before... but the only time ash has seen mew was in mewtwo strikes back, and mewtwo erased everyones memories... mew was not in Mewtwo returns, and i dont think it's been in the tv series so wtf?

I am a proud owner of pokemon movies, but i dont think im gona waste my money on this one... even if there was a "could be worse" half-baked story... it was just horrible... and as for the suposed suicide at the end... how silly! You cant die, hasnt pokemon taught you anything? ash got shot by mewtwo and mew in the first movie, an just turned to stone... then he was revived... you cant die... nobody can!!

I think it's obvious that Professor Young most definitely did die, but the writers were too afraid to say so; you typically don't survive if you walk into a laboratory that's on fire. What's weird is that this was a special written by Americans, so therefore they could have just had a cheap "cop out" moment in which Young realizes that everything he's doing is wrong and that he's going to change his evi ways. This, of course, would be followed by a scene in which all the characters are best friends and they run through a field of flowers, rainbows and cute bunnies.

I would assume that Professor Oak has data on every known Pokemon in the world, even the legendaries. People in the Anime's storyline, such as the entire organization of Team Rocket, already knew of Mew's existence and they used one of its eyelashes to create Mewtwo. Therefore, it wouldn't be impossible for Professor Oak or anybody else to have data on Mew. Did Mewtwo erase the memories of anybody in Mewtwo Returns besides Giovanni? That could explain why the characters knew of his existence. As for Ash recognizing Mew, that was yet another inconsistency with the main series.

One-hour programs in America tend to be 44 minutes, not 35, and there was nothing to "cut out" from Japanese version because this was an American-made special. That surely explains everything that went wrong or was otherwise crappy about this thing, doesn't it? It's like impossible for American writers of any series to be consistent about anything, ever.

Okay... I hated this one, and I don't hate things easily. Like above, the voices sounded awful (characters and pokemon alike) , Mew looked retarded (if anyone didn't notice it was not the same), and the plot was strange. I really hope they don't do something like this again... especially the pokemon heads sticking out of mewtwo. That just... argh!

omg it was so horrible. May had no emotion in her voice(and Brock) she was like "Max." not "MAX! " and brock was not like all I love nurse Joy he was all like I am just saying this for my paycheck. And the attempt at a theme song EWWWW! :? . It was horrible   The only cool thing in that episode was Pikachus volt tackle(wich came from where?) i dont think I am going to be watching the shows anymore. I am going to give it one more shot. Also when they said Pokemon sounded weird. I think that Pokemon needs to take a breather and sit and start fresh with this new episode(Or I hope they did that)

i think except for ash and friends, mewtwo erased everyone's memories of what happened... and mewtwo has never done anything except for hide the existance of himself and cloned pokemon.

Since mewtwo isnt a "known" pokemon by all meanings the tv show would have, professor oak should not have any data on mewtwo, nor should anyone else...
so really... even jesse and james shouldnt have any clue who mewtwo is... only ash, pikachu, misty, and brock
Walking into a fire cant be anything that a little moo-moo milk or a heal bell couldnt cure...

And just to prove how horrible this movie was... and how badly i was disturbed by it... i ate a hotdog with strawberry jam on it instead of ketchup without realizing it until i bit in!
If that doesnt say this movie was messed up... i dont kno what does...

Horrible. And the worst part about it was, I had just finished watching Mewto Strikes Back 12 hours before, and while watching it I sat there thinking "Wow. I never realized how good an actress Veronica Taylor is. She puts so much life into Ash. And the plotline of this move is so awesome. I love this movie so much, I think I should start watching pokemon movies again, starting with the special tomorrow morning." Boy, was I wrong. Let's see. Where should I start?

The plotline:
Despicable. Nothing really went together. You could never have been able to tell that Dr. Yung was the guy. I had no clue he had anything against pokemon or some creepy institute. When presenting his machine to hs guests, he seemed like the nicest guy ever. And out of all pokemon, he chose Mewtwo. If I were him, I would much better prove my point by choosing a weak pokemon to make super-powerful such as Luvdisc. And even if the machine only worked with already super-powerful species, I agree with you Frost that it was made that way to make Mew and Mewtwo fight. I hated that! This is supposed to be an all-mew special, get more creative. How about a whole crap-load of extinct pokemon vs. the characters pokemon plus a mirage blissey and a crobat? And I also agree with the fact that Oak shouldn't have been able to figure out the Mirage Master's identity so easily. What good clues did he have? Ugh. I could go on forever about this.

The characters actions 1 (ash & co.):
1. Their pokemon. The only one who did anything right at all in the entire thing was Pikachu. Everyone else was a horrible actor/actress. Dr. Yung's plot was not predictable enough for Oak to figure out who the Mirage Master was. And Staryu's bubblebeam was so fake! It was red! Aren't bubbles supposed to be clear/blue? May's voice was way to deep for comfort and Max barely did anything. And yes, I too did notice that Mew was very different, the voice was EXTREMELY annoying (especially after watching Mewtwo Strikes Back 12 hrs before) and mewtwo was just...UGH.

The characters actions 2 (Team Rocket):
OH...MY...GOD! What is wrong with this people?! And where is our little Chimecho that we've all come to know and love? In all the movies I've seen (plus when I read the synopsis for Lucario and the Mystery of Mew), TR starts off with their usual evil intentions, but before starting their plan they have a revelation and decide to turn good. In this movie however, before they started their plan, they hid behind a bush! You'd think they'd do something other than be losers! In fact, one of the main reasons I watch the movies and not the show, is so I can see TR not be losers like in the show.

The single worst thing about this movie:
It had potential. The one-liner plot synopsis was amazing. If given the synopsis found here, then it would have been fantastic.

Oh yeah and on a side note, at the end of Mewtwo Returns, after Meowth makes his speech and they are about to take off in their balloons, Ash says "Yeah! Now this time, we can both remember." This implies that Ash now knows that he had forgotten what had happened before, which implies that there is a small chance that Ash & co. + TR (the ones in white) got their memory back.

naaaaw.... in mewtwo returns, ash's pikachu runs into clone pikachu, an then they go on to find out that ash had met mewtwo before, but mewtwo erased everyone's memories. Mewtwo was going to erase everyone's memories at the end of mewtwo returns, but ash said he didnt want to forget, so they can both remember... as for team rocket (all of them) im pretty sure they were erased...

Ya kno tho, before that so called "special" went so horribly wrong, i'd of thought the Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon would have been someone like Giovanni... i mean really, the dude was psycho for mewtwo, even if his memory was erased Pokemon USA would probibly find some stupid filler to make up for that anyways.

I liked the special the only thing I didn't like was VAs. Except for that it was the best ever :D. Plotline- I liked it espicially with Mewtwo and Mew. The ending was sad for me with Mew dissolving into data  .

So the fact that mew looked and sounded utterly retarded didn't bother you?

Seriously, why did they have to make it look so different

Update: On the pokemon website, they were discussing the special. They said that they got almost all positive feedback, which such things as 'The plot was excellent' and 'A lot of action'. And they even said that the Voice Actors did great. WTF? No! It seems that the VA's are staying...

Don't believe me? Check it out! http://www.pokemon.com/flash.asp

i think im gonna hurl......
Pokemon.com has to be full of... ya kno.... "it"
Nobody i have not yet seen anyone say that that special didnt suck! well... with the exception of Pokemon Champion who seems to be oblivious or imune to the complete horror and stupidity of the Mirage Special....

I guess it's possible for more people to be like Pokemon Champion... but i prefer to imagine Pokemon Champion as the only 1 in a million people as far as it goes for liking the Mastermind special...

^^^I already beat you to it.

This reminds me of another show, well, because it was so bad maybe you would not want to remember it.

If any of you watched the final (and I mean FINAL) episode of Enterprise, you would be in the same disposition.

See, the two worst writers for Enterprise did the last episode as a valentine to Star Trek fans. What happened was a huge doubleslap in the face!

First, the episode was about Riker in the TNG episode with the Pegasus and the federation cloaking device. He went to the holodeck as a suggestion from Troi to get answers over who to obey (Captain of ship or Admiral on evil mission). So he plays the last Enterprise NX-01 mission, where Archer is bringing the Enterprise home to form the Federation, but goes on a "side-quest" when his Andorian friend loses his daughter to a bad business deal. They get his daughter back, but on the way to Earth the bad guys get on the ship, and use Trip to get around. He blows himself up, killing them. Now Trip and T'Pol had a strong relationship in the previous episode. That was gone in this one. Then we see him alive again, talking to the "Cook", played by Riker in the holodeck. Sure, he could have rewound the program, but still, continuity was BLEH! Then after a very short mourning over Trip, Archer gets back to his speech. The speech that every Star Trek fan wants to hear. The speech that begine the United Federation of Planets. Do we get to hear that speech? Nooo, the last words spoken on set are "Computer, end program." Sure, they had the Enterprise intro done with all three shows, Picard starting, Kirk doing the middle, and Archer ending, but still, the rest of the episode SUCKED more than a vaccum cleaner powered by a warp core!

So you see, these kinds of disappointments happen a lot. Hopefully this time it will either end here at season 8 or we will get the good voice actors back.

I remember that episode... at least they didnt change the entire cast of Star Trek? Riker was Riker, Troi was Troi, etc... It was a horrible hack job on that Star Trek episode too.... but at least they had riker on the enterprise making it look like part of an old Next Gen episode... instead of.. what's his new ship? the titan? or somethin?
They never did follow up on that...

Anyways, i still say the pokemon special sux far worse... Being both a Trekkie and a Pokemon fan i think i can say that...
At least find people who sound like the characters they are sh****ng all over...

Thats why i say final Trek Enterprise is 1up on the pokemon special... they might of done a horrid job on the final enterprise episode, but they kept the cast, and for the most part i guess some of it made sense...
