Don't the vitamins only raise BASE stats? (''Torterra's base attack stat has been increased'' or w/e.)

Nintendo does not like to give away secrets of its game, so they're not going to say it gained Atk EVs.

Also, they may be referring to the pokemon's out-of-battle-stat - in battle, moves and statuses can raise/lower stats temporarily.

heres a question: if my lead spot pokemon with pokerus is completely maxed out on ev's, and my other pokemon im trying to ev train is holding exp share and it has pokerus, would the latter pokemon gain as many ev's if it were in battle instead of only gaining base ev's?

If it has pokeRUS then it should still gain the 2x EVs even if the Pokemon fighting is maxed out.

also if its helpful I have some hotspots for EV training in D/P Ive chosen them based on how accessible they are:

HP: Surf Route 212 South (90% Wooper +1, 10% Quagsire +2)
ATK: Fish (Super Rod) Resort Area (65% Gyrados +2, 35% Seaking+2)
DEF: Surf Pokemon Leauge (65% Pelipper +2)
SATK: Surf Resort Area (100% Golduck +2), Old Chateau (95% Gastly +1, 4% Haunter +2, 1% Gengar +3)
SDEF: Surf Sunyshore City (60% Tentacruel +2, 10% Mantyke +1)
SPD: Route 225 (40% Fearow +2, 30% Raticate +2), Fish (Old Rod) Anywhere (100% Magikarp +1)

Hm...a few ammendments:

HP: Bidoof Girl - South of Solaceon, standing next to the mud slide. She has five Bidoofs. With PKRS + Power HP item, you get 50 HP Evs after battling her once.
Def: First cave on the left in Iron Island - Loads of Graveller and Onix with like a 5% chance of finding Golbat.
Speed: there's a guy who has six Magikarp. He is just west of Eterna and on that bridge. 60 EVs, ftw.

Ok, so I'm new to the whole idea of EV training and I have a quick question. Lets say I am EV leveling a pokemon with the pokerus but he is holding an exp. share (he's not the one fighting). Does the pokemon with the exp. share and the pokerus still gain the double EVs for holding the exp. share even though he does not participate in combat? Thanks

Well, there is no need to google, for I think this topic covers EVs sufficiently ;)

1. Why does my Pokemon not gain 63 Speed stat points when I let it accumulate 252 Speed EVs before levelling it up?
Ans: Stat increases due to EVs gained are not apparent right from the start. You will yaddah yaddah yaddah levels. Regardless of when the changes become obvious, your Pokemon will end up with the correct stats when it eventually reaches level 100, so worry not.
Ok, then what would happen here?

I have an Infernape that I decide to raise as a Physical Sweeper. I give it the 252 EVs in Attack, and level up normally, etc. Then, at lvl 99, I notice for the first time that its natur is Modest. I decide to quickly switch to Special Sweeper, so I use berries to lower the Attack EVs and put them into Sp Attack. Then I level up to 100. Will it gain 63 in one level then, or do I have to do the box trick?

Yes, I realize thats very unlikely, Im just curious, as my friend almost did that (lvl 95), his little brother used a bunch of them to evolve hsi Golbat into Crobat and deleted half his Speed EVs
It gains 63 stats at one level-up. I have a picture of it, one fin (Tonu) make his rayquaza get all EV's at once:
http://server6.uploadit.org/files/Tonuuu-rayquaza.JPGRandom Pokemon
http://server6.uploadit.org/files/Tonuuu-RAY.JPGOnly Spindas and in the end Rare Candy.
Not by me.

E: I do this same trick (Almost) I removed my Tyranitar's Speed Iv:s at level 98. When it leveled up, it gain 31 stat boost.

i have a question. when you face a trainer, wifi battle, wireless battle. do you get EV's from those or do you only get them from wild pokemon :?:

Author:  koipen [ Mon Jun 02, 2008 5:25 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

No you don't. You only get EV:s from battles that give you exp. Ingame trainers igve you exp. so they give EV:s too.

What about if i'm planning to EV train a lvl 1 espeon for speed? What will be the outcome if i use this trick:

Battle starts w/ espeon holding an Macho Brace
Then switches to another pokemon
Defeats foe (Magikarp) and battle ends

How many EVs will espeon gain from that battle?

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

Espeon gets 2 Spd EV:s. Alltough I would do this: Put pokemon to Daycare/Give it candies to level. 20/30, depending on the Pokemon you want to beat. Then just beat Pokemon. Remember to use Vitamins first, you get Full EV:s lot faster.

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

Okay i have a question. I have a rhyhorn and hatched it at level 1. Ive been EV training it in attack against gyrados and right now it's around level 28. Since i havent tracked every single battle since the beginning is there anyway to tell when its attack EV is maxed so i can move onto defense?

Author:  sN0wBaLL [ Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:10 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

Not really. You have to track those EVs. If you mess up, the only way out is to reduce all the EVs via Emerald's EV-reducing Berries, then restart the EV training.

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

you could move onto defence and keep track of it and then, when you have 255 evs in defence, take it to that lady who gives you the effort ribbon (i dont know where she is)

Is there ANY way of keeping track of EV's ingame without marking them down?

Unfortunately not.

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

You could use the Counter Poketch app, just click the button every time you beat something and focus on one stat at a time

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

Well that's possible. I've forgotten about it having not played PD anywhere further than the first few cities, and that's quite long ago. You have to be diligent though, since it's still a manual method of recording rather than an automated record of your EVs.

My previous post still holds true for older games though =p

Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

please help me!! i would like to know something that it' s not clearly stated.. when you 've beaten a pkmn that gives you 1 EV, using 2 of your own pkmn, how this 1 EV is divided??? ..each pkmn will take 0,5 EV?

Author:  Nida [ Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:28 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Effort Values Explanation

EVs aren't divided like experience. Instead, each pokemon involved receives the full EV allotment. So if you had two critters fight a Bidoof (tough Bidoof!) and a third on the sidelines with EXP Share, then they would each receive one HP EV.
