Post subject:  Re: Battle Royale: QUARTERFINALS

Results:

Q1: {haunter} +13 | {venusaur} +7
Q2: {beedrill} +11 | {pikachu} +8

But wait! What's this? Some anonymous votes coming my way! Yeah you guys are going to love this by the way..

{haunter} +5
{pikachu} +5

Which brings our final standings to:

FINAL RESULTS:
Q1: HAUNTER def. [9] Venusaur (18-7)
Q2: PIKACHU def. Beedrill (13-11)

Gotta feel sorry for the Beedrill fans, but the giant bee's big run is now over. Personally I'm glad he's gotten this far, and probably would have loved to see him go further (or even maybe win the whole thing!) as the big underdog in the competition, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. In his place, Pikachu will be facing off Haunter for a place in the finals, which means that we will have a NFE finalist no matter what! Haunter eliminates the final seed remaining in the top half, Venusaur, who has done very well in the competition outplaying Charmander, Wartortle amongst other Pokemon too.

Quote:
If I'm correct, Venusuar and Beedrill (I think, havent played SS in awhile) are both poison. So, no matter what, we will have a poison finalist.

By finalist, I meant in the final... and since Pikachu has qualified for the semis (which I'm sure will shock some no doubt), it's still possible that a Poison representative might not be in the final 2.

Anyway, HOPEFULLY I can start the next matches pretty soon, just waiting on a couple of PMs, but I'll start this within 24 hours at the latest

Post subject:  Re: Battle Royale: QUARTERFINALS

Thanks all for tuning in to the second half of the Sponsor show! And my, first off we have to congratulate both Haunter and Pikachu, both of whom have qualified for the semifinals. One of them will go to the finals for a chance to win the Battle Royale crown, but not before two more exciting quarterfinal matches! And also, commiserations go to Beedrill and Venusaur fans, who will unfortunately not be taking anymore part in the competition. Guess it goes to show you can't take anything for granted, right? But back to the contestants remaining, for our first guest, please welcome back the one the only DragoBoy!

Image
DragonPhoenix: First off, welcome back onto the show! It's always a pleasure chatting to you on this couch, and I'm sure our viewers feel the same way as they sit from their own couches. Haunter's gotten through fine now, so now you have to turn your attention to Dugtrio. Just a short recap for newer viewers: firstly, the speedy mole was one of only 3 Pokemon to sweep through the Prelim stages garnering a vote from every single judge. In round 1, he beat out Psypoke favourite Clefable, and in Round 2 he came from behind to catch the 10th seeded Sandslash unawares. What strengths are you guys planning to emphasize in the arena?

DragoBoy: Dugtrio is useful. Both in game and out. In-game it's readily available just before Kanto's electric gym in Digglet's cave. In the metagame Dugtrio is blessed with one of the best speeds around. Arena trap makes for a great revenge killer, and is especially useful for setting up on choice-locked electric attacks. This plus Hone Claws and Substitute = proceed to obliterate. Oh, and one more thing: Memento. Hit opponents fast and then cripple them.

DragonPhoenix: They do sound like crippling moves indeed! Dugtrio does seem like a multi-talented one. But apart from his learnsets, is there something else that sets him apart? Why do you think the audience will get behind the three headed mole?

DragoBoy: Why? Diglett dig diglett dig trio trio trio. That's why.

DragonPhoenix: Haha hey! You're going to get the audience in a trance! Do you think you guys might be able to stun Arcanine in a similar fashion? How do you rate your chances against the great fire dog anyway?

DragoBoy: Hmm... the "legendary" Pokémon that runs at an "unbelievable" speed. But Dugtrio's still faster. No useful offensive moves and is 2x weak to Dugtrio's STAB attacks. Still, Arcanine is a force to be reckoned with, can't be to sure here.

DragonPhoenix: Confident but cautious - that's the way all good trainers are! I like that in you. Good luck to both you and Dugtrio in the next battle, and who knows, if everything goes your way, you're well on the road to sponsoring both finalists in the competition. But I do want to ask one last question... as the sponsor of Dugtrio have you actually seen what's underground? Can you confirm or deny the existence of his feet?

DragoBoy: 3x the heads = 3x the feet = 3x the mystery.

DragonPhoenix: Still as cryptic as ever... nevertheless, please put your hands together for DragoBoy as he makes preparations for his next match! And now, for our next guest, please welcome the star of the recent movie success, War of the Dragons, the multi talented ShinyLucario!

Image
DragonPhoenix: Welcome to the show ShinyLucario! First I gotta introduce to those who've just tuned in about your superstar sponsoree Arcanine. He's the 2nd seed in this competition, who put up a great fight against Marowak and also manage to comprehensively defeat the 15th seeded bug Butterfree. Arcanine really deserves his second seed doesn't he? What are some of the trusty firedog's strengths?

ShinyLucario: Looking at Fire-type Pokemon, most either have temper problems (Charizard, Typhlosion) or can be dangerous to touch (Rapidash, Chanderlure). Sure, they are cool and powerful fighters, but not one you can cuddle with. Enter Arcanine – a perfect blend of the majestic lion, the loyal dog, and the mighty tiger! While a fierce fighter in battles, the furry beast can be a loyal and lovable friend to any trainer. It’s one of the very, very few Gen I Pokemon that captivated me, and I’m sure you, Mr. DragonPhoenix, know the feeling too! ;)

DragonPhoenix: I sure do! Many of the audience members will know I've always been a fan of the legendary dog. But you know, (surprisingly), some people don't feel the same way! I've tried to convince some of them otherwise but to no avail, maybe you can do a better job than me: how would you get others to get behind the stripey canine?

ShinyLucario: If you’re ever in need of someone who is more than a hot-blooded fighter – one that can also warm up your coldest nights, give Arcanine a chance. It’ll quickly prove to be a loyal and reliable companion!

For those interested in competitive power, Arcanine is also a powerful beast. While a little crippled by Stealth Rock, its well-rounded stats and impressive movepool that expanded even more in Gen V makes it a versatile Pokemon. It can destroy Water types with Wild Charge, make up for its speed with ExtremeSpeed, recover with Morning Sun, or even make a sturdy wall!

DragonPhoenix: A handy jack of all trades it seems then! Looks like Arcanine's got it all set! Are you confident then at whatever opponent the Battle Royale draw throws at you, that you and Arcanine will be able to come on top?

ShinyLucario: To be honest with you, I’m always a bit jittery during Arcanine’s rounds – perhaps due to the close match with Marowak in Round 1. Now it’s facing Dugtrio, who not only packs some super-effective moves but has also gained alarming popularity. Still, I have faith that my trusty fire dog can escape from the dirt-dwelling three-headed mole’s sandy trap!

DragonPhoenix: That's right, faith in your Pokemon is one of the most important thing one can have in the Battle Royale. Have you got any closing remarks before we head off to a commerciak break?

ShinyLucario: Well, people, just look at Mr. DragonPhoenix’s most wonderful choice of an avatar and admire Mr. Kouki Saitou’s action-packed art of this mighty beast.

DragonPhoenix: Why... what a great choice of art. Really highlights all that is great about Arcanine. Thank you for joining us on the show, ShinyLucario and we hope to repeat this conversation again next week for the semifinals! And now, just quickly before the commercial break, an overview of Quarterfinal 3!

QUARTERFINAL 3: [7] DUGTRIO vs [2] ARCANINE

Sponsor moves:
Dugtrio used Bulldoze! Arcanine is hit with -1.. Arcanine's speed fell 1 stage to -1..
Arcanine used Agility! Arcanine's speed rose 2 stages to +1!
Dugtrio used Bulldoze! Arcanine is hit with -1.. Arcanine's speed fell 1 stage to 0..
Arcanine used Agility! Arcanine's speed rose 2 stages to +2!

Image

COMMENTS: Arcanine's stats are just too good for Dugtrio to compete with, however luckily Dugtrio tries to even this somewhat with his super effective moves. Arcanine does some good prediction with his Agility move, maximising his stats in all areas. This will probably be an extremely tight match, with both sides having just as many fans as the other, but will a 3 vote disadvantage be too much for the mole to recover from?

Post subject:  Re: Battle Royale: QUARTERFINALS

Thanks for sticking by everyone! We'll launch straight into our next interview right now, so don't go anywhere! He's a strong silent guy with.. lots of money, probably, but please make very welcome the charming Shuckle-rock$!

Image
DragonPhoenix: Thanks very much for joining us, Shuckle-rock$. Your Pokemon, the 6th seeded Charizard, needs no introduction... but I'm going to do it anyway. The giant fire lizard squeezed into the main draw, knocking out Machamp and Weedle in Round 1, and edged past Bulbasaur in probably what was one of the tightest matches we've ever seen in Round 2. Obviously there's got to be a good reason for his successive wins! What are some of his key strengths?

Shuckle-rock$: He might be a little overated with some people, but I like him, since he's an awesome fire-breathing dragon. He was also my starter in my first game (FireRed) and would simply Flamethrower everything to death until the Elite 4, where Lorelei pretty much stopped me.

DragonPhoenix: Sounds like Charizard is one of those Pokemon you can always count on, right? What else would you say to people who are on the fence regarding Charizard? Maybe you can provide some reasons why they too should pick Charizard as someone they can always count on?

Shuckle-rock$: Well again, he's a cool dragon (although he's not a dragon type for some reason (and he should be)) and is part of the original pokemon group. He is also very powerful, fast, and has a large movepool, so that's why I think people should vote for him.

DragonPhoenix: And that's everything you want in a Pokemon! Well you've convinced me thats's for sure. Not that I needed convincing in the first place because I've always been a fan of Charizard myself! But this next battle: Charizard will have to face Blastoise, who he obviously has a weak matchup towards. Do you see this as problematic?

Shuckle-rock$: Unfortunately, he has some BIG competition with Blastoise next round, since he is very similar to Charizard, and that everyone is speculating that he will win. So it might be Charizard's last hour for the next round, but who knows? He just might pull through.

DragonPhoenix: That's right, all you need is trust and belief and anything can happen for you. Best of luck to you and Charizard, Shuckle-rock$, hopefully the type weakness won't be much of a barrier to your progress in the competition, and hopefully we'll see you on the other side!

And for our final guest tonight, some of you may have seen around these parts before. His presence around here is pretty big, and you probably have been living under a Geodude if you haven't at least read about him in the papers before... please make welcome the famous Samurott!

Image
DragonPhoenix: Welcome to the show Samurott! Nice entrance there by the way, I like it. Firstly just introducing Blastoise to newcomers of the show: he smashed through Round 1, beating out Gastly, however in Round 2 he had a tighter affair, only beating Charmeleon by 1 vote. Looking like the two of you make a great team! Why do you think that is?

Samurott: Well, after six months of boycotting pokemon (After I lost with Venusuar. What? C'mon, I was like, 6.), I got back into it. I bought Blue, and I was like, "OMG, that looks great!" So I popped it in and picked Squirtle. Within a few hours, I was taking on Lt. Surge with Sandslash, Raichu, Farfetch'd, Pidgeotto, Diglett, and of course, Blastoise. About 40 levels (and 20 hours) later, I was beating the crap out of the E4. This s*** blew my ****amn mind when I was a child. I know people love this awesome turtle. Not shellfish, turtle. Because there IS. A. F****NG! DIFFERENCE!

DragonPhoenix: Haha alrighty, I know we provide refreshments backstage for all our special guests but I'm going to ask you to calm down a little! Enthusiasm is always good but remember we're airing in a very early timeslot. Anyway moving on: you're here to promote the giant turtle, right? What are some of the advantages of the water starter?

Samurott: Why shouldnt people vote for him? He has guns on his back. GUNS!!! He'll get offended if you dont for him. I wouldnt want to offend he has a gun.
Besides, Hitler would vote for Charizard.

DragonPhoenix: That's pretty true, and you know I am a gun enthusiast myself! And speaking of Charizard, how do you see your chances against him? What are some strategies you'll employ when facing off against the walking fire hazard?

Samurott: Opponent? Pfft. PUH-LEASE! He's an overrated fire lizard. With wings.
He practically screams "MARY SUE!"

DragonPhoenix: Aren't Mary Sues ideal characters? Wouldn't that make it harder for Blastoise to compete against? But anyway, we seem to be running out of time. Any last remarks on the competition or on life in general?

Samurott: I LIKE PANCAKES!!!!1!111!!!1! Umm... Just think. Before Mudkips, their were Squirtles.
NOW VOTE!

DragonPhoenix: Alright well thanks for taking the time out from your busy schedule to come chat with us! Us at the production team would like to wish you the very best in next match coming up, and we'd also like to wish you luck at your next AA meeting..

QUARTERFINAL 4: [6] CHARIZARD vs [3] BLASTOISE

Sponsor moves:
Charizard used Smokescreen! Blastoise's accuracy fell 1 stage!
Blastoise used Rain Dance! Water moves are now given a +1 boost! Fire moves are now given a -1 boost!
Charizard used Dragon Dance! Charizard's Attack rose 1 stage! Charizard's Speed rose 1 stage!
Blastoise used Hydro Cannon! Charizard is hit with -2..

Image

COMMENTS: Blastoise vs Charizard! This one is going to be an epic one. When it comes down to it, this one is just one big nostalgia fest, so we'll see what happens here! Blastoise starts off with a handy 1 vote advantage, however that could easily be made up by the surging fire lizard! Who will get through? Only one way to find out! Stay tuned an make sure you vote for your favourite!

----------------------------------

INITIAL SCOREBOARD
Q3: {dugtrio} +0 | {arcanine} +3
Q4: {charizard} +1 | {blastoise} +2

Second batch voting now underway! Thanks to all the sponsors DragoBoy, ShinyLucario, Shuckle-rock$ and Samurott who were all patient enough to sift through my long PMs in order to get these rounds underway!

Also I'd like to thank everyone so far who has commented, posted, voted.. etc.. the more votes we get, the more suspenseful things get too, and as cliche as it sounds, I don't think this BR competition would be as half as interesting without the upsets and opinions we've seen in the last few pages. :)

Progress results:

Q3: {dugtrio} +1 | {arcanine} +12
Q4: {charizard} +7 | {blastoise} +8

Is the speedy mole's run coming to an end? He needs a whopping 11 votes to match the fire dog, which would seem like an incredible feat to do. The three headed mole better hope some luck is coming his way in the the TM shower! Quarterfinal 4 however, is an absolute nailbiter, Blastoise winning by just 1 vote at the moment (which was also the margin that they both started off on). It's neck and neck here in the arena, who will get through?

Q3: "TMs 04, 12, 27, 37 and 41 fell from the sky!"
Q4: "TMs 02, 06, 22, 52 and 75 fell from the sky!"

Dugtrio learns Return (27) and Sandstorm (37), so will get +2
Arcanine learns Return (27) so will get +1.
Neither learns Calm Mind (04), Taunt (12), nor Torment (41).

Charizard learns Dragon Claw (02), Toxic (06), Solarbeam (22), Focus Blast (52) and Swords Dance (75), so will get +5.
Blastoise learns Toxic (06) and Focus Blast (52), so will get +2.

48 HOUR SCOREBOARD:

Q3: {dugtrio} +3 | {arcanine} +13
Q4: {charizard} +12 | {blastoise} +10

Q4: {charizard} - This is incredibly close, but I really like the Gen 1 Dragon/Dragonlike pokemon (Gyarados, Dragonite, and Charizard), so my vote goes to Charizard. Blastoise is also pretty awesome, though, and I'm sad they have to meet in the semis here.

lol, good find with a Pokemon comic I haven't seen before haha.. anyway here I am back again to conclude the second batch of the quarterfinal matches! Here are your results:

Q3: {dugtrio} +7 | {arcanine} +13
Q4: {charizard} +14 | {blastoise} +10

And of course... before I wrap up the round... some anonymous votes! These could very well change the final outcome of the matches! So let's see who the lucky recipients are:

{dugtrio} +5

FINAL RESULTS
Q3: [2] ARCANINE def. [7] Dugtrio 13-12
Q4: [6] CHARIZARD def. [3] Blastoise 14-10

:o Dugtrio almost manages to force a tiebreaker against the great firedog, but Arcanine pulled too strongly ahead for the three headed mole to catch up. Arcanine will face off against the 6th seeded Charizard, whose wide movepool turned out to be its strength as it picked up the maximum number of votes possible in the TM shower. Unfortunately for Dugtrio and Blastoise, their run ends here, but we have to thank them for being great competitors in the arenas.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FINAL FOUR:

And congratulations to each of their sponsors, all of whom are 1 step closer to the grand 1st place prize of 2,000 Psybucks!

*snicker* Nice move, Dugtrio, but looks like I popped your balloons again! You're now grounded forevah!

S1: {haunter} - I'm amazed Pika squeezed its way into the quarterfinals, but it's going home when faced with this cool ghost with a menacingly comical (or comically menacing?) smile and creepy disembodied hands. Gotta hand it to Haunter!
S2: {arcanine} - I can tell already that this is gonna be a tense, tense round. But I have a sliver of hope that my big fuzzy canine can triumph over the fiery temper dragon!
Winner: {arcanine} - And as cool as that gaseous ghost is, it's not getting past Arcanine. Highlight to view spoiler.
Heck, it's getting freakin' OUTRAGE now. Time to demolish some stuff.

Apparently Samurott's Water/Psychic type. For like the first time I wholeheartedly wish his lead would prove right again!
