So, I'm shortly going to be done with school for the semester, and I want to get back into pokemon over Christmas break, which more or less means that I'm going to restart Leaf Green, to get the third starter. However, I don't really want to take the time to come up with a full team on my own, so I'm going to let you suggest one for me. It's going to be mostly for in-game use, and I do have a Fire Red version that I can trade with, so any pokemon I can get before I get the National Dex are available. Blastoise must be part of the team. The submissions will be judged on how much I like them, how much it'll actually have a good shot in-game, and how well-built of a team it is. You may submit as many entries as you wish, but DO NOT DOUBLE POST! So, get to team building, and win some Psybucks! Wait, did I say Psybucks? Because the prizes are going to be as following: 1st: 200 Psybucks. 2nd: 50 Psybucks. Honorable Mentions: 25 Psybucks. Participation: 5 Psybucks. The Deadline is two weeks from today, or roughly the 17th of December. Edit: Just to clarify, feel free to include whatever you wish with your submission. EV spreads, Items, Movesets, etc. I'd prefer not to have any legends in my team, though. |

Should the team involve legends or no? And should I include items or EVs for the Pokemon as well? For this entry, I'm going to assume no legends, not including items, do not list EVs (because I'm not good at EV spreads or item giving). I can edit them in later if you wish (but I won't be able to give good EV spreads): Blastoise, Relaxed/Sassy Surf Rapid Spin Ice Punch Protect --This guy is a spinner. Surf is standard fare, as is Ice Beam. Protect is just in case you want to make a daring move on the way out. Alakazam, Modest Psychic Shock Wave/Thunderbolt Reflect/Recover/some special move Fire Punch --Classic Special Sweeper. Shock Wave is in case evasion is reduced, and Reflect is so he'll survive a few hits, or just replace it with another special move. (Can't think of one off the top of my head.) Charizard, Timid/Jolly Earthquake Aerial Ace Dragon Claw Flamethrower It's a +Spd nature, with Timid or Jolly being a choice of whether you emphasize the Physical or Special aspect of this mixed sweeper. Dugtrio, Adamant Earthquake Slash Sludge Bomb Rock Tomb/Rock Slide/Ancientpower Physical Sweeper. Won't survive one hit, but Alakazam is like that too. Aerodactyl, Adamant Double-Edge (if Rock Head) Earthquake Rock Tomb/Rock Slide/Ancientpower Swift Another physical Sweeper. Use Rock Head to take full advantage of Double Edge. Vileplume, Modest Giga Drain Sunny Day Solar Beam Toxic And here's a Sunny-Beamer, with a Toxic sub. I picked from the 149, as I'm assuming this team will have to be 1st-time E4 material. The movesets might look weird because I'm out of practice in LG. Oh well, maybe this will inspire me to get back into practice in the future. - DNA Edit: Forgot the natures and descriptions. |

Here's a team that would be useful realitively early on. That's why it seems so weak. This demonstates the converse of the phrase "If you can't beat them, join them." Ninetales | Charcoal Timid 252 Sp Attk, 252 Spd, 6 HP -Flamethrower -Confuse Ray -Calm Mind -Will-o-wisp Hit with WoW and Confuse Ray first few turns. Use Calm Mind to boost Sp. I hope this will achieve satisfaction: Ability: Torrent Nature: Careful/Calm/Quiet/the other Sp. Defense raiser EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Sp. Attack, 6 Sp. Defense (In case Sceptile or Jolteon appears) Item: Shell Bell Surf Earthquake Ice Beam Haze Given the fact that stat-boosting is common in competitive gameplay, Haze would be very useful, as would his strike down with Ice Beam and Earthquake on his two weaknesses. His fantastic Defense and Sp. Defense make up for his un-supported speed, and his Sp. Defense EVs and Nature helps in the fact most Grass/Electric moves are Special. With the highly unlikely chance that he faints... Ability: Sturdy Nature: Lax/Relaxed/Bold/Impish EVs: 252 Defense, 252 Attack, 6 Sp. Defense Item: Soft Sand Earthquake Iron Defense Rock Slide Shadow Ball Extremely defensive. Iron Defense is only support in case Rampardos suddenly appears. Earthquake is boosted by a considerable amount from Soft Sand. He is another type-sweeper with another urge to survive as long as possible. Also... Ability: Chlorophyll Nature: See EVs: 252 Sp. Defense, 252 Defense, 252 HP Item: Leftovers Sunny Day Psychic Giga Drain Leech Seed This is the one of the most common drainers, yet is still quite devastating. He stays in battle for unbelivable amounts of time thanks to Lefties, LS, GD and EVs. But then, you can't rely on everything, and he might faint. Which brings you to... Ability: Flame Body Nature: Modest EVs: 252 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP Item: Sitrus Berry Substitute Flamethrower Psychic Thunderpunch Formidable. If you're lucky enough to still have Sunny Day from Exeggutor, use it to your advantage, and Flamethrower everybody except for Flareon (maybe only whatever its good for). Substitute is likely to fade out, and so you will be needing always to Subtitute time after time. This is good; keep it up until your Sitrus activates, then give them a good kick in the butt. Everybody loves variety... Ability: Volt Absorb Nature: Impish EVs: 252 Defense, 252 Sp. Defense, 6 Speed Item: Quick Claw Double Team Toxic Thunderwave Baton Pass Pretty much self-explanatory. Baton Pass to... Ability: Swarm Nature: Adamant EVs: 252 Attack 252 Speed 6 HP. Item: Lum Berry Swords Dance Silver Wind Aerial Ace Steel Wing Quite offensive, no? Swords Dance till you reach the point where Swarm activates, or until you've done three, then use your indescribable attack stat together with your boosted Silver Wind to give them a sign of pain. Also Lum Berry kills status. ------------------------------------------------ Of course, teams aren't just for battling, you may want a few legendaries . And this is where another Pokemon comes into play! Ability: Effect Spore Nature: Careful/Calm/Quiet/teh odder 1 EVs: 252 Defense, 252 Sp. Defense, 6 Speed Item: Focus Band False Swipe Spore Giga Drain Attract Infatuate the Pokemon you are trying to catch, Giga Drain it till its too dangerous to, False Swipe it, Spore it, and catch it!!! EDIT: I edited a few Items, because I forgot you don't find a lot of them in LG EDIT: I just realized you can't get Umbreon without a Hoenn game, so I edited that as well EDIT: (Gosh, I edit a lot!!) I replaced Brightpowerder, Petaya Berry and Liechi Berry with something you can get |

Aerodactyl @ Choice Band / Leftovers Rock Head Adamant 252 Atk/252 Spd/6 HP Double Edge Rock Slide Aerial Ace Pursuit/Earthquake Aerodactyl has great Speed and Attack, as you might know. With Choice Band you can further enhance that Attack, but with Leftovers you can allow it more coverage. Double Edge is a must because of Rock Head, Rock Slide for STAB, Aerial Ace for STAB, and the last move is up to you. Pursuit will let you attack the Pokemon that will switch out, while EQ is just a great move. But if you're going to use Pursuit, stick to Lefties. ------------------------------------- Raichu @ Leftovers Static Hasty 252 Atk/150 Spd/108 Sp.Atk Focus Punch Thunderbolt Substitute / Hidden Power Grass Encore This set relies on Raichu's high Speed and Encore. When the opponent uses a stat-upping move, just Encore away. Or, you could Substitute to scout their move and if it's a stat-upping one then Encore. HP Grass is for Ground Types. Note: Got this set off Serebii POTW. ------------------------------------- Tyranitar @ Leftovers Sand Stream Quiet 252 HP/188 Sp.Atk/68 Spd Substitute Focus Punch Crunch Thunderbolt TyraniBoah, one of Ttar's best sets in this gen. Substitute and Focus Punch are self-explanatory, Crunch for STAB and coverage, and Tbolt for coverage. This is basically your Special Sweeper, btw. ------------------------------------ Blastoise @ Leftovers Torrent Calm 252 HP/128 Def/128 Sp.Def Rapid Spin/Ice Punch Toxic/Haze/Ice Punch Refresh Surf You didn't think I forgot about Blastoise, did you? Rapid Spin for Spikers, Ice Punch for Dragons (who might have Tbolt) Toxic for if you don't think you'll face many Spikers, Haze for stat-normalizing, Refresh for healing Status problems, and Surf for STAB and an attacking move. ------------------------------------- Weezing @ Leftovers Levitate Impish 252 HP/84 Atk/172 Def Haze/Toxic/Taunt/Protect Haze/Toxic/Taunt/Protect Haze/Toxic/Taunt/Protect Sludge Bomb Haze for stat-normalizing, Toxic for poisoning/stalling, Taunt to lure opponents into attacking (especially Physical Sweepers), Protect to stall in combo with Toxic, and Sludge Bomb for STAB/damage. I suggest using Toxic, Protect, and Taunt together, but Haze is good too. Pain Split might be good somewhere for healing, but I'm not sure where.. ------------------------------------- Mr.Mime @ Leftovers Soundproof Calm/Bold 252 HP/128 Sp.Def/128 Def Psychic Calm Mind Barrier Thunder Wave/any of the 3 elemental punches/Substitute Mr.Mime is a pretty good Sp.Wall. It has Calm Mind and Barrier which help with it's defenses. Psychic is for STAB/damage. Thunder Wave is good for paralyzing the opponent. The punches are for coverage, and Substitute gives you some protection. Note that Mr.Mime also has Baton Pass, so if you want to BP Calm Mind or something then that would be an option. Well, there's the team, hope it helps you! Note: I had put in a Sceptile before, but replaced it with Ttar. Hope I am still eligible for Overall Judging... |

As I thought I made clear, THIS IS FOR LEAF GREEN. IE, no Hoenn Pokemon, and most definitely not ANYTHING from D/P. Any teams including parts of those will be disqualified from the Overall judging, although you'll still receive participation psybucks. |

Blastoise+Chesto/Lum/Lefties: Surf Ice Beam/Blizzard Rapid Spin Roar/Rest 200SA, 140SP DEF, 56HP, 112 DEF Modest/Bold Spinner/Special Attacker Rapid Spin for Spikes, Roar to kill stat changes. Rest is if you want to do some Tanking as well. The EVs are to let it attack, while still taking a hit or two for Roar or Rest. Alakazam+Leftovers: Calm Mind Recover/Reflect/Seismic Toss/T-Wave Psychic Shock Wave 252SA, 252SPD OR 252 SA, 100DEF, 152SA Modest/Timid Recover and Reflect will go with the second EV set, and the other two options can be used with both sets. CM as a setup, Recover or Reflect will let it stay in the game while CMing so that Psychic can kill almost anything. Snorlax+Lum/Leftovers: Belly Drum (since Curse needs egging, which is after-NatDex) Rest Brick Break/Earthquake/Normal Sweeping Move Shadow Ball/Earthquake/BB Adamant 252 HP, 252 DEF, 4 ATK, or 252 DEF/HP, 252 ATK, 4 DEF/HP Simple, Drum than Rest, than sweep, than Rest again. Shadow Ball is for the few Ghosts in game (and maybe Psychics), though that's just the Chandelers and Agatha, but oh well, if you want to, why not. Chansey+Lefties: Softboiled Thunder Wave Flamethrower Thunderbolt 252 HP, 252 DEF OR 100 HP, 152 SA, 252 DEF Bold It's the Special version of the Snorlax set, except a better recovery move and annoyance. You can substitute this with the Clefable set below, however. This is mainly to deal with Psychics and Waters, namely Lorelei and friends. Jolteon+Petaya/Lum/Liechi Agility Substitute/Quick Attack Thunderbolt Baton Pass Modest/Timid 252 SA, 252 Spd, 4 Def/Sp.Def/HP Agility IS about the worst move you can give Jolteon since it won't have trouble outrunning much. However, since Jask isn't in FRLG, Jolt is your only other option (i think) for BPing Spd. It is also a usable QAer to quickly finish off Zams and others, that's what QA is for, Sub is to have the thing you're BPing to survive a hit if needed. If not using for BPing, stick with HP Ice/Grass and T-Wave for the two slots. Marowak+Thick Club Swords Dance Earthquake/Bonemerang Rock Slide Double-Edge 252 ATK, 252 SPD, 4 DEF Jolly Marowak and his special item have been abused with Jask and BP for a while now in 3rd gen (or at least, on NB). He's your main option with Jolteon's BP (Lax would work, but he's not meant for outrunning, and Chansey could be used with the BP if you wanted). Unfortunately, his max Speed here is low... and is only saved by a BP, or else the EV spread is wasted. The Thick Club will kill almost anything after the BP, and EQ/Rock Slide is our "unresisted" combo (according to the RBY movesets pagethought Abilities may have changed that) while Double-Edge is filler. Bonemerang is for Subbers, if anyone even uses those in the game (which is Why EQ is the first choice). Some alternate options for this: Clefable+Leftovers Cosmic Power Softboiled Ice Beam T-Bolt/Flamethrower 252 HP, 128 DEF, 128 SD, or 128 SA, SD, Def, and HP Bold This is a substitute for the hard to find and catch Chansey. CP and Softboiled will eventually make your Defenses uber-high, and then you can sweep almost anything. T-Bolt is just for Waters, F-Thrower is for others. Rhydon+Leftovers/Chesto/Choice Band EQ Rock Slide Double-Edge Megahorn 252 ATK, 252 DEF, 4 HP Impish/Adamant This is a sub for Marowak. This set doesn't utilize speed, it utilizes Defense. If using this over Marowak, use HP and T-Wave on Jolt. And alternative set can use Surf/T-Bolt/etc. and three of the above for mixed sweeping, but it's not recommended. In respect to HMs: Surf is on Blastoise immediately. Flash can go on Alakazam instead of the optional move. Jolt could use it also. Strength can be used in the first optional slot for Snorlax as a decent STAB move. Marowak can use Strength also. Cut can go to Rhydon since he doesn't need his normal move. Fly, you'll need a slave for. Farfetch'd gets Cut AND Fly, Paras gets Cut and Flash, and Spore if wanted for legendaries (thought you won't be using those) |

/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Constants: Blastoise - You said so :p Dodrio - By far the best Normal/flying type in the game Gengar - All around good pokemon, plus in kanto is the only thing to get STAB SE on psychics and not have the opponent rofl when you send it out (parasect) Others Zam/Eggy/Toby: Excellent pokemon choices. Psychic will always rule in Kanto, due to bad bugs, only one ghost, and no darks. Other psychic choices could be Jynx or Mr. Mime (lol) Jolt/Wak: BPass some speed to a Thick Clbu Wak, watch the pwning begin Chansey/Lax: Do I have to explain? Plume/Magmar: Have Magmar Sunny Day for you, to speed up Plume's Chlorophyll and power up Solar Beam. Can also be used as a Mag/Eggy combo |
