Just an update, I should have the remaining four Pokemon of my team done by either Sunday or Monday. This of course is all dependant on how lucky I get with eggs, and free time I have to do so.

Whoops. Good catch, KOL. I forgot that myself (mostly because I think Garchomp sucks). So, yeah, you'll need to fix that, /vXv\. Pick a nice Steel/Ground type to finish her up.

I personally disagree with smogon's placement of garchomp on the uber tier, A well place Ice beam and Hes KO'd

In my gym I'd like to allow both Lat@is w/o soul dew, garchomp and wobbuffet, (Be forewarned That I'm well fortified againest them though)

My rule is if its allowed in the battle frontier then Its fair play.

Besides the pokemon VGWC are coming up and they are allowing most of the other Ubers as well!

So If its OK I'd like to keep Garchomp on my team

Sion9 wrote:

Actually the point is to use a standard OU team, because that's what challengers will be using. There's a certain skill level that challengers should have to win, which is what makes a battle league fun.

Besides I have 3 UU, and 1 NU on my team
And beyond the smogon cult wi-fi battles, Like the VGWC, Garchomp is allowed.

I personally agree with you on the whole Garchomp matter. I feel it's easily beatable under good circumstances. However, I don't feel it's fair of me to let you bend this rule. I'd do the same if someone told me they wanted o use a Wobuffet, even though it's not a "powerhouse" so to speak. I'll make you a deal though; if the majority of the people here are fine with you using Garchomp, then I'll allow it to stay. But if some of you guys don't think it's fair for me to give him a bye, then I won't do it. We can be democratic about this. Right now, though, I would keep a back-up in mind in case you need one. And, /vXv\, you're only getting this chance at a pass because I don't see why Garchomp is Uber either. Otherwise, I'd say you're outta luck.

Just curious, could I set the rules for challenging my gym to the same as the VGC ones? For example no more than two ubers, and event-only Pokemon are banned. Also, on the whole Garchomp matter, I think each gym leader should be able to disallow or allow it for their own battles. And is the Elite 4 idea still in consideration?

Author:  Emin Jofit [ Sat Apr 10, 2010 11:24 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Unofficial PsyPoke Gym League: Leader Application Thread

1) Tell me what the VGC rules are (all of them because I don't know them myself).
2) I don't know if the use of Ubers is a good idea at all. I think it would be better for everyone to use OU and down.
3) The Elite 4 idea will only happen if people start PM-ing me for test battles! I think we're going to have test battles to see if you're eligible and understand the basics of Pokemon battling and whatnot. After that point we will hold a small torunament to determine placement of leaders within the league (order of battle, elite four).
4) I'm coming up with more special ideas for when we get this started...I'll tell y'all later, though. ;)

Personally I have to vote down the usage of garchomp. I mean, by the ice type logic, we'd have to allow Rayquaza!

Post subject:  Re: Unofficial PsyPoke Gym League: Leader Application Thread

For HGSS the link battles(not wi-fi battles) has a GS cup battle mode which follows the rules of the VGWC, to look up the rules just check your local pokemon center (PS the GS cup is doubles only I think)

And it doesn't require an Ice Type to beat garchomp, just an Ice move, besides anyone who doesn't carry an Ice move is foolish, It takes out almost all of the dragons in one hit cause it hits for 4x damage, lets see : Dragonite, Flygon, Altaria, Salamence, Rayquaza, Garchomp, not to mention a quite a few other pokemon.

Garchomp is uber because it's too overpowered for the OU metagame, regardless of its double Ice weakness. You can look up the Smogon discussion for Garchomp if necessary; but the point is that it has few real counters given its learnset and stats. A Garchomp with good IVs in wifi would be even more OP.

you know, honestly, with the exception of ubers. I think that the gym leader should be able to choose their "wild card" before the battle begins. It adds a degree of difficulty to the gym challenge.

...and another thing, I'm not good enough to be a gym leader, but I'd love to help run the whole thing. I've run chess tourneys before so this would be the same thing just a different platform.

The Battle League isn't exactly a tournament - it's a challenge for pokemon trainers. It doesn't take long to learn competitive pokemon though; check out some of the articles on Smogon.com and you could potentially be good enough to be a Gym Leader in a few weeks.

Its not only that I'm not good enough, I also don't have enough time to devote to something like wifi play, when i dont have a wireless router. I'd have to go to McD's or my cousin's house to play. With a full-time job, and 2 kids its impossible.

Also, I looked at the EVs section and I'm about lost...there are too many Vs..EVs, DVs, IVs, Eevees...its mind boggling

Which actually gives me an idea for a team...I'd go with an all eeveelution team if I were participating

Post subject:  Re: Unofficial PsyPoke Gym League: Leader Application Thread

Daemiian, you can certainly make our lives a little easier by advertising with a link in your sig. Right now, I don't think I need much help running things. There's not much really to do right now; I've had one person contact for a test battle, and I've neglected him because I've been busy, but other than that no one else appears ready. And on the matter of not understanding EVs, IVs, etc. Don't let that stop you from joining us. If you can find a way, don't hesitate to join us here. An all Eevee gym would be fun for us. :)

Now, on the matter of your Garchomp, /vXv\. I have only received like two opinions on the matter, one in affirmation and the other in negation. I'd love to tell you you can keep it, but I really feel that I have to uphold the OU only rule here. That is one thing that will probably help this stand out to competitors. If I let you use an Uber, others are going to think they can just use all Ubers and we'll have twelve year olds sweeping us with Arceus's. I'm sorry I have to tell you this but rules are rules, no Garchomp. Now, if I get a flood of people telling me to allow you to use it and that they don't care, then I'll reconsider. However, since no one seems to want to respond, my ruling stands for now. I wasn't allowed to brea species clause when I first signed up, so I can't let you break something else.

I've come up with an idea for in-gym rules made by the leaders themselves. The only rule I think we're going to be able to allow regards the way battles are conducted. By this, I mean doubles, singles, Lv. 100, Lv. 50, and other things. If we allow leaders to come up with their own rules (as nice as I think that'd be), I can't see a good way for that to happen without much strife and bad rules. I can see it now--"Lv. 100, single, no item or species clause, and you can't use these Pokemon: Lunatone, Abra, Mawile, Gyarados, Sceptile, Typhlosion, anything that knows Fire moves, Eeveelutions, anything with multiple appendages, and all Dark-types." Hell, my rule was going to be that opponents couldn't use blue colored Pokemon. While hilarious, this takes out a great portion of available Pokes. Thus, I can't tell you guys you can say "I want to use VGWC rules" when most people don't know what those are and it adds too much of a beast to the whole ordeal.

PM me if you have major problems with my decrees. And don't spam my Inbox with complaints and bitching, just if I've made some major infraction against mankind or something.

P.S. You guys have 12 more days to get your battles done. If you don't, you're out unless you have an excuse. A GOOD one, too.

What would really help is knowing where all the items were in HG/SS w/o going through the walkthrough, I know that some1 is working on it so I don't mean to offend any1. As soon as I find a Water Stone, I'll have 5 of the 7 Eeveelutions at lvl 2 or less (primarily because of DPP I had to lvl them up to get Leafeon and Glaceon thank god for Rare Candies). So, I've got a ways to go before they're battle ready. Heck, I'm still trying to lvl up enough to go beat on Red.

I'll keep you posted on the whole gym thing, but I still don't think it'll happen any time in the next 12 days :s

Idk if it was overlooked or not, but what about the "wild card" rule? I think that would be great! Like if indeed I have an Eeveelution Gym, I'd have 7 but only 6 spots, I'd be able to switch one out for every match to add some degree of randomness that the actual games don't have(which I would love)!

Well, certainly you could do that. The point of the "wild card" was to have something that is different from your theme, or something that could help cover weaknesses. Say you have a Fire only team; your "wild card" could be a Swampert. But pretty much, the wild card is yours to do whatever you want with. If you want to flip flop Eeveelutions from battle to battle, I certainly won't stop you. I myself have two different teams I'll be using to take on challengers depending on my mood. Plus, not to knock you or anything, but most Eeveelutions aren't huge hulking threats to most teams; no one could argue it wasn't fair of you to use Glaceon instead of Umbreon because they weren't prepared for it. If a Glaceon spells your team's doom, you weren't well off from the start. And I'm not knocking Eeveelutions, either. I love Jolteon and Umbreon and Espeon a bunch. In summation, do whatever the hell you want. I won't stop you. I'm putting you only the list of Leaders for now as "In progress." Thanks for your possible participation.

Would anyone like to do graphics work? i.e. a signature banner, and possibly gym badges (or gym leaders could each make their own)?

How about each Leader (if I approve anyone!!1!) draws up their own design for a badge and we can just get someone with some artistic talent here to make badges challengers can put in their sigs? All in favor? All opposed?

A few updates:
1) Test battled /vXv\ where he won handily. He's the first and only one to test battle me as of now. I've heard from some others who are almost ready. You guys have a week to finish. A week, I might add, in which I will be extremely busy so I'll try my best with you guys.
2) Registeel_Rocks is still on board to give us moderator support when he can. He has computer issues, so he'll help when he gets the time/ability. Just wanted you guys to know we're still mod-approved. :)
3) Once test battles are done I'll post my rules for our tournament, and we'll go from there.
4) We have recruited Mektar as our cheif badge-maker. You are all to draw up a design of your badge and submit it to me through PM. Don't need pictures of stuff clogging this thread. Badges must be appropriate, too; if I see anything that looks dirty (even if you think you're being "cute"), you're out. Don't try to be sneaky about it either; I'll catch it, I assure you. Send them to me and I'll get them to Mektar once I get in touch with him. Rumor has it he will be applying as a leader as well, but I've yet to confirm that.
5) Do your battles or I'll melt you.

That's all folks. Let me know if there are any questions, concerns, or anything for the good of the order.

I might have to drop out due to life. :( I can barely even find time to play my Soul Silver, much less make my team (still only got one badge from Kanto...). I would love to participate if I could in the summer, but right now with school, I don't think I can make it.

At first, I thought I wasn't going to go through with this, but then I came up with a great theme that lets me use my in-game team members: Heaven & Hell

3 on 3 Single Battle Team:

Togekiss (Angel) w/Razor Fang
Spiritomb (Devil) w/Leftovers
Swampert (Wildcard) w/Focus Sash

I love the theme, but I have two suggestions:
1) Add more Pokemon! I know you're allowed to do what you want, but I really feel like we should all try for atleast parties of 6. Maybe, like, Chimeco (cute, innocent little bell thing) and...something evil. Mismagius, maybe? And then something else, I guess. I'm not telling you to do this, either, merely suggesting.
2) You might want to change the name of the theme. "Heaven and Hell" has to much religious power behind it. I don't care myself, but leave it up to a single person on the site to get offended, contact the admins, and we get shut down. People fuss over the stupidest things, you know. And we already have a whole topic devoted to Pokemon being potentially Satanic somewhere on the site here. I just don't want the possibility of someone whining over that. Make it Good and Evil or Light and Dark or whatever pleases you.
