Post subject: | Re: The NEW Rating Center! Now with more pancakes! |
Okay, me and a friend have agreed to a 6 on 6 non-legendary water VS water battle at the end of the month. I need help meta-gaming. Clearly Water Pokemon with "Water Absorb" are a plus, as would water pokemon who can learn non-water moves such as Thunderbolt, Psychic, and the like. Icebeam is less useful in this format though. Any suggestions for moves and/or team members for my team? I've got about 3-4 set in stone (Lapras, Starmie, Blastoise) and am interested in who should round out my team. Any help is appreciated. |

matthill72 this thread is for posting teams to be rated not which pokemon you should use, please read the 1st post here for the rules. Also Dialga, Garchomp, Giratina, and Mewtwo are banned from standard play (allowed in Ubers) so that leaves 6 for ya. |

Okay this Teamis for the vgwc 2010 I found problems with the other team so I'm going With this New one So for the most part I going with exetremely well rounded tanks That can Hit really Hard but still last a few turns, Remeber Items are interchangable, 2 Ubers per 4 pokemon Double battle The first Paring is Heat Lightning Storm Squad Groudon Life Orb Sassy EVS HP, AT Earthquake Fire Punch Dragon Claw Rock Slide Earthquake blasts both foes while leaving zapdos unharmed, rock slide to hit two foe and Dragon claw for coverage, Fire punch to take advantage of the sun Zapdos Expert Belt Bold EVs HP, SD, DF, SA Discharge Heat Wave Air Cutter HP Ice/Roost Discharge zaps both foes while leaving groudon untouched, (thus is why thunderbolt is there in case groudon gets KOd before zapdos I don't want to zap my allies. Heat Wave Gets boosted by the sun STAB air cutter with High CH is surprisingly powerful in doubles, but HP Ice takes out dragons, Roost is great but I'm not sure I'd want it. Hurricane Titan Squad Lugia Leftovers/Bright Powder Modest EVs HP SA DF Aeroblast Blizzard/Icy wind/Ice Beam Thunder bolt Recover Aeroblast and Psychic STAB, Blizzard= high Power, 2 targetand low acc, Ice beam = high power, single target, high acc, Icy wind = low power, 2 targets, high acc(plus speed drop) thunder bolt will give coverage to lugia, but wheather ball would be great if there was any wheather in play Which I'm sure there will be. Metagross Life Orb/Expert Belt Careful EVs HP, AT Earthquake Iron Head Brick Break Rock Slide Earthquake works well with Lugia, Iron Head power and accuracy, Brick Break for screens, Rock slide for everything else Dark and Light Squad Giratina Griseous Orb/Leftovers Adamant EVs HP, AT Earthquake Shadow Claw Dragon Claw/Outrage Stone Edge/Shadow sneak Earthquake does't bother togekiss, shadow claw for High CH, Dragon Claw/Outrage for STAB. Stone edge for Flying Types, shadow sneak to finish them off Togekiss Serene grace Kings rock/Expert Belt Bold EVs HP, SD, DF Air Slash Aura Sphere Heat Wave Swift/Roost Flinch air slash, STAB Swift (hits 2 target), Heat wave cause it may still be sunny out, and fire helps out giratina majorly Items that will be available to all pokemon Life Orb, Leftovers, Expert Belt, Bright powder, Grieous Orb and Kings rock Please Don't Quote This Post I want to be able to remove All my teams info should I get any were in the tortament. |

So for the most part I going with exetremely well rounded tanks That can Hit really Hard but still last a few turns, Remeber Items are interchangable, 2 Ubers per 4 pokemon Double battle You have typical double battle move combinations, but apart from that, your movesets make your team look like a E4 stomp team. You have pure attacking sets - no recovery or stat boosts. You'll want to look up standard movesets on Smogon; keep in mind that serious opponents will be prepared for Earthquake abuse and weather. Additionally, I doubt Metagross will enjoy the sun boosting Fire damage. @Blaziken_boy: read the first post. |

As far as goes It won't be on the same team of 4 as I did look up smogon movesets but I made some changes Zapdos pairs very well with Groudon A) Groudon is immune to discharge, Zapdos is Immune to Earthquake B) Discharge has the high 30% paralyze rate, Which I think in doubles is a suitable replacement to thunder wave C) Discharge Hurts Flying Types That resist Earthquake D)Groundons moveset is from smogon except I replaced Stone edge with Rock slide because its a double battle Lugia is the one I really want some opinons on First Since it’s a double battle Blizzard is much more powerful than Ice beam, however It has fairly low accuracy, Icy wind Hits two foes and lowers speed but has the low Power, Ice beam is very reliable but it only hits one foe. Metagross Is also Smogon Based But look under the Other Options zone for its move pool I did switch Hammer Arm with Brick Break so I can tear down screens Giratina-O is smogon based as well substitute was replaced with stone edge or some other move like shadow sneak Togekiss is has swift because I can't get one with tri attack but since its a double battle Its still an OK replacement |

... D)Groundons moveset is from smogon except I replaced Stone edge with Rock slide because its a double battle My point is that your movesets specify all attacking moves, which is almost never used on anything but a Choice item set. But you aren't getting the benefits of Choice items, so you might as well take advantage of stat boosting moves like Swords Dance. In any case, you should try out your team against online opponents. |

PLease rate my team: Infernape Jolly 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP Life Orb Fake Out Blaze Kick Thunder Punch Close Combat Blissey Bold 252 HP, 252 Defense, 4 Sp. att. Leftovers Soft Boiled Heal Bell (will be, currently Defense Curl) Ice Beam Charge Beam Starmie Timid Choice Specs (maybe Choice Scarf?) 252 speed, 252 sp. attack, 4 HP Thunderbolt Psychic Hydro Pump Grass Knot (note: Thinking of replacing Grass Knot or Psychic w/ Ice Beam) World09 Weavile Jolly Focus Slash 252 speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP Night Slash Fake Out Ice Shard Brick Break That's the core of the team, and complete. I'm also working on the following - and want to make sure I get it right before I start: Red Metagross Brave Leftovers EV forcast: 252 attack, 252 HP, 4 Def. Meteor Mash Zen Headbutt Rest Sleeptalk Salamence Jolly ? Leftovers ? EV Forcast: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP Outrage Earthquake Crunch Fly (STAB + stalling). |

Post subject: | Re: The NEW Rating Center! Now with more pancakes! |
OK I'm going to rate you team labarith, and if technically only official raters are allowed to rate, sorry, I didn't see it in the rules! OK so here we go... Infernape is a good lead. The biggest change I'd make is from Life Orb to Focus Sash. Infernape is really fragile and especially after one or two uses with Life Orb, your health is going to guarantee 1hitKO's, plus once down to 1hp your Blaze will activate and get a lot more out of a fire move. Jolly works, but you already out-speed most bulky leads, so its tempting to switch to Adamant for more power. Fake Out works great of course. Blaze Kick is good with the chance of critical hit, but you can't depend on those odds, so it might be better to go with the more accurate Firepunch. ThunderPunch I would switch to a rock move that still has coverage over the flying type, but adds a few more as well. U-turn works as well to attack first and then get out of there considering his fragility. Infernape Jolly (if you want to risk it on the common slower leads, then switch to Adamant) 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP (perhaps 0 hp if focus sash) Life Orb (focus sash) Fake Out (delicious) Blaze Kick (firepunch is more reliable, but either is good) Thunder Punch (works, but its a tough call. U-turn/Stone Edge are potential other calls) Close Combat (absolutely) Blissey of course is a great asset to the team. Bold works of course, as does the EV spread. What is its ability? I'm assuming Serene Grace. Anyways I was going to immediately suggest Seismic Toss as soon as I saw it was missing, but I kind of like your plan here with Charge Beam slowly increasing special attack while taking hits and then inevitably become a big hitter. Blissey Bold (yup) 252 HP, 252 Defense, 4 Sp. att. (mhm) Leftovers (of course) Soft Boiled (necessary, but tempting to consider seismic toss) Heal Bell (OK) Ice Beam (right on) Charge Beam (clever!) Starmie's a good call of course, and I think Choice Scarf is preferable as you were considering it. Even though he's fast, Gengar is just as fast and Gyarados can get there in a couple of Dragon Dances. With Choice Scarf, Timid isn't absolutely necessary, consider Modest. EV spread is good, and move sets pretty good. If you replace anything with Ice Beam, which is important against the powerful dragons in OU, replace Grass Knot, but I don't think you should as you don't cover the annoying type combo Ground/Water typing, and of course Grass' other coverages. Finally, I was assuming Rapid Spin on this set considering you don't have it anywhere on your team, which could be a problem if someone exploits that of you, but it obviously doesn't work with Choice Scarf. Starmie Timid (possibly Modest) Choice Specs (yes, Choice Scarf) 252 speed, 252 sp. attack, 4 HP (good) Thunderbolt (mhm) Psychic (mhm STAB yay) Hydro Pump (I'd take surf, but its your call on risk) Grass Knot (mhm) Weavile. Looks more like another lead, but I suppose it works. Jolly good. EV's good. Only two I'd consider changing is Night Slash to Pursuit and Ice Shard to Ice Beam. Regarding Night Slash, the idea here is that Pursuit will knock out most ghosts and psychics in one move, especially if they decide to run of course. Then you get the serious STAB benefits from Ice Beam. It's tough to dedicate so much to speed in Weavile, yet have two moves in her set that go first regardless of speed. Weavile Jolly (yup) Focus Slash (focus sash you mean ) 252 speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP (standard) Night Slash (eh, perhaps Pursuit, but its a tough call) Fake Out (OK) Ice Shard (eh, Ice Beam) Brick Break (OK) Metagross is good. No point as far as I can see as to why you would pick Brave over Adamant. Leftovers is good, but Life Orb might be better since you already have the backup of Rest. EV spread is pretty good, but you might consider some in speed if you don't want the likes of Smeargle, Heatran, and Togekiss outrunning you. Moves look good. Metagross Brave (what? Adamant!) Leftovers (interchangeable with Life Orb) EV forecast: 252 attack, 252 HP, 4 Def (mhm, perhaps more speed) Meteor Mash (delicious) Zen Headbutt (OK) Rest (mhm) Sleeptalk (mhm) I think your Salamence is unique... But that doesn't make it good, just more unpredictable. I'd aim for Dragon Dance to replace the Fly, I don't care if its stall or STAB or anything, don't do it. It gives the opponent an extra move and you become 100% predictable on the next move. Leftovers is ok, but you could use a Lum Berry to cover crippling burns and confusion at the end of Outrage. Moves are pretty good aside from Fly. Salamence Jolly (OK) Leftovers (consider Lum Berry to counter confusion of Outrage) EV Forecast: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP (delicious) Outrage (right on) Earthquake (alright) Crunch (mhm) Fly (Dragon Dance) |

Post subject: | Re: The NEW Rating Center! Now with more pancakes! |
Thanks Ajit! I'm not sure if I want Infernape or Weavile as my lead - I'm glad you picked up on that. Infernape - I'm so going to go U-Turn on this guy - nice call. Similar base power, covers Dark and Psychic, and lets him get the fudge out of the there if need be. Blissey - Yeah, it's a G4 Blissey, so no seismic toss. Serene Grace + Charge beam = nice, but she still gets stomped by Salamence - we're talking 1 turn KO here. :/ But he might move to the Uber tier soon, so maybe I should train another 6th anyways... Starmie - Yeah, Choice Scarf, my bad. I know Stealth Rocks are all over the place, but I'm hoping it won't be TOO bad for me as I don't have many weaknesses to stealth rock. Might switch to surf, I need some more testing (When all is said and done, Hydro Pump is it's most powerful attack, but Surf is much more reliable...). On Weavile I like Ice Shard > Ice beam because, well, Ice Beam's a special attack and his sp. attack is pitiful. The quick attack factor's interesting too. But yeah, if he's not my lead, Focus Sash has to go! Metagross - I was hoping to use my event one - with RS IVs - rather than raise another one. Oh, well. I'm thinking of swapping it out for a different physical wall - we'll see. Thanks again! You've been of great help! |

Toegkiss @ Wise Glasses = Modest Serene Grace 255 SpAtk, 255 spread through other non-attack/speed stats Air Slash Roost Water Pulse Hyper Beam With Serene Grace WP has a 40% chance of confusing, and Air Slash a 60% chance of causing flinching (I think?) Dusknoir @ Sitrus Berry = Jolly Pressure 255 SpDef 255 Def Trick Room (or Pain Split) Attract (it's female) Confuse Ray Curse It supports most of my team's lack of speed. Electivire @ Muscle Band = Adamant Motor Drive 255 Atk 255 Def Fire Punch Ice Punch Thunder Punch Earthquake What do you call these...? Oh yeah. A physical sweeper. Roserade @ Big Root = Modest Poison Point 255 SpAtk 255 SpDef Giga Drain Leech Seed Grasswhistle Shadow Ball It's that thing you hate. Arcanine @ Shuca Berry = Quirky Intimidate 255 SpAtk, 255 SpDef Fire Fang Thunder Fang Return Roar It's that other Physical Sweeper. 15th century wrote: Before I post a team, I'm just wondering, are battle frontier teams allowed? I'm not really into competitive battling but there are a few ingame movesets I'm stuck on. Yes. Winning Battle Frontier requires a competitive team. LeoTheLion wrote: Hey guyysss. I HAVE A TEAM! and it's MIXED!
Metagross @ Occa Berry Adamant 252 Atk / 252 HP / 6 Spe Stealth Rock Bullet Punch Explosion Meteor Mash Hmm... Occa Berry or Wide Lens? With Occa I have all weaknesses covered, but my attacks won't always hit, especially with evasive Pokemon. The goal of lead Metagross is to set up Stealth Rock, do some damage, then exploded to take a weakened enemy with it. Wide Lens is almost never used on any pokemon. Toegkiss @ Leftovers Serene Grace Calm 252HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD Air Slash Roost Aura Sphere Thunder Wave With Serene Grace WP has a 40% chance of confusing, and Air Slash a 60% chance of causing flinching (I think?) Go with a more specially defensive build. Paralyze opponents, then flinch hax them (yes it is 60%) while Roosting / using Leftovers to heal. Dusknoir @ Leftovers Bold 252 HP / 28 Atk / 228 Def Pain Split Will-o-wisp Earthquake Ice Punch Dusknoir is best as a physical tank, able to take large amounts of damage while burning opponents and hitting them for a decent amount. A Trick Room team would be interesting, but you really need to build your entire team around Trick Room if you want to do that. Now you have a physical and special (sort of) tanks. Electivire @ [color=yellow]Life Orb / Expert Belt Motor Drive Adamant 252 Atk / 6 HP / 252 Spe Cross Chop Ice Punch Thunder Punch Earthquake What do you call these...? Oh yeah. A physical sweeper. Why would you put Def EVs instead of Speed on a physical sweeper? Anyways, this is an all-out physical sweeper; you'll want to get it a Motor Drive boost before using it. (Meaning you need a Gyarados or something that draws Electric attacks on your team). Roserade @ [color=yellow]Leftovers Natural Cure 252 Spe / 4 SpD / 252 SpA Substitute Leech Seed Spikes Sludge Bomb It's that thing you hate. Substitute / Leech Seed opponents to regain HP while constantly sitting behind a substitute. Don't bother with Grasswhistle, it's accuracy is too low. Your opponent will switch pokemon because of the Leech Seed; Spikes (and Stealth Rock from Metagross) will make him take damage every time he switches. If you take a status, switch out to Natural Cure it. Arcanine @ Shuca Berry = Quirky Intimidate 255 SpAtk, 255 SpDef Fire Fang Thunder Fang Return Roar It's that other Physical Sweeper. It has terrible IVs, but I learned that after I had raised it significantly. Should I start over? Arcanine is UU anyways, and you need a pokemon to draw electric attacks. Go with Gyarados: Gyarados @ Leftovers Adamant 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe Dragon Dance Taunt Waterfall Stone Edge This is the bulky Dragon Dance set. Switch in on a special wall, then Dragon Dance up. If your opponent switches in an Electric attacker, switch to Electivire to get Motor Drive and sweep. Otherwise, you can Dragon Dance a few times as you're bulky enough to take a few hits (Taunt enemies that try to status you). Okay so my team is mostly offensive but in my opinion has a good mix between Special and Physical. But I'm not the judge. Tell me whatchu think! After fixing the weird items and EVs, your team has some potential. Try it out on shoddybattle. |

Alright, this team is for the Battle Frontier on Heartgold. I have Emerald and Leafgreen, so I have access to the move tutors from there. I'm open to suggestions for other pokemon that might work better for the same role. The only thing I can't really do is get the trade evolution pokemon from Gen IV (Electivire, Rhyperior, etc.). I'm also not too concerned about team construction yet, since I'm still busy thinking about each individual pokemon. Suicune@Chesto Berry Bold, Pressure 252 Spd, 129 Sp Atk, 129 Def Surf Ice Beam/Shadow Ball Calm Mind Rest This is supposed to be a special sponge or a plain tank. Calm mind until HP is low, rest up, then attack. I don't know which secondary attack move to use. Ice beam hits grass but leaves water with little damage, Shadow ball hits both but isn't super effective against either. Umbreon@Leftovers Calm, Synchronize 252 Def, 252 Sp Def, 6 Hp Moonlight Double Team Toxic Confuse ray I know that BP is the standard Umbreon set, but I want an Umbreon that's solely a tank. I also don't care that I'll be excluded from society because of Double Team. :) Blissey@Leftovers Bold, Natural Cure 252 Def, 129 Hp, 129 Sp Def Softboiled Double Team Toxic Counter Not much to explain. Basically the same idea as Umbreon, with counter to take care of physical trappers. Because, unless I miss my mark, this folds to a normal attack Infernape before doing anything, right? Ajit wrote: Rapid Spinner/Defense Starmie @ Leftovers Natural Cure 156 def 216 spe 136 hp Rapid Spin Surf Thunderbolt Reflect Okay, why did you put the EVs into Defense over HP? Crunch is bad, and lightning punch is bad, but it seems to me that Dark Pulse and thunderbolt are just as bad if not much, much worse. If possible, I suggest Recover over Reflect, with 252 in HP, and then either do 252 in speed and 4 in def or sp. def, or just split the speed Evs between def. and sp. def. While we're on the subject, if all you're looking for is a good rapid spinner, you might as well go Blastoise - tough stats, has access to ice beam, rapid spin, surf (or better), and a third wild slot. Overall a nice team, I think. I have only a few reservations, and those might be from lack of metagame experience. |

Thanks labarith for reviewing. I'd like to start by saying yes, this team was made a while ago by me and usually doesn't do so hot in battle. Anyways ok Steelix I'm fairly positive can comfortably handle a maxed out EV physical attack from infernape (like Close Combat) and get at least stealth rocks off. If he's a special attack infernape, which is more rare, then fire blast or the like has a chance of a OHKO I think. I'm not sure where you heard Psychic was bad. Plus it gets STAB. Anyways lol yeah Dynamic Puncher isn't a "type" but I just that's just my personal name for what his job is on the team . Yeah my machamp struggles and I've since then removed one of his attacks and added Substitute. And for Starmie I much prefer the speed Starmie provides over Blastoise, and he can easily switch into something like Toxic Spikes, get poisoned, rapid spin, then run away and his Natural Cure will take care of the poison. I chose Defense because all of his weaknesses are MOSTLY physical aside from Electric which is almost always special. But yeah dark pulse can be tough. And yeah I need to get Recover in there over Reflect. Good call. |
