Post subject:  Can I use some of my favorites in competitive play?

I have been with the pokemon game series for a long time (since red and blue) but I have never got into competitive battling.

Im seriously thinking about it, but I don’t want to really use the ones that have the best stats just because they have the best. I want to use ones that I enjoy using. Without that competitive battling just does not seem fun to me if everyone will just use the same pokemon.

So here is a list of ones that I would actually like using. Would I even stand a chance of winning if I used some of the ones on my list? I don’t have to win much to be happy, I just don’t want to get blown out of the water all the time and have a chance to win. Would I be able to do that with:

Fearow
Clefable
Wigglytuff
Parasect
Venomoth
Victreebel
Dodrio
Exeggutor
Starmie
Scyther
Pinsir
Lanturn
Xatu
Sudowoodo
Jumpluff
Sunflora
Dunsparce
Qwilfish
Shuckle
Octillery
Swalot
Sharpedo
Grumpig
Crawdaunt
Claydol
Huntail
Relicanth

Could I use any combination of the above in competitive play? Im not planning on using these in exclusion of anything else, but I would like to include atleast a few.

Parasect - Bug type with limited moveset, no
Venomoth - Above
Victreebel - Too limited moveset
Dodrio - Maybe
Exeggutor - Maybe
Starmie - It's a good rapid spinner! Definitely!
Scyther - Yes!
Pinsir - I guess
Lanturn - Sure, but it needs to be a special sponge
Xatu - Maybe
Sudowoodo - NO. 0_o
Jumpluff - Uhm... See above.
Sunflora - See above, which states to see above.
Dunsparce - A good flincher
Qwilfish - Ehm... Not really....
Shuckle - Great Wall
Octillery - No
Swalot - No
Sharpedo - Maybe
Grumpig - No
Crawdaunt - No
Claydol - Maybe
Huntail - Underpowered
Relicanth - Under powered

Don't forget, you can fight in another tier instead of OU (Gyarados, Tyranitar, Starmie, Garchomp, that kinda thing). UU includes all kinds of pokes like Sudowoodo and would be great if you wanted to only use your favorites.

It is based on the moveset - teach them good moves (TMs & HMs).

If this is RSE, ignore all the comments on Stealth Rock
Fearow <<<Flying type=Stealth Rock own. Plus Stone Edge. And Many other Flying types can do what he can in RSE.
Clefable <<<I've seen an ownage Clefable before (CP/Softboiled/Sing/Sweep)
Wigglytuff<<<If you wanted to....
Parasect<<<Good luck not getting KOed
Venomoth<<<Good luck with this too
Victreebel<<<Good luck again
Dodrio<<<Not bad, considering it gets Drill Peck
Exeggutor<<<Why not? Sunny Day shall own, just avoid Skarm
Starmie<<<USE IT
Scyther<<<NO. Stealth Rock shall rip this thing up. (In RSE, he's not that bad, but PunchZam owns this thing)
Pinsir<<<Eh, why not.
Lanturn<<<Sure.
Xatu<<<I've seen one used effectively, so sure.
Sudowoodo<<<It's ok...
Jumpluff<<<Ice pwns you, and ever since Salamence and such started dominating, Ice started becoming popular, which means he'd basically die.
Sunflora<<<Eggy boy owns him at what he does.
Dunsparce<<<Meh. If you wanted.
Qwilfish<<<Dies to EQ.
Shuckle<<<Probably, you just need a bit of support or something.
Octillery<<NO. END OT TOPIC.
Swalot<<<Dies to EQ.
Sharpedo<<<Can you say Heracross? No, better, Gengar with T-Bolt or something. Just don't use him.
Grumpig<<<Nice for a CM Special Wall.
Crawdaunt<<<You could, but it'd be hard.
Claydol<<<Definitely. Awesome sweeper when used correctly
Huntail<<<For all I care you could, but like so many others, his stats don't match his moves well.
Relicanth <<<Not bad for a tank, but his moves leave some to be desired

Fearow I dont know.
Clefable Comes back with an amazing new possible Ability, Giving it much sweet sweet potential
Wigglytuff :?
Parasect *4 weakness to flying/Fire makes it vunerable with its pitiful speed.
Venomoth :?
Victreebel :?
Dodrio :?
Exeggutor :?
Starmie Great Speed, decent Sp Atk, and AMAZING crazy movepool, you can do almost anything you want with this fragile Beast.
Scyther Great speed, decent Attack, evolve it for lower speed, and higher everything else.
Pinsir Shunned compared to Heracross, but still pretty Badassed.
Lanturn :?
Xatu Unlickely this guy wont get powered.
Sudowoodo No.
Jumpluff No Way.
Sunflora Has some potential if you work with it...
Dunsparce SereneGrace+t-wave+Bite=Evil
Qwilfish Very seldom used...
Shuckle Overrated, Low HP makes it a poor Wall, can be a good Special Wall in a Sandstorm though
Octillery I dont know...
Swalot :?
Sharpedo Rare, VERY rare...
Grumpig :?
Crawdaunt :?
Claydol Quite common, its got good defences, spins, and sets up walls.
Huntail Dunno....
Relicanth *shrug*

Let me give you a Clefable moveset:

Clefable @ Life Orb
Magic Guard | Mild
252 SA, 129 SDef, 129 Atk
~Calm Mind
~Facade
~Thunderbolt
~Ice Beam

Now, here's the key; thanks to Magic Guard you aren't effected by LO recoil, (Toxic) Spikes, Burn, Poison, and Stealth Rock.

Calm Mind+BoltBeam is just lolz. Clefable can switch in Toxic (Spikes) or even Will-o-Wisp then do major damage with STAB LO Statused Facade, and best of all with no LO recoil and/or Toxic/Burn damage.

Gimme some time and I'll come up with useful movesets for all.
<s>Now you can come and insult me FaceLess <.< </s>

Well, they are also good, and they're not prohibited on competitive play.........
Sorry for not including movesets because they are so many...... Go visit the....I forgot the location...... Try that list of the standard D/P movesets.....

Anyway, try adding some Bellossom there.......

I think what welcomekanna was trying to refer to was smogon.com. Here's a link to the D/P Analyses:

http://www.smogon.com:81/dp/pokemon/

But they just underwent construction, so there will not be many entries.
