Hi everyone,

A few people have been asking why threads with rapid posts are locked for chill periods. This happens a bit in the Role Playing forum.

Role playing really shouldnt be a few people just repeatedly posting one line advancements of the story over and over. People should write bigger chunks to make the story better, and so people coming in to read the story dont have to scroll through multiple pages of one line responses.

The main reason for this is the database is gettin really quite big in terms of the number of posts. This makes the forums a lot slower. Many would have noticed that Private messages are now terribly slow to load. I'll explain this one further and make a friendly request.

When people send PMs it saves a copy to your outbox. It stays there until the person you sent it to has read it. It then moves into your sent items. Most people dont realise this box exists, and most of you will have 100% full sentboxes. Note: This is not anybodys fault. Its a feature of phpBB which can't be turned off. At the time of this post there were 17,399 private messages in the database. When you go to view your PM's the forum has to search through all of those to pull out yours. The larger that number, the slower it does so.

So here's the plea: Can you please check your PM's and delete any you don't want to keep. Only keep the ones you really need. You might also consider emptying your sentbox.

Could the role players also try to just ease back a bit on their posts. Try to make your posts longer and also give others a chance to take part rather than just two people being involved. With two people being involved you may as well just take your story to MSN messenger or something :P

Hope this speeds up the forums!

Cheers!
