Please do not join unless you are Gryphflame, Sneaky_Sneasel, or myself!

This is a continuation of First Pokemon RP, which takes place a year later in the region of Kanto. I have cleverly named it:

First Pokemon RP 2

Aren't I witty? (So, so witty!) Maybe later I'll think of something more creative, like Ye 'Ole Pokemon Trainer RP or something.

As for the 'no new charries' rule, that may change. It depends...

"Can this truly be Lavender Gym?" Sidney asked herself, gazing up at the old, decrepit mansion that was undoubtedly plagued with spirits. The young ninja had changed a lot over the past year. One notable feature was that her hair was longer, now flowing down to her shoulder blades. Her clothes had had an alteration too. She now wore black bicycle shorts and a tank top, with a white cloth wrapped around her waist like a skirt and held up with a thick belt. She still carted around a scarf, which she had loosely thrown around her neck, and a bandanna, kept snuggly tied around her head. She was older, wiser, and a much more experienced pokemon trainer. "And could he really be in there...?"

Sidney remembered it was a year ago--she, Cassius, and Michael had traveled together to her hometown of Fortree City to celebrate the completion of the pokemon temple. It had been an enjoyable journey and a memorable experience. Back then, she dreamed of returning to her childhood home of Fuchsia City in Kanto, and she finally got her chance. How excited she was when she first held the cruise tickets. It was an opportunity to catch new pokemon, meet old friends, and make new ones. And speaking of friends...

"Ginger?" Wasn't the absol right beside her? She turned around, her back to the creepy house, but her partner was nowhere in sight. And then she spotted them, two large, pink eyes peering back at her from inside a bush. "What are you trying to do, Ginger? Impersonate a tangela?"

The yin-yang colored pokemon slunk out of the bushes, her head low and her tail between her legs. "Absol abs absol sol... (There are ghosts here...)" she whimpered, her teeth chattering noisily.

"Come now. Let's go see our old friend Cassius," the trainer said cheerily. "You can show him your stuff."

"Ah, right. First we'll get pleasantries out of the way, and then we kick his butt. Gotcha."

Just a basic profile, nothing fancy.

Name: Michael Surge
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height: 5'8
Weight: 148 lbs.

"Well, this is it, Lavender Town. Of course I still have a bit of a way to go until I get to the Power Plant. That's where my dad said the legendary bird of Thunder resided. The questions is, can I catch it? Or should I even..."

The tennage mal clad in an army getup casually looked around through Lavender Town. He didn't plan to stay here for long, just for the night. Then he would go through Rock Tunnel, and Surf down to the Power Plant, where Zapdos was, supposedly.

"Hmm...didn't Cassius say he was a Gym Leader here? Ah, those were the good ol' days. Perhaps he's here, but where is the Gym," he thought as he went up to an old woman and asked her if she knew where the gym was. She told him and he thanked her, and they went on their way.

It was a matter of time until he first caught site of it, and a girl too, whi looked oddly familiar...

"Is it? Could it be? Nah...then again..."

Ginger took one long last look at the outside world before they were to plundge into the dark bowels of the mansion, most likely never to return. Chances were they'd probably get locked inside and starve to death, then be forced to join Cassius as his minions. The thought alone was too horrifying for words.

But before she turned to follow her trainer, she noticed Michael approaching them. "Oi, Sidney. Look who it is," the absol scoffed, nodding in the direction of the new arrival. "It's our old friend, Thunderhead."

Sidney, wondering what her pokemon was yammering about, slowly turned around. Wait. Could it be? "Michael! Oh, my... Is it really you?!"

Mike finally caught sight of the Absol, and knew for certain it was Sidney.

"Wow, Sidney, it really is you. I haven't see you in ages, well actually about a year, but still...anyway, this is the Gym, right? And you're going to fight Cassius for a badge? I wanted to fight him as well, but first come first serve I guess."

((Quick reply, 'little assuming you kept moving. I have to go for a bit, looong story >.<))

Right inside the ancient mansion, a pair of gastly were guarding the doorway. They were hidden, invisible and floating halfway inside the walls, keeping a close eye on the potential visitors. Cassius always said half of winning was keeping your opponent guessing, and in the gastly's eyes no one could keep someone on their toes better than their undead trainer. With a little help from them, of course.

As soon as the whole group finally managed to get themselves into the gym, the two slammed the doors shut, the boom echoing through the large entrance hall, which was its self an artistic arrangement of imported Victorian elegance and cobwebs. Carefully maintained, so it looked like it wasn't maintained at all, but didn't leak or get too moldy. One of the gastly boomed out a loud "Ahahahah!" for dramatic effect just as the echos were fading away.

"Gas, gastlygas gas? (Eeesh, overkill much?)" muttered the other.

"Gastly! (Was not!)" yelled the other, then looked ashamed.

"Gaaas, gastly gastly gastlygas, gastly. (Oooh, great job staying camouflaged there, idiot.)" The second rolled its eyes, and sank completely into the wall, with the other following sheepishly and hoping the humans hadn't noticed.

Ginger yelped, having a brief Scooby-Doo moment and jumping into Michael's arms. She then began sobbing hysterically, muttering some sort of indicernable garble. "I t-t-told yooou! N-now we're all gonna diiie!"

"Stop your belly-aching," Sidney commanded. "You don't need to worry. This is Cassius we're talking about. He's our friend. He won't let any harm come to us..." She spun around, trying to locate the source or the maniacal laughter.

"G-ghosts... I hate 'em..."

"Well, we can't go back," the girl noted. "Onward then!"

Mike didn't expect the Absol to jump into his arms, so he almost fell down while reacting to catching her. He soon let her down gently on the floor.

"Right, we shouldn't waste any time. Who knows what goes on in here."

((Let me know if my descriptions of the mansion are contrary to what you want, Gryph.))

"I say we take the stairs," Sidney suggested. "Chances are, he's on the top floor. That's how it always is in the video games anyway." She gave the other trainer an innocent shrug, then turned to dash up the stairs in the far back of the enormous, highly decorated entrance hall. The stairs were wide and swept upward, splitting into two different directions. The steps were covered with a long, dusty, russet-colored rug, and they creeked loudly with each step the trainer took.

Ginger smiled sheepishly at Michael, feeling embarrassed for behaving like a scaredy cat (well, she was kind of a cat). I can't show fear, she thought to herself. That's exactly what they want! Determined not to be afraid, the absol puffed out her fluffy, white chest and strutted up the stairs after Sidney.

"Yup, most likely," he agreed, following Sidney up the stairs while cautiously looking around for anything suspicious.

"Besides the cliche self closing door and manaical laughter, nothing seems amiss."

Coming up on the fork, the ninja stopped to think. "We need to split up," she said after the long pause. "There's two doors. Either of them could lead to Cassius."

"Why do these gym leaders take such joy in making us actually work to get to them?" the absol complained. "Isn't walking all the way here enough? Sheesh!"

"You take the left," she told the lightning trainer. "I'll take the right." And with that, Sidney and her pokemon marched up the stairs, away from Michael.

Mike nodded in agreement, and proceeded to take the stairs that went left. The next floor wasn't much except a long hallway that led to another door. He started walking down the hall, but it did not look like he was getting any closer. He ran this time, but still, it looked like he hadn't moved.

"This doesn't look good...but what in the world is going on? Is this some wacked out illusion or something?" he asked to no one in particular.

Cassius was not, at the time of their entrance, on the top floor of the highest tower, nor was he ready at the central ballroom where battles were held. He was, in fact, trying to sleep in. Blasted trainers always come around during the day he thought, rather used to a nocturnal activity schedule while living amongst ghosts.

Visiting trainers saw less than a third of the mansion during their brief stay, despite being carefully lead through dozens of hallways and rooms by the "welcome ghosts" on a short goose chase, before eventually being released into the arena. Thus, Cassius had plenty of time to get ready, and plenty of private space in which to find his way to the arena without running into a trainer on his way.

"One guy, maybe in his late teens. Military guy, sorta tough looking, but dunno how bright." The second gastly from the door reported to the gymleader as he changed from decidedly un-menacing pajamas into his usual grey suit. His hair, thankfully, needed no work, it already hung in its usual haunteresque spikes. "The other one's a girl, older by at least a few years. Looks pretty athletic, traveling with a scaredy cat absol."

Cassius paused at that, a little surprised by the description. It reminded him of a pair he'd met a year or so ago, while traveling in Hoenn. But they didn't even travel together, normally. Just a strange coincidence that a pair of similar trainers showed up at my gym.

"Split them up, if you can. Send the kid down hallway three, the one where you have to walk backwards. The other one can take hallway four. No, wait, Pan's on haunted portrait duty... warn him not to attack the absol, you know how he can get." The gasly nodded and zipped off, ignoring the walls, to inform the mansion staff of the plans.

When Sidney pushed through the door, she found herself in a hall similar to the one Michael was stranded in, except various portraits lined the walls. "How amazing," she said quietly, admiring the breathtaking (and somewhat surreal) artwork.

As she was staring appraisingly at the pictures, there was a loud sound--the slamming of a door? And then... Click! She spun around, the absol, who was sitting beside the door, blinking dumbfounded at her. " Abs absol abs. (It wasn't me.)" she told her, moving away from the possessed portal.

Sidney swiftly made her way back, fighting with the handle. "Darn! Locked..." She moved away, slightly miffed about all these self-locking doors. "I guess we keep going forward..." She turned back and made her way down the hall.

Ginger remained at her heels, casting quick glances to the hanging portraits. Was it her, or were they getting creepier and creepier the farther they walked? One in particular caught her eye. It was a headless knight on a demonic looking rapidash. On closer inspection, Ginger noticed he held what appeared to be a skull in one arm...with pointed fangs and glowing red eyes. The skull winked at her. "Aiiieeeee!"she shrieked. "Sidney! Sidney, it winked! This room is alive!"

"RAAAR!" moaned one of the paintings, a particularly stern looking gentleman in a military uniform, accompanied by a ferocious looking Persian. "Aaauuuuu-aunt, haunt haunt haunter? (Aaaauuuu-hey, don't I know you?)" it continued. The military man looked puzzled for a moment, then a purple face emerged.

"(Wow, it really is you! Why didn't you tell us you were coming? You could've used the back door, y'know, we don't usually bother putting friends through all this. Well, maybe some friends.)" He grinned, and managed to copy his trainer's trick of making his eyes glow red.

Sidney was startled by the sudden commotion and quick to react, assuming a defensive pose. But then she saw that it was just a pokemon, and she slowly let her guard down. "It's...a haunter." But not Cassius. Still, the ghost looked oddly familiar. "Pandora...?

Ginger was having a near heart attack. It took her a good few seconds to calm her nerves...but then she realized who the floating pokemon was, and they became frazzled again. "(Yoooou,)" she said slowly and sinisterly, narrowing her eyes. "(I should've known! That's just so typical of you ghosts!)"

"(And it's typical of you dark types to fall for it every single time)" he replied, sticking out his tongue. But he was pretty friendly about it, and he nodded to Sidney. "(I'll get you guys through to Cass, if he's made it to the main room by now.)" At least it was a reasonable day out, he wouldn't be lying about for ten minutes complaining it was too cold to get up.

He floated through the hallway, where the paintings had mostly stopped moving (well, a few still looked on after them, but they were being much less menacing about it. The hallway led into a large circular room, with six foot tall paintings hung on every wall. Pandora led them to one of a ghostly looking young woman, with pale skin and white lace and a distant look in her sea-blue eyes. "(I'm really s'posed to recite a riddle here, but I'll just skip that.)" He reached a claw in behind the frame, and pulled it back, revealing a door behind the portrait, which seemed to lead to a torch-lit secret passageway.

"He sure does take his puzzles seriously, doesn't he?" Sidney noted, brushing her fingers along the stone walls of the medieval-esque passage. "Most gym leaders do. But instead of switches, slides, or teleporters, he'd rather scare everyone away." She laughed out loud to show that she was only kidding.

Ginger's expression hadn't changed since they left the haunted hallway, the absol still glowering, staring at the back of Pandora's head through slits. Who knew what ominous thoughts were stirring inside her skull--most likely plotting the demise of both haunters...if that were even possible.

"(Oh ho ho. Aren't you a riot...)"

"Cassius!" Sidney shouted back. She wanted to run up and hug him, but she wasn't sure how polite that would be...seeing as the dead had their own perceptions of 'proper manners' that differed from those of the living.

"(Hey, there, Senor Fantasma!)" Ginger said loudly with a cheeky grin. "(I'm back for that rematch! You still owe me a fight, I hope you know!)"

"Cass, you won't believe it," Sidney continued. "Michael is here too. He showed up around the same time we did. Kinda...creepy, no?" She paused, looking around. Where was the other trainer anyway? "He must still be stuck back at the puzzles."

"(Knowing what sort of pea-sized brain he has inside his head, it'll probably take the combined efforts of all his pokemon to figure it out. And even that might not be enough.)"

"Ugh, at this rate, I'll never get to the stupid door. Unless...," he had a stroke of genius, at least according to him.

"If I walk backwards, maybe it'll let me walk's worth a shot." he shrugged as he turned around, and proceded to walk backwards. Sure enough, it was working, and in time, he made it to the door, turned back around and opened it, to find....another hallway.

"Not again..." he moaned, and turned around and walked backwards once again, and reached the door, opened it to find Sidney and Cassius.

"You guys are the real Sidney and Cassius, right? Not just illusions or whatever," he asked.

Most of Cassius' little following floated, walked or scurried off as he approached the other trainer, apparently finished with their business or giving up on getting picked. Before he could reply to her, though, Mike managed to break through the mirror puzzle, appearing through a door (not a hidden one, this time, just an ordinary door) a few feet over from where Sidney had entered.

"Well, that is a little strange" he admitted. Maybe not creepy (his standards for "creepy" were set pretty high) but definitely quite a coincidence. "And don't worry, Mike, there aren't many illusions in this house." Maybe a few slight distortions, but most of the mansion was very much real, albeit exceedingly haunted.

"(First come, first serve, buddy,)" was the dark pokemon's sarcastic response to Michael's question. "(You said it yourself. Besides, we made it here first and I've been waiting a looong time for this moment...)" Oh, yes. I'll have that ghost kissing my feet after I'm through with him, she thought evily.

"Ah, right. We're both here to win badges," the girl told Cassius, giving him a small smile. She then turned to face the army kid. "But, seeing as Ginger and I got here first, we should be the first to battle. And I doubt two-on-two battles are allowed here."

"(Alright!)" Ginger cheered, already taking her place on the arena. "(Shall we dance, ghosty?)"

"Ginger, not yet," her trainer told her calmly. "I'm saving you for last..."

"(Wha...?! W-wait!)" the absol whined. "(C'mon! I can take him on by myself! Just let me at 'im!)"

"Ginger. Over" Her trainer's voice was stern as she annunciated each word. The absol reluctantly obeyed, muttering to herself as she wandered back over to her trainer, flopping down at her feet.

"Abina, go!" Sidney called, flinging one of her pokeballs out onto the field. The enormous flygon burst from her container, circling around the glittering chandelier before ungracefully flumping onto the marble ballroom floor. The glutton of a dragon was still as plump as ever, her round and bulging belly nearly smothering her feet. But despite her obvious obesity, Sidney's pokemon looked ready for battle, a strident bellow escaping her throat that echoed throughout the hollow mansion.
