"(Well, you are kinda carting around a human body if you haven't noticed...)"

"Actually, the food's not just for me," the dark haired girl revealed. "It's for my pokemon too. And I've put Abina on a diet recently, so any place that serves garden salads or other greens would be a plus." She paused, considering the options. "But this is your lunch too, after all. I'm sure the other places serve non-deadly stuff, otherwise they'd be out of business."

"(Think they have fruit salad?)" the absol asked, looking hopeful. "(I love me my fruits. Veggies are blech though.)"

Which would give them a valid excuse, if they didn't know what I really was. They did, and what really annoyed Cassius was how they treated two hundred years of training and sacrifice and a cool parlor trick.

"I'd suggest we walk a block over, then. The food's better, really, and these three will be a little disappointed if they dine at one of the tourist places." The three ghosts he'd battled with did seem to expect food, and were eyeing the restaurants with a critical eye.

"(Fruit? Who eats fruit at a restaurant?)" said the dusclops.

"(Yea,)" added the shuppet, "(we'll show you where all the good stuff is on the menu.)"

"(You guy better not poison me,)" Ginger warned, smirking, "(or expect another shadow ball in the face, all of you. Besides, if I die, I'll probably come back as a gastly and drive you all crazy for eternity.)" Although, the thought of turning into something she long reviled made her shudder a bit.

Sidney looked back to see the grumpy absol being swarmed with ghost pokemon, and couldn't help but chuckle. "Nice to see she's finally getting along with her otherworldly friends," she sighed. "Ginger, I mean. She used to be so terrified of ghosts." But the young girl didn't know if that was more of a compliment in the gym leader's eyes, for others to be afraid of them.

((Bah, I'm probably ignoring time here. ><;; ))

The absol mimicked the little shuppet, twisting her head around and sticking her tongue out at the cheeky haunter. But she hadn't been paying attention to what was in front of her and collided with a sign pole, getting flung back a few feet. "(Although,)" she groaned as she sat up, rubbing her head, "(the phasing through walls bit would be pretty nifty.)"

"Ah, is this the place?" Sidney stopped in front a rather spooky restaurant (probably made to look as such on purpose) and began fidgeting with the balls on her belt, proceeding to release her pokemon one by one.

"Medichaaam! (Cassius!)" Lulu squealed when she caught sight of ghost trainer, hobbling over to him. "(Never thought I'd see you again. Has Ginger been treating you nicely so far?)"

Taro stayed close to Sidney, watching the three ghosts with mild interest, and Abina chattered loudly with Suzaku, the blaziken. The ninja's mightyena, Rex, wandered over to accompany Ginger. "(Hey there, doll,)" he chuckled. The absol responded by rolling her eyes.

"Yep, this is it. (And it's nice to see you again too, Lulu.) You know, I never had a chance to ask what you've been up to this past year. Aside from starting to compete in the indigo league, of course." Both trainers were after his badge, so they were probably collecting them from the indigo league.

The shuppet giggled at Rex. "(You've got a fan club too, just like Cassius!)" he said. Cassius had to smile upon overhearing that.

"Oh, I'll let you know all about what I've been up to after we've all been seated," she told him, ushering her pokemon through the door. Abina, Lulu, and Suzaku all obeyed, but Taro wouldn't leave her side. Ginger and Rex were still busy conversing with the three other pokemon.

"(A fan club, eh?)" Rex turned his gaze upward, seeming to consider this. "(That ain't a bad idea.)"

"(Don't listen to them,)" the absol spat. "(But, actually...I probably am cool enough to have my own fan club. I'm one tough kitty, as I no doubt proved earlier.)" The last bit was aimed at the ghosts, and Ginger turned to walk away. The handsome mightyena who had been sitting beside her frowned, and then scampered to catch up.

"(Trust me, it's more trouble than it's worth)" said Cassius, passing Ginger to take a seat on the other side of the table. One of the waiters recognized him, and hastily gave out menus, then scurried off to tell someone they had important guests.

A lot of the items on the menu did have rather menacing names, and many had a little skull emblem beside the description. Cassius flipped through to the back, where there was a page-long section entitled "For Pokemon". The two ghosts that could float peered over his shoulder to read, while the Dusclops waited until they were finished and she could have a look.

Mike had been staying slient the entire way to the resturant, which wasn't normally like. Perhaps it was the eerie feeling he had about the town, or maybe it was just in his head. He quietly entered the restaurant and sat down a several seats across from Cassius to make room for his Pokemon. One by one, Mike called them out from their Pokeballs, taking them from his velcro belt.

A few moments later, 5 of Mike's familiar Pokemon came out; Static, Lighthouse, Kaboom, Proton, and Shockbox. There was one unfamilar face, which was a Magnamite.

"I'm sure you are all familiar with these 5, but here is a new face. His name is Circuit." The Magnamite responded with calm and friendly beeps, most likely greeting everyone.

"(Pleased to make your acquaintance)" said Cassius politely, nodding to the new pokemon. He handed his weapon down to Dusclops, having decided rather quickly what he wanted to order. One of the waiters brought tall glasses of water for the two humans, water dishes for the pokemon, and a glass of something greenish-purple that smelt like a herb garden mixed with rat poison for Cassius.

((Woo! Long and rambly! XD))

"(What's that you got there? A cup o' steaming snot?)" Ginger asked mockingly, making her way around the table and taking a seat next to her favorite ghost trainer in all the world. Disregarding proper etiquette for the time being, the darkling leaned over, taking a big whiff of the toxic fumes. "(Oh! Ick! Ew! Gross!)" She moved away quickly, pinching her nose between two claws. "(How can you drink that?! Smells like...Raid mixed with dirty socks!)"

Just at that moment, Rex pulled up in the chair right of her. He decided not to say anything, but flashed her an uneasy grin anyway, which the absol didn't catch because she had buried herself in her menu. "(Oh, lookie here. They do serve fruit salad. Well, I know what I want.)" She flipped the booklet shut and pushed it down the table to whoever else needed one.

Sidney had claimed the spot next to Rex, Taro occupying her other side, wanting to stick close. Lulu sat beside the young marowak. Next was Suzaku, and then finally Abina.

"Pleased to meet you, Circuit. And it's good to see all of you again," Sidney said politely to Michael's team before telling the waiter her orders. "Two baked potatoes, one for me and my marowak here. The mightyena wants barbequed ribs, the absol will have a fruit salad, smoked salmon for the medicham, hot wings for the blaziken, and a fresh garden salad for the flygon."

Abina's head drooped, her wings sagging. She had hoped that her trainer would let her break her diet on this special occasion, just this once. "(Psst! Hey, don't worry,)" Suzaku whispered to her out of the corner of his mouth. "(I'll let you try a few of my wings.)" The flygon smiled gratefully.

Cassius ignored Ginger and took a sip of the suspicious beverage, which seemed to fizz a little like a soft drink. "Sure you don't want to try a little, Ginger? It's very good, and not nearly as toxic as it looks." A sip might give her some minor indigestion, but not much of what Cassius ate could actually kill a human.

The three ghosts conveyed their orders to Cassius, who requested the three dishes, and a stir fry dish for himself. He'd chosen from the human menu, although it was one of their more dangerous dishes, despite Lavender restaurants being used to their gym leader's preference for pokemon food.

"(I'll pass, thanks...)"

"So you wanted to hear what I've been up to since last we met," Sidney said after stacking the menus together, returning them to the polite waiter. The young man bowed courteously to the table before leaving to turn in their orders. "Well, most of it is rather standard. I wandered around a bit, did a bit of training. It wasn't until I decided to enter a tournament while passing through Slateport that things really started to get exciting.

"First prize was cruise tickets to Vermilion City. Long story short, we won. It was a hard victory, since we almost tied with the other finalist, both of us down to our last pokemon. Anyway, a week later Hoenn was miles behind us as we set course for Kanto. The first thing I did when we got here was visit my childhood home. Fuchsia City, you remember?" She stopped, taking a drink of her water.

"I met my old martial arts instructor, Koga. We talked a bit, and then he challenged me to a pokemon battle to see how strong I had become. After I defeated him, he told me that I had potential to probably compete in the Indigo League. The rest, as they say, is history."

"(She's been wanting to come see you for some time,)" Ginger muttered to Cassius before noisily lapping up her water.

"You've been quite busy" he said, impressed. "Last I heard Koga was still a licensed gym leader, so that's at least two badges so far. As much as I hate to admit it, Sabrina's probably your next stop" She and Cassius were not on great terms, probably because they were rather alike, and both vying for the position of creepiest Kanto gymleader.

"Or you could head through the rock tunnel to Cerulean, if you want to go the long way around. Will you be staying long in Lavender? There are a few guest rooms in the mansion, if you need a place to stay." It would be disappointing to have her and Mike leave so soon after a reunion, although they both seemed to have plenty of places to go.

"Really?!" the young woman replied to the other's offer, unable to mask her excitement. "Are you certain?" A night in a haunted mansion? How wonderful! Ginger, though, didn't look as thrilled as her trainer. On the contrary, she look rather ill (perhaps the fumes from Cassius' drink were getting to her). A night in a haunted mansion? How horrible! No doubt all the ghosts would keep them awake, what with their haunting and other nocturnal activities.

The mightyena beside Ginger couldn't help but notice his friend's change in status. "('Ey, you don't look too good, hun,)" he said, concerned.

"(That's what I've been saying about you all along,)" she managed to come back with, even in her sickly state. But the mightyena was used to her cheek and took no offense.

"I spent twelve years in Kanto, but never really got to see much of it," Sidney admitted, appearing a bit ashamed. "I really don't know where I should go next. Where are you headed, Michael?" As long as the other trainer wasn't set due south, perhaps they could travel together for a short while.

" be honest, I didn't plan on staying here for too long. I'm heading off to the abandoned Power Plant on the other side of Rock Tunnel, to battle and maybe even catch Zapdos if I'm lucky. But seeing you all again, I may want to reconsider, and travel with you guys for a while, just like old times."

After Mike's little speech, the waiter came over to him and his Pokemon, and Mike gave him the orders for him and his Pokemon: a large plate of Hot Wings for everyone to share, a fruit salad for Lighthouse (being the vegitarian he is), and a strip steak for Mike. Mike a lot of Pokeblocks in his backpack, so Circuit's meal was set as well.

Cassius fell quiet at the mention of Zapdos.

"Zapdos, the thunder bird?" Sidney remembered hearing something about the rare pokemon from another traveling trainer. It was supposed to be one of three legendary birds. The thought of just seeing such an unusual and powerful pokemon made the girl's heart race. "It's settled then," she said, smiling. "We pass through the rock tunnel."

Ginger, who had just finished off her water, looked up at Cassius, dabbing her mouth with her napkin in a very human-like fashion. "(Aw, you're such a kidder,)" she giggled, prodding the trainer in the ribs with one claw. "(For a second, I almost believed you. How sweet of you, trying to make me feel better.)"

"(I could whip your tail any day of the week, pal,)" the absol snapped, her playful poking turning into hard jabs. "(You just name the time and place. I'll be there.)" Wow! A battle against the notorious Cassius, possibly the strongest ghost pokemon of their time. If she won, it would mean she was the best of the best. She could probably endure one night in a haunted mansion.

Rex couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer, and he leaned close to the absol. "(He's strong, y'know,)" he said quietly into her ear. "(He beat Lulu'n I in a two-on-one battle. I know you think you're tough, but you're not--)"

"(Not missing my chance to defeat the most notorious ghost pokemon in all the world,)" Ginger finished for him. "(I should get my own personal badge, just for that.)" That wasn't a bad idea. Ginger turned back to Cassius and blurted, "(Do I get a badge if I beat you?)"

"Tonight, then" he said, still in human for Sidney's benefit. He caught the absol's paw in a thin wisp of nightshade before she poked a hole in his shirt, taking a sip from his noxious drink with the other hand. "(But you'd better worry about beating me before you start thinking about badges.)" Okay, maybe he wouldn't go too easy on her, Ginger's ego was probably inflated enough for one visit.

"(Tonight it is.)" She made a face, withdrawing her paw and shaking the vines off.

Lulu, who had been listening to Abina and Suzaku's discussion over two-on-two battle strategies, suddenly found herself drawn to the conversation being held across from her. She pushed herself away from the table, hurrying over. "(Am I hearing this correctly?)" she inquired, pushing her way between Ginger and Rex. "(You're thinking of taking on Cassius by yourself? Are you crazy?)"

"(What if I am?)" she responded. "(I can handle myself. You're not my mother, Lu.)" The black and white pokemon turned her back to her friend. The medicham sighed, then made a slow journey back to her chair. "(Oh, good! Food's here!)" Ginger exclaimed, already forgetting the pair's words of warning as their waiter returned with their orders.

Lighthouse chuckled after taking a couple sips of water. "The Absol is still as crazy as ever." The waiter then came over and placed all of Mike's and his Pokemon's food on the table. Lighthouse quickly proceeded to eat his fruit salad, keeping an eye on Ginger, almost expecting another one of her lame veggie jokes

Shockbox nodded in agreement. "It's no contest; the Absol vs. Cassius, it's obvious." He then took a hot wing in each hand and proceeded to chow down.

"Now don't be so sure. Isn't Dark super effective on Ghost types or something like that," Circuit inquired.

"(If you die in the fight, you can share my room under the third floor stairs)" suggested the shuppet, trying to be helpful. He and the other three ghosts all had food that looked pretty appetizing, but smelt worse than Cassius' drink.

Cassius had a stir-fried mixture of vegetables over a plate of rice, topped with five pointed nightshade flowers. He sprinkled it liberally with the contents of a bottle on the table marked "CAUTION: this seasoning is toxic in large quantities. Use sparingly." Leaving Ginger to her friends' warnings, he addressed Sidney. "Ginger and I would like to battle this evening, if you don't mind staying up a little late."

"(The magnemite is smart,)" Ginger pointed out, stacking a few slices of fruit onto one claw like a shish-ka-bob before stuffing it all into her mouth. "(And I won't be moving in any time soon.)" It would be a miracle if anyone could understand that, considering the absol's mouth was quite packed with food.

"Stay up late? Not at all." Sidney spread open her potato so she could begin adding sour cream and bacon, Taro doing the same. "I'm certain that would make Ginger happy. Well, more happy." The absol's head still hadn't had time to deflate since their victory earlier.

Suzaku checked to see if Sidney was looking, and then dumped three or four hot wings onto Abina's salad, the dragon hurriedly covering them with a few slices of lettuce.
