A new RP from the Cutlet. Hope you join. By the way, this RP was based on the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud, and it was originally Bartimeus' idea. Credit to him!

Name: Bartimaeus Trilogy RP

Genre: Action/Magic/Demons etc.

Location: Magician-controlled London, in an uncertain time.

Rules: Spelling please! And grammar! A mangled post makes a mangled story. Also all requests to join must be PMed directly to me along with a character. If I accept you then you must post your character profile along with your first post.

Recent History: After a recent failure to conquer North America, the English Empire has been stretched for resources and Magicians and Commoners (non-magicians) alike are beginning to lose faith in their country. Then, less than a month after the English army was pushed out of New York, the Prime Minister died of unknown causes. As a reaction to this sudden death, several prominent figures in Magical society attempt to take the proverbial throne, and this sent the whole of the English empire, including London, into subdued anarchy. First to attempt to come into power was Mr. John Mandrake, a 26 year old man, who was incredibly loyal to the government and it's system. John Mandrake is a very powerful magician, who had a key role in foiling several large scale attempts of toppling the english government. He also conrols the famous "Gladstone's Staff" which has the power to launch incredibly powerful magical bolts at his enemies. He is the leader of the Loyalist faction, which is attempting to rebuild the former government.

Another person attempting to come into power is the leader of the Patriot faction, Samuel Hunt. He is a weak magician, but he is very good at manipulating others. Also he owns the famed "Amulet of Samarkand" which protects its wearer from most forms of magic. The Patriots also want to restore the government, but in a completely different form. A straight out Totalitarian state. The believe that government of this form would allow the Magicians more power and would keep the commoners in check.

The third is Ms. Jane Farrar, leader of the Enforcers. This group is formed out of the former Police Department, known as the Night Police. They were a group of non-magical werewolves, who managed to keep the commoners in a permanent state of fear. The Enforcers have few magicians, but more than make up for it with their large army of werewolves and their powerful leader, Jane Farrar. She is incredibly competent, and is rumoured to be able to control at least two djinn at once (not any easy feat, one Djinn alone can be hard, let alone two or an afrit).

The commoners are also rising up in the anarchy caused by their leader's death. Though many remain subservient to the Magicians, there is a small group of special Commoners called The Resistance who fight the Magicians openly. They cannot conrol demons, but some have special powers (such as being able to see demons, sense magic, or resist magical attacks). They often steal magical items or weapons from the Magicians to use in the fight.

Now London is in a state of war, and most people are afraid for their lives. They can go out their businesses as normal, most of the time, but if you stumble into enemy territory then you're going to get yourself killed. But rarely are there full scale battles, though a random skirmish comes along once in a while.

Things you should know:

For demons: Demons have five different levels, from weakest to strongest: Imp, Foliot, Djinn, Afrit, Marid. You can be any of these types, up to a low-level Afrit. Medium to high level demons have the ability to change form. But while in a form in the human world their essence begins to ache. Transforming can alleviate this for a while, but it only works temporarily. Also any orders that a demon is given can not be avoided, but only if the order is given while both the Demon and Magician are in seperate pentacles. This does not mean that demons have no mind of the own, in fact quite the opposite. They all have very different personalities and are quite fun to RP. I'm just trying to say that I'd like it if people who join aren't only Human. I want some demons too.

For Magicians: They have special lenses which allow them to see into the first three plains and vaguely into the forth. There are unlimited plains, but the furthest most thigns go into are the seventh. Higher level demons have the power to keep their form on all plains, whereas lesser ones often only have the power to keep it up to lower ones. On plains where they are not keeping their form, their true state is revealed.

Character Creation:

Species: (Human or Demon, please specify which sort of the five types of demons)
Affiliation: (For humans this is which faction you belong to, out of The Loyalists, the Patriots, the Enforcers, and the Commoners. For demons this is the affiliation of your master)

Appearance: (For demons you can just specify your favourite form, most dmeons have them)
Brief History: (For demons this can be past crusades from many thousands of years ago. Commoners can show their childhood, previous run-ins with magicians. Magicians can show their previous punishments of commoners, their childhood, how they got involved in the war in London, or pretty much anything)
Special Powers: (For Commoners only. Has to be something to do with demons or magic, but nothing like "Can shoot Death Rays from eyes and fireballs from fingertips. Keep it as somethign passive)
Special Items: (Amulets or Talismans, for example. Mr. Mandrake has Gladstone's staff, which os a special Talisman. Talismans have an active power, like shooting bolts of fire at a command, whereas Amulets have passive ones, like warding off magic)

As proof that you read this, when you post your character I want you to tell me the five forms of demons and the four human affiliations, m'kay? I'll post my profile when at least one other person posts theirs. And remember, all credit for this RP goes to Mr. Bartimeus.

Yay! A joiner!

Name: Jakob Faust
Age: Mid-to-late twenties
Species: Human
Affiliation: Loyalist

Appearance: Brown hair, very fair skin. Wears a dark suit most of the time and a small, unremarkable white mask that covers the the top half of his face
Personality: Mysterious, a man of few words. When in public he keeps to himself most of the time, which he thinks is very suave and debonair. Enjoys having demons around, mainly for a bit of light conversation
Brief History: Was originally working as a spy in Prague under the command of Ms. Jessica Whitwell until both her and the Prime Minister died. He immediately returned to London and began to work, still as a spy, for Mr. John Mandrake, former apprentice of Ms. Whitwell. Until recently he was the master of 10th level Djinn, Smollik, until the demon was killed in Prague.

Special Powers: None
Special Items: A small ruby, heart-shaped talisman, set in gold. He keeps it on a gold chain wrapped around his wrist. When he says the command, several powerful Afrits contained in the jewel begin to heal the owner and give him energy. But as this happens the ruby begins to fade, until eventually it becomes as clear as a diamond. It takes about three days for the ruby to charge up to full strength again.

Jakob Faust was walking down the street, deep in thought. He was in Loyalist territory on the east side of the Thames, luckily, and so he didn't have to be on his guard. Suddenly there was a small chuckle behind him, which interrupted his train of thought. A small, jet black, green-flaming Foliot, who reached only up to Jakobs knee, snickered and looked back into Jakobs eye. "Jakbis!" Jakob hissed, "what are you doing! I told you not to follow me around when we're in this area."

The Foliot shrugged and studies it's non-existent nails. Jakob shrugged and snapped his fingers. Jakbis disappeared in a ball of green, rather noxious, flame. Jakob straightened up and nodded to a small group of late-teen female apprentices on the other side of the road, who giggled and went back inside. Jakob began to walk again. I need a good Djinn, one who won't annoy me like Jakbis does. One who has a good personality, who will respect me and carry out my orders dutifully. A name sprang into Jakob's mind, and he sprang into action.

He ran all the way back to his riverside apartment (very spacious) and went into the summoning room. A pair of perfectly drawn pentacles were already on the perfectly flat floor. He jumped into the smaller of the two pentacles and muttered the summoning incantation. At the right moment he said the name tah the had read in several books, a name that he had been pondering summoning ever since Smollik had died.

The feeling swept over me strongly, piercing my essence and causing me immense discomfort. I was being summoned. Sighing, I gave in to the pull and felt myself sucked into the human realms. I made my choice of form carefully - a first impression with a new master was always important. Settling on a form, I spread myself around the pentacle in a sheet of glistening smoke and steam before the steam and smoke faded to reveal a girl.

It was my preferred form, but I was able to adapt it to create different effects. Today the dark-skinned girl sprouted two long golden wings from her back, and her clothes were that of a long beige robe, draped casually over my her shoulders. Just for the heck of it I added a long tail, which I whipped around slowly. Raising my head I looked out of the pentacle and surveyed my new master.

Jakob laughed at the "spooky" effects of the Djinn appearing, then took on a more relaxed pose than the straight-backed summoning one he was taught as a child. He looked the Djinn straight in the eye, or at least its form's eye, and said, "Djinn, what is your name? Are you truly Serrevia, servant of Babylon, and soldier of Sumeria?"

(( Had to think of some ancient place for you to have done your work ))

So, imp, foliot, djinn, afrit, marid; Loyalists, Patriots, Enforcers, Commoners.

Name: Andraa
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Species: Human (werewolf)
Affiliation: The Enforcers

Human Appearance: Average height; Shoulder length, black hair; Yellow eyes (not like jaundice, but more golden); Canines (teeth) are more pointed than normal, but otherwise, looks fairly normal
Wolf Appearance: Head about waist height of an average person; black fur; gold eyes

Personality: She can be rather moody--sometimes lashing out at someone she was just talking to nicely. Her temper can be quick, but it isn't always. In other words, she's not very predictable. She is extremely loyal to her friends and those who have earned her respect.

Brief History: Andraa was born to a commoner family in London. She soon realized she was able to perform magic, but at the age of 15 she was taken in by the Enforcers and changed into a werewolf. She quickly learned that few werewolfs had magic and she was careful of showing her magic to the other non-magical werewolfs, rarely doing so and hiding her amulet when possible.
She spies on the Loyalists for Jane Farrar. She also spies on the Enforcers for Mandrake. She is an Enforcer, though, and tells important information to Ferrar and only a little information to Mandrake. In other words, sometimes she gives Mandrake helpful information, but not all of the time, while she gives Ferrar everything she can.

Special Items: An amulet that protects from poisons, wounds going bad, infections, diseases, etc. (similar things). It also takes in direct energy blasts thrown at the wearer and gives the enrgy to them. Andraa found it and doesn't know if it has a special name.

(temporarily) Is wearing Farrar's amulet around her neck. ...she's not exactly sure of what it does, though...

((You said that the Enforcerers have FEW magicians...does that mean I can be a magician werewolf? I'll wait for an answer before I post--just so I don't get myself into a predicament. Oh, and I'm not exactly sure if there are normalities for certain species or anything in this world, so if I'm doing anything wrong, just tell me and I'll see if I can change it...))

Okay, I EDITed Andraa's history to kind of explain what she is...and I didn't post it before because I was still considering if I wanted her to do it...and I decided I did want her to. :P

(( Thanks for joing, Anade, it sounds good. And though I haven't heard of werewolf magicians, there's always a first time for everything. So... accepted. You can make your first post :D . By the way, werewolves in this world are not affected by the full moon, but instead trnasform when enraged. Some can also transform at will ))

Age: 20
Species: Human
Affiliation: Commoners
Appearance: Tall, brown hair and eyes, well toned physique

Personality: I'm just going to wing it w/my character's personality.

Brief history:Taught martial arts and knife fighting/throwing by his mother. Father died in North American war.

Special powers: superb martial arts skills, resistance to magic

Special Items: magic gauntlets. If physical contact is made with a victim's flesh/fur/scales (you get the idea) then some of their energy is temporarily absorbed. Gauntlets make no distinction between David's friends and his foes (If you know of Rogue from X-Men, it's the same deal as her mutant powers except David can take his gauntlets off).

"How did it go so wrong?" David asked himself as he was licking his wounds in an alley back in Commoner territory.

He had been a part of an assassination mission involving the 12 best assassins the Commoners had. Their mission was to kill Jane Farrar, leader of the Enforcers. It had gone smoothly, they had even neutralized the djinn she had with her by using a very powerful item, until she brought out her rumored (well, not rumored any more) second djinn. The second one freed the first, since they didn't have the resources to contain two, and attacked David and his team.

The result was the deaths of 9 of the assassins. It would have been 10, but the leader of the mission chose to die a quick death by letting David's gauntlets absorb all of his life energy rather than have both he and David die a slow death. He used the energy to escape just as a large energy ball disintigrated his leader's corpse.

He was sure no one had seen him flee and that the Enforcers thought him to be dead.

"I have to get to some where I can heal quicker, as much energy as Nathan (the deceased leader of the team) gave me, it won't last forever. Then, I have to make a choice. Reveal to everyone that I'm still alive or use the element of surprise."

((Am I good or what? First post and my guy already is suffering. Plus, we have Commoner-Enforcer interaction now.))

(( In your post, daveshan, you said that you used a powerful spell. Firstly spells don't really exist, their basicall just special attacks used by Demons. Also commoners can't summon Demons unless they get a Magician on their side, which they wouldn't so because all members of the Resistance hate Magicians. The only way you could have cast a spell on the Djinn was by using an item which you had stolen from magicians. An example of this sort of item would be an Inferno Stick. These items are fragile, one use only things, that begin to burn powerfully at a command word. You'd use an item similar to that ))

Author:  daveshan [ Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:14 pm ]
Post subject:

((Ok the thing about the spell containing the djinn was just something to say that they thought they won but then they lost. If you want me to change it to "an item" no problem. Second, the Commoners had no djinns, the djinns belonged to Farrer who you said had two djinns.))

Author:  Undeadcutlet [ Fri Jan 13, 2006 10:05 pm ]
Post subject:

(( I wasn't actually saying that you had djinn, I was just stating that if you wanted to have a spell being cast then a Djinn would be your only option, aside from an item. Also can you post again, because currently you're the RPs only active member. I need to wait for CF to post, and she isn't here, and we still need to wait for Anade. Recommendation: you're making your way back to the Resistance's stockpile of magical weapons, so if the Enforcers come after you then you've got protection. Or you can just do as you please. Either way, thanks for joining! I forgot to put that in my first post reacting to your post. Yeah. ))

Serrevia studied her nails and wondered how to reply. This one didn't look like he'd be cowed by any big tales of her feats, nor did he look like the sort that would be frightened into a mistake easily. Instead she replied simply,
"I am she."

Putting a hand lazily on her waist, she waited for her command. Hopefull it would be something quick and easy and she could return to the Other Place in one piece, soon.

"Very good," Jakob said, nodding at the demon, "tomorrow there will be a conference of several prominent members from each major magical society in London. It's supposed to be a friendly meeting, a cease fire in this area, but it would be best not to let my guard down. Also there will be much tension in the days leading up. I charge you to protect me from all bodily harm from now until the end of the conference. You must be with me at all times. Do you understand? Once you do I will break the spell binding you to this Pentacle and you can begin your charge."

Serrevia rolled her eyes slightly. A protection charge. Always the most boring. But hey, he had only said protect him from bodily harm, so she could watch and laugh if he got any mental harm. Sweeping back her long hair, she nodded and vanished her long tail and wings, changing her clothes to long dark pants and a pale sleeveless shirt as she did.

"Yep. I get it. Let's go."

Jakob made a sweeping motion of his hand and the enchantment was broken. He stepped out of the circle, motioning Serrevia to do so too. "So, tell me about yourself, Serrevia. I find it's difficult for us to work together if we have no real reason to."

Serrevia looked slightly confused as she stepped out of the pentacle. Since when did humans care about demons histories? Although it was nto impossible for a human to genuinely care, it was very uncommon.

"You're read your history books." she said. "You tell me."

"Hah! Like I can trust a book to be objectional. Or factual. Follow me." Undead walked out of the room and, taking his keys, left the house. "So, tell me. Just for your information, we're on our way to the commoner part of town," he spat the word out as if it was dirty, "I have a mission to find a stockpile of magical weapons. Apparently in a failed assassination attempt on Jane Farrar the Resistance managed to steal an item of some power. Mr. Madrake wants me to find this item for him, and he thinks it will be in some sort of 'secret stockpiling room.' Anyway, hurry up and tell me about yourself."

((No way! It requires 1) Knowing a bit of history, and 2) Thinking >_<))

"There's not much to know." Serrevia said uncertainly. This had to be a trick of some sort. "I haven't been summoned too many times, but I was in Egypt during the building of the Great Pyramids, and I was summoned quite recently to help with the golem attack on London."

Jakob laughed and turned around to face the Djinn. "Hah! Fooled you," Jakob smiled and snapped his fingers, "so you worked on the pyramids, did you? Nearly every Djinn worked on the Pyramid, it's no big thing. Anyway, we have to hurry. It's getting dark and I need my sleep for the conference."

Despite the frosty air, mid-summer, Jakob continued to talk, "so, you're one of them silent demons are you? Well that won't do. I have a confession to make. I'm not the best with other people," he adjusted his mask nervously, "I find myself much more at ease with Djinn."

David stumbled through the streets and back into his house. It was a pretty shabby place, but it was home for him.

"Ugh, finally I'm back. Now I can rest up until I figure out what to do."

He was about to head off into dream land when he heard the territory-wide alarm. Members of another faction were approaching the territory. Although when the alarm sounded like it did now, it meant that the someone was just here to parley but David was still worried. He had an eerie feeling of which faction it was.
