Which trilogy do you think is better? I've included a poll for this...

Personally I think Matrix is just cool. Especially the war in The Matrix: Revolutions, with the Mech-like machines (forgot what they are called though haha). But I think Matrix's storyline pales in comparison to LOTR, and besides LOTR is wayyy cool too, but in a different, non-science fiction kinda way. Plus the graphics are breathtaking. So overall I think LOTR is much better than The Matrix trilogy :D

I think the Lord of the Rings is better for reasons unknown. No it's just that LOTR is more of my style then The Matrix.

LOTR is a masterpiece of film. Each of the three movies are totally perfect, and the trilogy as a whole even more so. Unfortunately, I can only say this about the first and original Matrix. While the first Matrix is also a masterpiece, I must admit that both the sequels absolutely SUCK, especially the 3rd one. At least the 2nd one had lots of action in the Matrix, which is all we really wanted to see, but the 3rd one has that ridiculous robot war, which is something we've seen before in many science-fiction movies. A disappointing ending to a disappointing trilogy. The Matrix should have been left as one movie.

LOTR. Just don't try and watch all three in one day, like me and my buddies tried to do. We got about as far as the Battle of Helm's Deep before we wanted to kill ourselves AND JRR Tolkien. :P

The Matrix. Only because that is the kind of action I prefer. The hard-hitting-bullets- and kung-fu-kick-you!

However, graphics in LOTR is by far the best this world has seen! And I do like the parts when Legolas and Herman (the dwarve whatever his name is) are picking of enemies and counting them!

Yep. I liked that part where Legolas and Gimli were counting their kills, and Legolas took down the entire elephant and Gimli said "That's still one!" 8)

Lol, you have no idea... My friend and I went to a Lord of the Rings marathon, in a THEATRE. We got free sandwiches, and free popcorn and a drink :) The marathon lasted 11 hours long... At 12:00 Midnight there was the premiere of Return of the King, and they showed the other two movies before it. I'm telling ya, it was by far the most fun I've ever had. Not seeing Lord of the Rings on a big screen, with digital surround sound blasting in your ears, is a crime.

I am a big ''lord Of The Rings'' fan.

Seen them all at the theaters, and loved every minute of them.

They are so Zeldaish.

I vote LOTR.

Hahaha no one voted for The Matrix.

I never even saw The Matrix, so of course I'd have to go with LOTR.

I'm suprised that the matrix even got one vote. In my opinion, this is quite a pointless poll seeing as, we already know the answer. And everyone but the most die hard matrix fans can see that lotr was perfect. The only thing that bugged me about lotr was the periode dialouge. But of course, the movie wouldn't work without it. The acting was kind of mediocre-to-ok, but the set, costumes, make-up, and cinematography (sp?) was absolutely gorgeous. The matrix got old after the first one because all of the slow-mo thing has been over done since then, whereas when the matrix was first made, that kind of animation was original.

Both movies had it's pro's and cons. The LoTR was an amazing set of films though it wasn't obviously original and I also wan't moved as much as the Matrix, it may have been because I had already read the trilogy, so I got a bit bored at times, though it was really pretty to look at. Unlike some people here I really understand the themes in the Matrix, and I learnt from it. Also, I don't believe that LoTR was perfect, escpecially in the first and second films. There are too many to list, though I must have spotted about 10 things in the first 30 minutes of the FoTR, I almost left the theatre, though it was still good. I think I watched it a couple of times when it came out on DVD and found about 30 errors (can't remember the exact amount).

Though I do agree that by the end of the trilogy it did get a bit sucky, maybe if the themes were expressed in a different way. I don't believe that the main quality to Matrix was the action and violence, it was the 'drama', so I think it could have been a great film without the all the biff and bangs. Has anyone here seen the Animatrix? It may not be in the Matrix trilogy, though it was still an incredible piece of work. I spent three hours after I watched it just thinking about it, that is something I don't do often. LoTR is a great thing though if you look past all the punches and kicks you might see that the Matrix has something else, something that the LoTR doesn't have. They are very close though I think that Matrix wins by a quarter of a hairs length.

... O god why did I do that, I hope this doesn't start a flame war.

First of all... The Matrix is just as non-original as LotR. In fact, it's LESS original, since it claims to be original when it really isn't. The themes in The Matrix were already discussed in many movies before it, such as Ghost in the Shell, Dark City and EXistenZ. Also, the style of The Matrix is basically a live-action Japanese anime. In fact, some shots and elements in The Matrix are taken DIRECTLY from Ghost in the Shell.

Second of all, What do you mean errors? If you mean technical errors, then there's no comparison - The Matrix is the KING of technical errors, and this is a known fact in the film world. There's a literally endless amount of un-erased wires, errors in the computer graphics, continuity errors, and visible camera/crew/mike in The Matrix. And if you're talking about errors in the story - there's no such thing! The Lord of the Rings is not a direct film translation of the book, it's an adaptation of how Peter Jackson wants to see and tell the story!!

And thirdly: I never doubted The Matrix. In fact, I consider it a modern masterpiece, and it is one of my favourite movies, and is one of the best movies of the 1990's. The themes it talks about are SO deep and philosophical, it's mind-blowing. Forget the action, or the style - while those things ARE interesting, they're not what's interesting in The Matrix. What is interesting is the existential philosophies in that movie. The allegory to the media of today (the machines are the media, and they put a shield in front of the eyes of the people - that is The Matrix. The media builds a false reality for the people). My problem with The Matrix is the fact that they didn't leave it at that. The stupid Wachowskis were so full of themselves, they had to do these two sequels, which completely cancel out the intelligent message of the first movie. And I mean COMPLETELY. Sure, there are those nerds who will say that the two sequels are really symbolic, and philosophical, and probably some nonsense about "Plato's Cave Allegory". But I say that the philosophy of the Matrix isn't interesting at all. What's interesting is its message, and its allegory to REAL LIFE. The fact that nothing in The Matrix is explained is what makes it so wonderful to watch and experience. The fact that they had to turn it into some sort of bogus mythology in the second and third films is what makes me so angry at The Matrix trilogy as a whole.

Ha, now that i look at it, the matrix is very philisophical, only i never realized it because i watched it when i was ten. I haven't bothered to watch it since, and no, lotr is not perfect, but it is very close to it. I read the books and they were ok in my oppinion, but the movies were much better and put a much bigger emphasis on relevant subject matter. And while the first matrix was good (as i can remember it), the second one sucked so much that i didn't bother with the third one, and consequently, since this poll is on wether or not the trilogy is better then the other, i have to go with Lotr

Hey, fm, when did you read the LOTR book series? In my opinion, there was so much more detail in the books than in the movie. Obviously, it had to be edited down but still, there was everything with Tom Bombadil and all conversations in the book were longer and far more in depth. Dont get me wrong: the movies were truly artistic and extremely detailed. The gold on the Easterlings costumes, the little embroideries on peoples cloaks and everything else was practically unnoticable but the costume designers went to that trouble of making every tiny bit perfect. Its simply unbelievable!! Everyone should watch every special feature on the extended versions of all three movies. It will blow you away!! :o

LOTR were better in my opinion because the matrix plot got extremly weird near the end. I had to watch the movies twice to really understand it. Plus i like fantasy over sci-fi any day

THE MATRIX ALL THE WAY, the matrix trilogy is brilliant, personally LOTR to me was just boring, my mate dragged me to the return of the king and I fell asleep, and the only drawback with the matrix is the unlimited supply of ammo they seem to have.
