It's not too early to start talking NCAA football, I trust?

Official team practices start soon, after all.

I always have been and always will be a Nebraska Cornhuskers obsessor. We're looking pretty good this fall, too, what with seventeen returning starters and the best quarterback in football (I'm telling you, it's true).

Unfortunately, the Huskers' fall schedule has two HUGE hurdles: we play USC and Texas, both. Other than those two, which many in Husker Nation think we can pull off an upset at USC, all our other games seem perfectly winnable.

So, in NCAA football terms, who do you love?

My fav NCAA football team is the Colorado Buffaloes (so, boo hiss to papersun). Both of my parents graduated from CU, and I have very little connection to any other team, so that's who I root for. I have no idea about their schedule or anything, but I suspect that they're not going to do very well this year, what with all the turmoil at the university these days.

FU, I mean UF, is my favorite team. They always do well, but seem to lose one too many games. Otherwise, they wouldn't be playing in the Outback Bowl every year.

There's never a bad time to talk about college football ;o

I am fairly obsessed with college football, and if ever asked to, I could easily name every NCAA 1-A school by conference, and name a former or current NFL player from each of them.

As far as my teams go, I am a huge Oklahoma Sooners and Tulsa Golden Hurricane fan, and I have very high hopes for each of them this year.

The way Tulsa's schedule works out, they can go undefeated. With the new BCS game, this would give Tulsa a strong shot at breaking into a BCS game with an impressive showing in the Conference USA championship game. They have a top notch QB in Paul Smith, a three-headed monster at Running back, talented wideout Idris Moss, an all-around good secondary, and a dominating interior linebacker in Nick Bunting. If everything comes together, you could see Tulsa playing in one of the last five bowls.

If the Oklahoma Sooners just make it to a regular BCS game, it will be a major disappointment. The Sooners have the tools on both sides of the ball to win the National Championship. On defense, they have dominating forces in LB Rufus Alexander, DEs Larry Birdine and C.J. Ahyou, and a stellar supporting cast. Their offense, featuring the best running back in all of college football, will ultimately rest on the shoulders of QB Rhett Bomar. In his redshirt freshman year, he showed flashes of brilliance. Unfortunately, these flashes were offset by boneheaded and immature decisions. If he can grow up, the Sooners' chances will improve dramatically.

Congrats to your Sooners, as the projected Big XII South champs. Nebraska swung the North vote, but that doesn't really say much, what with Kansas State, Iowa State, and (sorry, JsXtm) Colorado in the same division.

Hope to see you in Arrowhead come December. :D

Well, OU's success will no longer be related to Rhett Bomar. He was kicked off the team today, and OU's success now lies with either quarterback-turned-receiver-turned-quarterback Paul Thompson who was unfairly replaced by Bomar, a walk-on, or one of two freshmen.

If we do play in December, I hope it is the first week and not the last.

News from the Nebraska practice field . . . four-star recruited quarterback Harrison Beck has decided that being fourth on the depth chart (due to being injured . . .) isn't good enough, so he walked this week. Also, Zack Bowman, exceptionally fast cornerback, is out for the season with an ACL injury.

In other Big 12 news, both of Kansas State's quarterbacks who started last season have gone and quit the team. Looks like a return to the eighties for the Wildcats (not that anyone around Nebraska is unhappy . . . :P).

I'm all about the SEC. in my opinion its the toughest conference.

I'm a die hard Alabama fan but I hate LSU,Teneesee, and Auburn, all are bitter rivals so that would explain. :)

The end to the nuclear winter oftentimes referred to as "the offseason" is only a week away!

More reasons to be stoked at Nebraska, we just had Heisman candidate quarterback Sam Keller transfer to Nebraska from Arizona State. Unfortunately, NCAA rules prevent him from being eligible this season. However, it changes 2007 from looking like a rebuilding year to the season Nebraska finally makes another national title run.

Nebraska takes on Louisiana Tech this weekend, the first of two sacrificial lambs before the Sept. 16th trip to battle USC. Husker Nation is predicting a romp, and I can't see any reason why it should go otherwise.

In other news, the lines came out today! I'm gonna list them here for every team someone has mentioned so far (unless they don't play this Saturday, obviously):

Nebraska over Louisiana Tech (by 21)
Florida over Southern Miss (by 20)
Oklahoma over Alabama-Birmingham (by 21.5)
Houston over Rice (13)
Alabama over Hawaii (17)

Good luck to you all this weekend, and let the football commence!
