I don't post often in the Sports forum, but a little over an hour ago I got the news that one of my childhood heroes, Kirby Puckett had passed away.
For the unaware, Kirby played baseball for the Minnesota Twins, my hometown team. Kirby was a fan favorite because he looked like he was one of them; he wasn't in perfect shape by any stretch of the imagination. He led the Twins to two World Series championships, both as underdogs, in 1987 and 1991. He retired in 1996 dude to deteriorating sight.
Since then he really let himself go and put on an incredible amount of weight and was involved in a scandal or two. Complications from his weight led to a massive stroke yesterday, which in turn led to his death earlier today.
Rest In Peace, Kirby.
