The books are all bestsellers, the movies are still raking in the dough and the games are loved even though the production quality isn't the best.

So here's my question. Harry Potter: Yea or Nay?

Personally I loved the first three books. Then, J.K. seems to have aged Harry into angst-mode. Things turned into a high-school soap opera. With magic and scary guys trying to kill people. There are still good moments for me where JK can pull some empathy from me for the characters (most recently it was the ending of the latest book), but in general my tastes have moved on to more refined things.

And maybe I've just been jaded by the truck loads of horrible fanfiction. Ick. How many american exchange students dating Harry and Draco are there?! Eeechk.

So. Are you for or against the series? Neutral? Planning to stake out your local bookstore and assasinate the next shipment of paperbacks?

Well I love the series, otherwise I wouldn't have bought all the boks and go to the movie to see what it missed. It's not like a soap opra it is just that Harry is maturing and he is going through more things and finding out about the Wizarding World.I actually feel bad for the poor boy, every time he gets a friend or someone he gets colse to they die off.

I like the series, the plot is good, plenty of humor, I liked the movies, except for the third one, to me that one was boring and predictable but they should fire whoever mutilated the theme tune for the fourth movie, it was completely shot to hell, they just tried to make it more sinister, and I agree with Latios about the soap opera thing, I too feel sorry for him about the deaths, but there is one simple solution....... guns.

Exactly 2x4b, no Voldy, no good. I love evil (Ganon). I predicted that Moddy was up to somethin' in GOF, obvious. I mean, honestly, since when were teachers that helpful? Really. The plot is guessable in books and films. Still original ideas though.

Anyway, I think the three main actors (Daniel Radicliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson) are really talented. Unlike some drama schooled people COUGHMKCOUGH in our Drama class who every time you speak to him or go near him, he thrashes at you violently then takes 10 minutes to think of a crappy insult such as "you fat thing". :extremeroll:

I really do approve of who they picked to do the movies, don't get me wrong. XD They found themselves some great actors. Some of them aren't that bad looking... >.> Eh-heh. But in anycase.

...On a random note, was there anyone else out there who though that the whole... Lupin with a weedy mustache was just... weird? XD And the werewolf... Looked like a friggin' giant chihuahua. With hair loss.

in the first movie was good apart from the acting being bad..
in the second movie the snake looked like a slug with fangs...
in the third movie was good but as Xin said the werewolf did look like a giant chihuahua...
the last movie was good but they missed out 2 much..
as for the books the fourth one was the best!

XD The second movie... Loved when Ron was blorking slugs. Apparently the slug props were flavoured, and whatshisface who played Ron ended up liking the Cherry and Rootbeer flavoured ones best...

I think the only bad actor that they picked was Chan. She was chinese looking but then she had a sweddesh voice when she spoke, wierd. I would have to agree with alot of you that the third one was the most boring book and the most boring movie. As for what Saga said I might have to agree with him,the longer and longer it takes for the final book to come out.The more and more I start to get bored with the series.

Sadly, some people are willing to line up for hours for a book that, if they waited a week or so, would be all over the place at discounted prices.

<<; The third book was actually my favorite...

Oh..well umm...sorry.I only don't like it because it has less action,I think the real thing that makes it boring to me is because I guess Voldermort isn't in it at all.

Yes that is true,I only apologized because I thought it was the right thing to do. I guess you can say Prizoner of Azkaban was a decent book. Only because two of my favorite characters were introduced in it ,and that is were you got to find out about Dementors. So it is okay just not as good as the others.

The first three were good. The other two were, in my opinion, pretty crap. Too long and the material was old. Also the movies aren't very good, at least in my opinion (I don't like Daniel Radcliffe as an actor. Talk about typecasting).

I like the books better.

1st Movie - It leaves out Snape's poisons (Just before Harry finds the mirror), but other than that , it's pretty good.

2nd Movie - It's good, doesn't leave out any cool or important parts.

3rd and 4th Movie - They are leaving out too many parts and it's always too dark...

^^ Heee. It seems everyone I run accross seems to think the same way. Well, except for like... people who never bothered to even read the books.

:P Gah. Agreed. It was both too depressing, or just... dark as in not bright enough. Half the time it was hard to make out what was happening.

Hey you also forgot that they didn't even show the dead troll part,if I really wanted to I could list every movie that missed something from the book.

I think the movies - all of them - are better than the books. The first two movies were pretty awful, and I felt the books were worse, but both the books and the movies pick up in the third and the fourth. Goblet of Fire is both my favourite book in the Harry Potter series and also my favourite movie.

While all the sub-plots in the various books are interesting to read and to know about, they do show some sloppy writing, as they are sometimes completely irrelevant to the main plot of the book/movie. That is why I like the movies better: The movies cut off all the unnecessary things and sub-plots leaving only the central storyline (these things must be removed in order to keep the movie at a watchable length), while still managing to characterize the characters without all the sub-plots and such.

Some people here complain that the third and fourth movies are too dark. Well, here's a news flash: Rowling's books are dark as well. This is why I felt that the first two movies failed to deliver: They were too light-hearted, toned down and kid-oriented. In fact, the earlier books in the series are also toned down and more kid-oriented in comparison with the later books. The series keeps getting better, both the books and the movies, and I hope it will stay dark and mature, and not childish and silly as it started out originally.

I say yay.

I absolutely love Harry Potter, it is one of those things that people become obsessed with, like I'm sure at least someone has PREORDERED a pokemon game, and the've got it the first day it came out. I'm not trying to insult anyone, I'm just saying Pokemon and Harry Potter are kind of the same.

I've even learned that-
Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix the Movie- December 31, 2007
Harry Potter 7 the Book- July 7, 2007 date in #'s 07-07-07 (spooky!)

I like the Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire soundtrack, Fluffy, and Norbert, but other than that I don't really like HP. I've only got halfway through the second book, and I own the first movie.

It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so long...it took me two weeks to read Watership Down, and that was only 540 pages. Aigh...

As retribution for a favour from a female I have to eventually read all of the Harry Potter Books and see all the Movies when it's possible.

I am such a bit-

The thing that is weird is that the actors are growing to old to play there rolls.By the time the last movie comes out they will be way to old to look like the character they are acting. After a while it will be like Final Destination 3 all over again,it is sad it really is.
