Well, judging by my recent avatars (yay Yuna & Lulu!), I think it's fairly obvious I'm a fan of FF. Which games has everyone played? Which games are your favorites?

To this date, I've played two games in the series: VII and X. And I liked X a LOT more than VII, but I can't really make a full judgment on VII, because I didn't play very far. But X is my favorite; it gets a lot of unneeded flak because OH NO THE SPHERE GRID AND VOICE ACTING ARE SO AWFUL and they weren't. My biggest complaint about VII is that OMG IT'S THE BEST GAME EVAR DUDE and I see nothing to support that claim... it plays exactly like a dumber FFX because it's timed.

My "To Play" FF Priority List:
1. Finish X
2. X-2
3. FF7
4. FF9
5. FF8

So discuss. However, no spoilers, or fear my uber-wrath. :D

I wouldn't consider myself a real fan. I only own X, and I've only played it and maybe 20 minutes from VII (at a friend's house), and that's it. I absolutely LOVE FFX, though. It's my favourite PS2 game :D I've been too lazy to actually finish it, I haven't even picked it up for the past few months, but I suppose it's about time to finish it... I've just got so many other things to do. Anywho, I think FFX is awesome, but I don't know about anything else really.

FF's seem to be good games, but I never played them since I only have a Game Boy Advance :(

Well, you could always try FF Tactics Advance or some of the remakes of the original six games for the GBA?

I just played two hours of FF7 and it seems quite a bit less dumb after I've gotten used to FFX. But I still don't like the timed battle aspect, or that you have to use your Limit Breaks when you get them when you could save Overdrives in FFX. The graphics still scare me though.

Outside of FFVII and X, I did see a bit of the FF movie. Nice graphics, but even I could tell it was about as linked to the video games as the Super Mario Bros. movie was, and I wasn't an FF fan at the time.

I've played 1-X2 but if you ask me what my faves are I would have to say X because when you summon aeons they don't just come out and do one attack and leave but you get to control them and my second would have to beFFX2 becuase of the dressspheres

I played Final Fantasy on the old NES ^^
I believe I played 2 and 3 as well , but I'm not sure about that.
I remember those days well , when I used to go over to a friends house , we made a random team with the characters and then played the game.
We finished it so many times , and always with a different team .. it was cool ^^

Haven't played the newer Final Fantasies though , mainly because I don't own a Playstation or Playstation 2.
I don't like the fanboyism around the games though.
From al the fanboyism on games I've seen , the FFFanboys are most likely the worst.

Oh god, I know. You should see some of these people want to bludgeon me to death with a dull object for even suggesting that Final Fantasy VII really isn't the best game in the universe. I think Sony fanboys in general are more vicious than fanboys of the other companies, but that's a rant in itself...

FFVII really failed to draw me in at first play (I played for three hours because the crazy battle system, bad camera angles and FUGLY graphics forced me to stop), but becoming used to FFX and what FF is all about has renewed my interest in VII and now I'm playing both. FFX also makes me want to try some of the other games in the series, to see for myself why FFVIII and X-2 have such bad reputations, or why nobody really cares about the games preceeding VII. I also want to get the GBA game, just for the portability... the Gamecube game looked too stupid to bother with, though.

I'm one of the few people who liked part 9 best :). It just plays more like an 'old' RPG.

I actually didn't start playing the games until Kingdom Hearts came out. .then I bought X. . .I loved it, but my favorite as of now is X-2. . .it may sound odd but I really enjoyed the battle system. . as for 7. . I tried very hard to tollerate it. . but I couldn't and quit after about 4 hours. . .

I have yet to play a FF game, though I DESPERATELY want to play FFX and X-2. However, my father believes that so long as I own a GameCube, I have no need for a PS2, even if I can afford it all myself. And no, I can't make him change his mind. It took me until 3 months before the GCN came out to convince him it was OK to get an N64 and keep the Genesis.. and don't get me started on having to literally hide the fact that I got a GBC to play Pokemon Red...

well, the first FF I ever played was 8, which i liked. 9 as well. my brother bought 7 and it was ok, but not worth the hype. I bought FFXI, the online one, and have had a LOT of fun with it. My brother has X, but it seemed boring to me. I've also played FF1, and it's pretty silly...

My favorite is FFX. I wish Square would recreate some classics and put the on the PS2 because I also like FFVII - FFIX

Yes, I also wish Square would re-release some games, because I'm sure it's an absolute nightmare to find the original carts OR the ROMs. They have the technology with the PS2... are they telling me they couldn't fit three 8-bit and three 16-bit games on one disc and release the entire pre-Sony games all in one package?

All the games after VI are popular and easy to find; I have no real need to see them re-released... unless they want to fix up FFVII's fugly 3D Character models. Cloud's arms scare me.

I just started playing FFX, and I'm loving it. I've already got X-2, and will get VII, despite the funky attempt at 3D that reminds me of the Sega Saturn... And, I'll get FF and FFII on the GBA as well. Good to have the classics, I'd think... now if they'd just release the OTHER ones here in America....

heh, I have FF1 on my comp. and as for 7 onward, I can only see 7 being remade. yes, those characters looked like voodoo dolls....

I wanna see Square do more non-FF games, though. I WANT ANOTHER VAGRANT STORY, DAMNIT!

I'm hoping for the day when the first six FFs are released together on a Playstation console; in the mean time, FFI and II are on FF Origins, FFIV is on FF Chronicles, and FFV and VI are on FF Anthology, all three of which are PS games. Unfortunately, FFIIIj is the only main game not released in America yet...

I saw this question around Livejournal, so I figured I would ask it here. If Final Fantasy was real, which character would you date? I'd probably go for Wakka. With girls, Lulu, Tifa, or Yuna.

I think they already remade FF1, or were, then canned it. I think that Square needs to chill out, somewhat. they've milked FF so much that there's naught but dust coming from the udders. I'm surprised Square-Enix hasn't just renamed themselves to The Final Fantasy company. I wanna see something besides an RPG for once in ~20 years. They can use some of Enix's liscenses and make Mischief Makers 2 or something O_o

Anyhoo, in response to your question.... um... Tifa, Quistis, or Beatrix? *shrug*

There's a new Square Enix RPG called Star Ocean that's out/coming out... it looks interesting, if not terribly FF-ish. Square can release 6 zillion RPGs and whatever over games and they'd all sell well... for example, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts, Xenogears, Secret of Mana, Parasite Eve [/looking at GameFAQ's Square info], etc. RPGs are what Square is good at; I say they should stick to them and leave the platformers and stuff to Nintendo.

I now officially (and legally) own 9 out of the first 10 FFs. Now they just need to release FFIIIj over here and I'm satisfied.

I think Star Ocean is a remake... Besides, my point is that there are so many RPGs, it'll eventually get stale. (Not to mention in many cases it has, and gameplay ends up recycled)

but anyhoo, do you own the GB FFs? :P Also, do you plan on getting FFXI or any of the others at all?

And months later, I've played enough of the Playstation-era Final Fantasies to give an opinion.

1. Final Fantasy X: My first and still my favorite. The turn-based battle system is my favorite of any FF, the game sucks you into the plot, and all the characters are awesome (unlike the other parts of the series where there's always somebody I want to throw off a cliff). Some people see the voice acting as a bad thing but I don't think it's as bad as they say. It really helped me "get into," the characters more than any other installment. And (probably because it's the only one I've beaten) the game has the most memorable soundtrack, including Rikki's "Sutekidane."

2. Final Fantasy X-2: Being a direct sequel to my favorite game is the deciding factor. Although Lulu was lost as a playable character, we did pick up a Paine which is a pretty fair trade. I've seen a lot of people put down FFX-2 as brainless fluff, which I don't understand. The Dresspheres and battle system are pretty complex (especially the chains) and while the story seems lighthearted in the beginning of the game, things get increasingly dark as the plot thickens. The graphics manage to top the prequel and while the music isn't as good (most likely because of Nobuo's departure), the three women all carry their weight as memorable characters.

3. Final Fantasy VIII: Isn't it weird how I like the most disliked Final Fantasies the most? I've seen people bitch about how much Drawing sucks. It's not THAT bad. I've seen people bitch about the storyline and all the "love." Every Final Fantasy has the pitifully annoying male/female heroine romance angles. And I've seen people bitch that the battle system relies too heavily on the Guardian Forces. So what? The characters are really what carry FF8, because these are (personality-wise and appearance-wise) the most realistic bunch of heroes of any Final Fantasy. So there's no real use for the "Attack," function in battle; everybody always uses the Summons anyway.

And as far as the rest go, I'm too tired to type up a lengthy response, so I'll just rank them:
4. FF7
5. FF9
6. FF1
7. FF6
8. FF4
9. FF2
10. FF5
Last. FF: Tactics Advance

Unranked: FF3 (we won't know until it gets released on the DS), FFXI (never played it, but it looks like it sucks), FFXII (not yet released, but I already don't like it).
