Lakers, Suns, Magic, Boston. It seems hopeless for both Orlando and Phoenix at the moment, which for me is very disappointing. After my team (Mavs) lost embarrassingly in the first round to the God-forsaken Spurs, I've been going for the Suns: I'd like to see Dirk's old running mate, Nash, to get a ring. If not them, I would like Orlando, as Dwight is simply one of the greatest and funniest players of all time. I'm tired of Boston and LA winning. Your thoughts? Preferences? |

At least you could beat them more than once. |

Since it's Lakers-Celtics XII, I would like to make a list of teams that should have a much better record with it, but don't... Wish list/likelihood: 1) Phoenix Suns Admittedly, I'm a sucker for Steve Nash being cut out. He's the Randy Winn of the NBA... Plus, if they keep Amare, they've got a pretty good shot if someone can handle the Lakers... (shrugs) One thing to keep in mind, they have historically been in the Finals (twice, lost). 2) Oklahoma City Thunder With a team like they've got, the young core that already has playoff experience, this isn't too far off. Especially having Kevin Durant... The Seattle SuperSonics had one [championship] before jumping ship. 3) Dallas Mavericks The best-balanced team that isn't named the Lakers in the Western Conference (even for a native Colorado kid...), and the only team in Texas (and everything is "bigger in Texas") that doesn't have a championship. Dirk Nowitzki is due for this, especially after the no-show to the Heat in '06. 4) Orlando Magic This is probably the most interesting case on the list. Besides being my first Eastern Conference team on the list (I'm from the west, give me a break), they have had great rosters in the past. They have only been one time, losing to the Lakers last year. And they had a really good squad this year. If it wasn't for my "love" of the Celtics, I would feel bad for them... Oh, wait, I still do. 5) Atlanta Hawks This team is not bad at all, and actually have a championship souvenir from their days in St. Louis. But with the squad they have, it is not a far-off possibility for them. That being said, they have to first establish themselves as a consistent power in the Eastern Conference. They did a good job of that this season. 6) Detroit Pistons For a team that has had a decent history, they fell off the table this year. Time to revert to the success of the early 2000's. They had two championships back-to-back, but since have been very quiet. Still have some of the same players too... 7) New Orleans Hornets Chris Paul has too good of an ability to be mired in New Orleans, but they have him locked up for now. Not to mention, he's got a brilliant rookie (now soph) backup point in Darren Collison. They are too good to be cut out of the Western Conference picture for too long... I might post more arguments later as I get to it. Suffice it to say this, here's a list of teams with less than 1 (or 1 championship) between them... 0 championships/appearances: -Charlotte Bobcats (expansion team of '04) -Toronto Raptors -Memphis Grizzlies -Minnesota Timberwolves -Denver Nuggets -Los Angeles Clippers -Cleveland Cavaliers -Indiana Pacers (despite Reggie Miller) -New Jersey Nets -Utah Jazz 1 championship: -Sacramento Kings -Milwaukee Bucks (from the Western Conference, no less) -Portland Trail Blazers -Washington Wizards **** AEPMT |

As soon as I found out It was going to be the 12th time the Lakers and Celtics collided in the finals, I always thought it was going to be Lakers in six. But in the Celtic's two wins so far, their biggest contributors were the bench and Rajon Rondo. In the Laker's two wins, they had top-notch D. Even in Game 3 where Ray Allen went 8/10 from downtown and had 29 points going into the second half, they still found a way to win (thanks to Derek Fisher.) If the Celtics win it (again,) I would choose either Rajon Rondo or Glen Davis as the MVP. If the Lakers win it, I'd choose Derek Fisher as the MVP. |

Apparently not so last night. 89-67?! I have to say I called that one. But Game 7 will be extremely close. I say Lakers win by 3 in OT. |

10 things I can say now that the Finals are over (and the Lakers won): 1. Well, I got my wish. 2. That was hella close! 3. You should've seen the look on my Dad's face when that clock hit zero. 4. In the words of Red Auerbach: "Like I always say, a champ's a champ until they're beat, and these guys are champs." 5. Two in a row, baby! 6. Kobe Bryant has five rings. 7. I seriously thinsk Phil Jackson's coming back next year. 8. On Shannon Brown: "What can Brown do for you?" 9. Kendrick Perkins can't take a hit. 10. CELTICS SUCK!! |

Oh my ******* g**! I can't believe the Lakers won. Me and my friend made a bet. I said that Celtics are gonna win and he said Lakers. The bet was $20. Now I'm $20 short |

At least it was only $20... I figured that once the Lakers managed to win Game 6 (especially in that fashion), they had the utmost momentum and that home-court would help. Point proven as they had an epic Game 7, only four points apart. While I'm not happy because at my core I'm a Denver Nuggets (or at the very least, a Steve Nash) fan, the Celtics are still the most successful franchise in the NBA, the Yankees of the Association. That means my definite Finals wishes next year include the following... Either: Hawks -OR- Magic -OR- Heat AGAINST Either: Nuggets -OR- Suns -OR- Mavericks Yeah, right, definite! AEPMT |
