I know there must be some people here who have heard of Sigur Rós, but everyone I ask in real life gives me a blank stare and ask, "Who?" Basically, I'm asking if someone has heard their music and what of it do they like.

I heard about Sigur Rós from my uncle, and at first I didn't think much of them until of heard more of their music from other albums. They're only the second band I've seen live (the first I have actually paid for), and the only band I ever paid to have music of. I bought my first album a week and a half ago, Hvarf/Heim.

I suppose if you've never heard of them, then I strongly suggest you listen to some of their music. They sing in Icelandic (because they're from there) and sometimes "Vonlenska" which is made up and described as "a form of gibberish vocals that fits to the music and acts as another instrument." I'm not really sure who to compare them to, but some people claim they're kinda like Radiohead. I recommend:

Von
Hafsól
Í gær
Starálfur
Flugufrelsarinn
Viðrar vel til loftárása
Glósóli
Hoppípolla
Sé lest
Heysátan

Their music is really beautiful. I got into them through Thursday (they covered the song I'm going to post below), and they're a band that I always feel I should listen to more often.

At first I was hesitant to listen to them, but gave the song posted above a try. I found the song rather soothing and a tasteful style of different music. I went on to listen to a few others, namely Glosoli, Saeglopur and Hoppipolla. The use of the different instruments and the vocals is done masterfully and I particularly like the brass used in some songs and how the drums pick up. The music is very moving and full of emotion and I would say that it is quite comparable to Radiohead.

Some may disagree but Id put them in a playlist with venetian snares. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sigur Ros are always good, however it takes awhile to appreciate how good they really are, because they build up many of their songs (through long intros, mellow verses et cetera), but once you reach the climax though it's an orgasm. eg: I creamed the first time I heard glosoli Image Image
