I know this sounds odd but Sonic 1, the first Sonic game ever...

Is probably the hardest game I've ever played... never got past the first few levels

After that it'd probably be a few of the stages in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, haven't gotten to play it in a while... Nothing new to do on in since I have it completely beat.

The hardest games, for me, are the ones in which you have no idea what you're doing. Like this game Shifters, an early PS2 game is absolutely insane. I have no idea what the point of the game is... I don't die, but I will never beat it because I don't know what to do. Also, the Metroid games are hard! And the original Gauntlet was really hard.. I've gotten really far, but it doesn't bother me. It's still one of the most addictive games for me. And there are countless NES games that are hard.

Gauntlet of Dark Legacy was not only one of the hardest games I've ever played, but also one of the most stupid. And a tier below that is the original Pokemon games. I remember picking that up as a kid and could not figure how the difference between Erika and Sabrina was even possible. I mean that's a lot of freaking levels in such a short, short amount of time. I was like :censored: Diablo II in Hell mode is also rather hard unless you spend your life on the game.

Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters on the original Game Boy. Hands down.

13 years, and I still can't beat the first boss.

Battle Toads.

Unanimously voted by gamers world-wide as the most difficult game ever made, I foolishly tryed my luck and failed time after miserable time to even pass the first level. My brother faired no better and we eventually decided that we would pour boiling water on every copy of the game we came across out of sheer spite and vengence.

There are a bunch of vids on youtube showcasing gaming gods actually beating this abomination, but don't be fooled, they make it look easy only after sweating, swearing and raging for months, even years, on end.

Yes, Battletoads is a HUGE pain. Once you've beaten it a couple times though, it doesn't get too bad. The only levels that are really frustrating for me are level 7, level 9, and level 10. The rest of them are pretty easy if you have them mapped out in your head. Heck, even the last level isn't that bad. It's just irritating if you die at the wind enemies and have to start over half way through the level.

Trauma Center : Second Opinion - It is Super Hard on easy. You have to have quick hands to beat that game (I don't).

trauma center games are really hard to beat, and I have a guide for the first one. Megaman X and megaman zero are hard, or rather, getting a good rank is.

I'm gonna have to say Pokemon. It's nearly impossible to catch all the Pokemon, especially if you've no one to trade version-specifics with. I have no friends.

The original 9 MegaMan games for the GameBoy. THEY WERE IMPOSSIBLE! Every time you'd jump towards a platform, you'd fall to your death ;-;

There was this game on the Genesis named Atomic Robo Kid. Hardest game I ever played. It was a really good game and you had some cool (although very generic) weapons, but the combination of cheap shots from the edge of the screen, the shop system (You had to purchase things with extra lives among all things), and sometimes the way the things respawned, it's annoying! Plus with every boss you're stuck in a closed room with something that takes up almost the entire space of said room. Touch it and you're dead.... I got killed more times from touching the boss than from the fire.

I recently got into playing Final Fantasy III for DS...

I found out that I no matter how much I love the games...I suck at RPGs. XP

The original Metroid is awfully difficult as well. I always end up getting lost, and I end up walking to the end of a passage, barely any health left, and it turns out that I'm not supposed to be there. D:

And Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels is no walk in the park either. It's like the original but they start at like World 4 or 5 difficulty. You need to continually make incredible jumps onto the smallest platforms. It gets REALLY annoying.

The hardest I've ever played...I can't really decide. No game I've played ever really prevented me from beating it.

Sadly, I've never had a Snes or Nes to call my own, but I'll still try to compile a few games from my youth. Note that I'm just a casual gamer, and have never gotten around to playing a lot of the games mentioned earlier so I will just try to go with what I know.

Kingdom Under Fire, the Crusades--This has got to be one of my all-time favorite games, and after years of attempts, I have only just been able to beat one of the 2 Hard campagins. It's not just that the the missions that give me trouble, but if you don't place your money/exp in the right stats you will probably have to restart the whole character's storyline.

Metal Warriors--... This is pretty much the only Snes game that I've actually played, but it's still pretty :censored:'ing hard.

I'd also like to point out that I'm the guy that can't notice obvious things. I can solve puzzles, but when it comes to something pathetically easy, like turning on a switch right next to you... I can get stuck for hours.

Gamecube: Paper Mario 2: The Thousand-Year-Old Door
Wii: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
GBA: Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
DS: Megaman Battle Network 5 Double Team DS

I couldn't go buying games whenever I wanted back then, so don't critizize me.

EDIT: Scratch Link to the Past, MOTHER 3 is :censored: hard in Chapter 4! I died hundreds of times thanks to those stupid Sqwauking Sticks and Reconstructed Moles! :frustrated:
EDIT AGAIN: NES, just got Kid Icarus, and MAN I'M GOING INSANE!
ANOTHER EDIT: Secret of Mana for the SNES is also driving me CRAZY!!!! :frustrated:
ANOTHER EDIT: Forget Megaman, :censored: Metroid Prime Hunters!!!

For gods sake the water temple wasn't that bloody hard!

Hardest game I've ever played? Super Mario Bros. 2.
I've had it for close to 5 years now, I still haven't beaten World 8-1.

Most challenging? Pikmin.
I've beaten it several times, and every time I play it it provides the same sort of challenge as before.

Most frustrating?

Abe's Exoddus. No contest.

I haven't even gotten half way through.

Is anyone out there familiar with the Everything is Trying to Kill You trope? This is a perfect example of that.
I can think of two, count 'em TWO, NPC's that wouldn't do ANYTHING WHATSOEVER to hurt you. Everything could, and probably would, hurt you in some way or another.

After very little in the ways of self-defense, it's a VERY HARD game. And still the best one ever.
