Yay, a non-retarded thread in the TV discussion forum!

I used to watch MMPR as a kid. It was kinda weird...usually I wouldn't watch stuff like TMNT and PR, but growing up with a brother and two male cousins (I'm the only female in this generation) I liked all those fighting shows. My grandma used to buy us power ranger toys etc., she'd always get my cousin Tyler the red ranger toys, my cousin Zachary the black ranger toys, my brother either got the blue ranger or yellow ranger toys (his favorite ranger was Trini) and I always got the pink ranger toys. Great memories...

Other than playing PR with my brother and cousins, I don't remember much about them, lol. I started watching PR again because a certain administrator got me hooked on them again (¬_¬) but I doubt I'll watch past the third season, which is where I stopped watching them when I was a kid. Oh, and one time my parents rented a power rangers game for Sega Genesis. It was a great game, I just don't remember much about it except playing as the Megazord and fighting some monster who I could never beat...

My favorite rangers from the first season are Jason and Kimberly. I guess my favorite rangers from the second season are Adam and Kimberly.

This guy is sexy btw:

Yay, a non-retarded thread in general.

I only remember seeing Season 1 of MMPR. Had the action figures too, and I played with them all the time. I had the Zeo figures as well, but I never saw an episode of Zeo (until recently.) After that I guess I just stopped watching them and never heard about them again until I saw an episode of Wild Force while at Disneyworld.

Then I saw most of Ninja Storm, and it was ok, but I never got into Dino Thunder so I stopped watching it again, until recently I started watching some episodes again (right now Turbo, Tiem Force, and SPD.)

Jason is probably my favorite from MMPR, but in more recent seasons, Sydney from SPD is my fav, because she's hawt.

((I'm the first non-admin person to post!))

I used to watch MMPR all the time. I'll admit, when I was 3 or 4 I was obsessed with it. I owned nearly every episode, and had my mom buy me all the toys. My favorite ranger was Tommy, and I would watch the first MMPR movie over and over again just to watch him in action.

My little brother likes MMPR now, and I think his favorite season is Dino Thunder (I think that's its name anyways). He has all my old toys, and alot of new ones as well. He's not watching it as much as he used to, but he still watches it when he catches it on TV.

Not much has changed between the seasons from as far as I can tell; same basic story. One big baddy, 5 or 6 PR's, lots of little baddies, and a happily ever after ending.

Almost every season of the show was great while Saban was in charge. The worst was probably the second season of Mighty Morphin due to all the production problems that the producers tried to gloss over because they had a hit show on their hands (including half the Ranger cast walking off the set, butchering Dairanger/custom-made Zyuranger footage, and the first movie running long while being filmed on-location in Australia).

Once Disney took over and MMPR Productions came to an end with the WildForce season, the show was only still watchable because Disney rehired Doug Sloan, one of the series' original writers/directors, to be the executive producer. He left after DinoThunder and I think the show has been on a steady decline since then. The current executive producer seems to be more concerned with blowing up half of New Zealand and making sure the Rangers have the inhuman ability to fly through the air for seconds at a time than bothering with plot or character development.

My rankings for the seasons are probably as followed:
Top Tier: Zeo (Season 4), TimeForce (S9), MMPR Season 3/Alien
Upper Tier: MMPR Season One, Lightspeed Rescue (S8), Ninja Storm (S11)
Mid Tier: Space (S6), Turbo (S5), Lost Galaxy (S7)
Lower Tier: DinoThunder (S12), SPD (S13), MMPR Season Two
Bottom Tier: WildForce (S10), Operation Overdrive (S15), Mystic Force (S14)

Out of the Mighty Morphin Rangers, my favorites are both of the Pink Rangers, Jason, Adam and Trini.

I third this motive. I always watched power rangers on Saturday mornings on television, and I liked it. But sooner or later, all good things have to come ot and end, and so did this franchise. Since Wildforce, I stopped watching. Yes, I would see it pop up on television, and would watch the occasional episode. The definitely best season was the first, because all of the others after that were just trying to copy it.

Here's a question I have for everyone:

What do you think is in the future of Power Rangers? what new ideas will they come up with?

Personally, I think that they will continue to make lame continuations of the series until people begin to lose interest in the franchise. But sadly, I do not think people will lose interest because there will always be new little boys and girls that have imaginations that are amused by the power rangers. Not saying older people can't have an interest as well, but I think that the bulk of viewers that watch the show are younger children.

I think they were mine too although I'm not sure about the male but I'm quite sure that Kimberly was my favourite female Power Ranger.

I don't know if the show is on any of the channels I have but I recall me thinking that the new ones suck.
Are the Power Rangers on D.V.D? I don't want kids but if I did have one, I'd like them to see some of the shows I used to watch as a child and the Power Rangers can definitely be included in the list of programmes I loved most as a youngster.

*Kind of off topic* They have made a few shows from when I was younger bad in my opinion, not just the Power Rangers but shows like Noddy and erm...Winnie the Pooh, lol.

Post subject:  Re: itt the power rangers

I doubt it, but has anybody been watching the latest season, Power Rangers: R.P.M.? As a long-time PR fan who was put-off by the last three or four years, I figured the show was spiraling down the drain to its death and then I found out a couple of months ago that it was "canceled"* . After learning this, I decided that I was going to watch the last season of PR on Saturday mornings, whether it was good or bad, for old time's sake. The last time I actually cared enough to watch Power Rangers during its first-run (or, hell, at all for the most part) was more or less 2004's DinoThunder.

The good news is that PRRPM is actually a very good season and easily the best since 2001's TimeForce. Ten episodes in and discussion on the biggest message board for older fans has reignited, the series is incredibly well-received, and it's pretty much kicking ass. The fight chereography is very tight, the characters are actually developed equally so far, the dialogue is consistently sharp and the storytelling is interwoven and doesn't talk down for the target audience. It's actually very good stuff... good enough that I actually bothered bringing this thread back up to rant about how good this show actually is.

If I had to rank RPM based solely on what has been aired so far, which is just about one-third of the series, it would be in my top five of all Ranger seasons, only behind Zeo, TimeForce, MMPR S3 and MMPR S1 and miles ahead of the last few years (Mystic Force, Overdrive and Jungle Fury).

* - (note: according to Bandai, the show actually hasn't been canceled, so the people of the PR fandom are just kind of scratching their heads for now)

I've actually never watched any Power Rangers except for Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, and Operation Overdrive. Since I have never seen any of the other ones, I can't really compare these supposedly "sucky" ones to the "amazing" ones of old. =[
Beach Party fun?

Ninja Storm and DinoThunder are actually good. SPD had some moments. The three after that, as well as WildForce, were pretty bad for the most part.

Updated rankings, for the hell of it:
Top Tier: Zeo, TimeForce, MMPR Season 3
Upper Tier: MMPR Season 1, RPM, Ninja Storm, Space
Mid Tier: Lightspeed Rescue, Turbo, Lost Galaxy, DinoThunder
Lower Tier: MMPR Season 2, SPD, Jungle Fury
Bottom Tier: WildForce, Overdrive, Mystic Force

As a kid, I loved this serious, but then Bandai started overloading it and I had a very difficult time keeping track of what series was what. Ninja force is the last real one I remember because it was actually pretty interesting in terms of what it was. Dinothunder kind of killed it, I think...sorry...

Post subject:  Re: Power Rangers: RETURNING IN 2011

SABAN HAS REACQUIRED THE POWER RANGERS FRANCHISE AND AN 18TH SEASON IS COMING!!!

Fuck the "Reversioned" Mighty Morphin reruns that Disney is crapping out, this is AWESOME. Power Rangers, owned by its original creator, on cable TV, with twenty new episodes (hopefully more if it's not a ratings bomb), and reruns of the old library of 700 airing concurrently? Between the Gen V starters being revealed and Power Rangers getting an unlikely resuscitation, today is an incredible day.

Wow, so far, May is **** amazing.

This is **** awesome. I hope they make more than 20 episode though. But I'm happy Disney doesn't have the rights anymore. Also, I hope the theme song is good.

Post subject:  Re: Power Rangers: mourning over Samurai's awfulness

Bumping this to express my disappointment over how Samurai has dropped the ball in every imaginable aspect. Nickelodeon has been airing episodes completely out of order, including saving the premiere of the entire season to serve as episodes 19 and 20, airing the team-up with a single RPM Ranger before a whole bunch of stuff happened in the second half of the season, and trying to treat the newly-retitled "Super Samurai" as a separate season.

This show is seriously terrible. It's ripping off Japanese scripts POORLY, the acting is some of the worst in series history, the Rangers are incredibly bland and unlikable, and they solve civilian problems by magically whipping their Samurai "Symbol Power" out of their butts to save the day. Plus I am all about chicks who kick butt and I can't even defend the two female waste of space Rangers on this season. I can cut the Yellow one some slack because she's cute, but the Pink one is literally one of the worst ever and they both spout cliche 1950's nonsense like the Yellow Ranger's quote of, "Every girl dreams of wearing a wedding dress some day!" and the Pink Ranger's goals in life consisting of "finding her Prince Charming" and becoming a subservient Asian housewife who cooks and watches children all day.

The male Rangers are not much better. The Red Ranger is literally played by a wax statue who has no ability to show facial expressions. The Gold Ranger spews incorrectly-pronounced Spanglish and acts like a hyper child. The Blue Ranger is dry as a desert and basically thinks delivering all of his lines with a breathy gasp makes him a decent actor when he's the worst one on the show. The Green Ranger is honestly the only tolerable actor on this show and on most other seasons he'd be a mid or lower card Ranger at best. Their mentor's name is literally Mentor Ji, which pretty much translates to Mentor Mentor, and he's quite possibly the worst actor of the bunch. The main villain sits around on his ship all day getting drunk (except the show says he's drinking "medicine" for his "headaches") while his octopus henchman does all of the actual evil plotting, and the city that the Rangers protect isn't even named because the show doesn't even care about naming it.

About thirty episodes of this crap have aired and I'm still completely dissatisfied with it, and have only liked about five or six episodes. In other words, barring the powers of the universe granting a miracle on this show's writing and acting, worst series ever:

Top Tier - Zeo, Time Force, RPM, MMPR Season 3
Upper Tier - Space, Ninja Storm, MMPR Season 1, Lightspeed Rescue
Mid Tier - Turbo, Lost Galaxy, MMPR Season 2, SPD
Lower Tier: Dino Thunder, Jungle Fury, Wild Force, Mystic Force
Bottom Tier: Operation Overdrive, Samurai

(P.S. since my last ranking I've actually watched SPD, Mystic Force, Overdrive and Jungle Fury from start to finish. OO was beyond terrible and I still like it more than this!)

So its not just me? O_o
Its not that I hate power rangers, I actually like being able to sneak out into the living room early in the morning to watch it when I was 8.
Now theyre trying to shove 'Samurai' down our throats. Saban has some good shows, like Dragonball and stuff, but seriously! 'Samurai' mocks my artistic film site. I watched an episode for like 5 minutes and the props and costumes were so badly animated that I kind of wanted puke. It was just horrible on the eyes. I agree with ya, Frost. Power Rangers couldve did a way better job with Samurai.
