Post subject:  Review a video game!

I'm really not sure if this'll catch on (probably not), but if it does, great!

The basic idea of this thread is to...you know. Review video games! Basically, you give your thoughts on the game and most of its aspects, and just tell the world how you feel about it. Generally a pretty fun thing, although some people (me) tend to rant a little once they get going...feel free to comment on someone elses reviews, but remember, the point of this is to review games, not comment on reviews. ;) Oh, and please don't review pokemon, because 1) that's not what this forum is for and 2) we really already know how the majority of us feel about those games.

I'll start us off! :o

Just a warning though, this review contains spoilers, and not to mention, it's LONG.

----------

Mortal Kombat: Deception

First and foremost, let me just say. I loved this game. It's possibly my favorite in the Mortal Kombat series, beating out even MKII (HUGE in my book), and I just wanted to get that part out of the way before I start picking at the flaws in this game.

One of the newest modes with the most hype around it is obviously, Konquest. An RPG mini-game that allows you to travel and discover that past of a new playable character, Shujinko. You start from the very beginning of his martial arts career, when he's a cocky teenager taking lessons from a morbidly obese master, (but, according to the MK laws of physics, he can flip around like a monkey) and just starting to learn the ways of a true warrior. Eventually, after you learn such complicated maneuvers like; moving forward, or (gasp), moving BACKWARDS, Bo'Rai Cho (the fat gymnast in question), will teach you how to perform his various martial art skills (sumo and drunken fist), and even throw in a few combos with his lesson.

Now, this is kind of cool at first...but I'm afraid I have to emphasize on the word FIRST. As you'll be taken through the same kind of tutorial for nearly EVERY character and you'll learn EVERY style of their 'k'ombat, along with basic combos, advanced combos and LINKING combos. While this is a clever way to integrate a tutorial system into a gameplay mode, I couldn't help but feel just a little bored in what was supposed to be the most immersive and deep part of the game...now, that's not say Konquest doesn't have its upsides. You get to meet (and, if you feel like it, punch), almost every character who was ever involved in the MK universe. That's quite cool...and it might be funner, if they didn't sound like a dying moose. Yes, the voice acting is SO SO TERRIBLE in this game I wanted to stab myslef in the ears with a toothpick. Turn down the volume when you play Konquest if you value any sanity you have.

After Konquest, there's also two OTHER mini-games thrown in. Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat are so insanely addicitve you might just find yourself playing them even more than the actual fighting part of the game. Puzzle Kombat (a transparent, but well done rip off of Capcoms 'Puzzle Fighter'), pits two big-headed adorable kombatants against each other in a gruesome, cuddly fight to a gorey death. It's a tetris clone with some blood thrown in, and frighteningly fun.

Chess Kombat is a lovely blend of chess and Mortal Kombat. It functions similarly to regular chess, where you try to take the square and, essentially, take the King. However, things aren't so easy in the MK world. In order to take a square, you must fight for it. Literally. You're thrown into kombat, in which you either kill the defender, or you don't get the square you want.

Throughout all these modes, you gain koins (the K thing is getting old for me, too), which you spend in the Krypt to unlock various goodies, including cinematics, biographies, and even a character or two. This is a nice touch and a good way to reward gamers for putting hours in on certain modes in order to master them, although more than once I spent hundreds of coins just to get a picture of one of the members of the staff. ...Nothing I'm about to drool over.

There's a new plethora of characters you can choose from, ranging from classics, to new originals to some of the lesser knowns (Ermac and Sindel spring to my mind), all of whom have three fighting styles. Two martial arts forms, and one weapon. This adds a great deal of variety and choice for the player, as each style wielded by a character are, for the most part, quite different.

Which brings me to the bulk of the game...the fighting. It's done well. Quite well, in fact. Although people who have too much time on their hands (ie: me) will notice a few flaws. The controls are slow sometimes. Slooow and at times, unresponsive. However one can remedy this problem by mastering a few basic combos to spice things up a little, but I can't help but wonder why the creators of this game didn't notice in the ages of time they spent. Maybe you should take some time away from Konquest and Puzzle Kombat to fix the actual game part, eh Midway?

The plot...one of the biggest attractions for MK fans has been the plot, and this one, in my opinion, is done well enough to pass for me. But I must admit. One of my least favorite characters, Liu Kang, was killed off in the last game, and I thought, 'Yaayy, the attention hog is gone!' and he was, and it was good. Only in THIS game, he comes back as if it's some bad form of fanfiction as a rotting-zombie-ghost-thing. It's getting. Old.

...I know I'm being a little critical, but that's only 'cause I love this game and this franchise. This is a great game for any MK fan, and the casual fighting gamer might want to pick this up as well.

Violent games can be fun, but I feel this crosses the line. Howver, I gave it 2 because it did win the popularity of many people. And the conspet is interesting. But nothing special, at all.

And, I think you after awhile should post another game. You know so people don't just start posting other games to be reviewed. :)

Probably will, I've got enough reviews to create a short novel, so it's not much of a problem. I do encourage anyone who wants to to review games themselves though, although I may hop in and post a new one to bring this topic back into the world of the living. >_>

I can easly say that I am the biggest Mortal Kombat fan on these forums. I grew up with this game and never stoped loving it since. I have every Mortal Kombat title except MK Gold for the sega dremcast..

Favorite Character: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Smoke.
Least Favorite: Kai, Jarek and Hsu Hao.
Favorite Title: Mortal Kombat 2
Least Title: Mortal kombat 3

Mortal Kombat Deception: bought this game the very firstday it hit the market, played a number of online fights (record: 350-70). I love the death traps and all the characters but there was something missing. I think if all the levels had death traps and the the effects were a bit more gruesome, then this game would have been a perfect 10. Also the boss battling and the fact that you can set the difficult to very easy and destroy the games main concept. :x , I think if Goro and Shao Kahn were both playable for X-box also, then making Reptile and Cage the two secret characters for the Gamecube, then this change would have made fans alot happier.

I love Super Mario 64, but I think is a bit poor comparing to Super Mario World.

I mean, we could have more diferent Yoshis, and, though I loved those Mario Caps, I prefered the way Mario transformed himself into racoon and fire Mario!

Some of the stages are preety hard, like the ones in the room you only access after having 70 stars. These are my faves!

Overral, I give 8/10.

I'm not use to reviewing but...

Star Trek: Elite Force II

I'll begin with the introdution to the game. The music is great and the scean of the Enterprise flying through space is well done and fits in well with the music. The music is a slight alteration of Star Trek: Elite Force however I don't particulaly like the voice-over near the beginning.

You are Alex Munro and Voyager is trapped within a Borg Sphere (this is actually what happens in Star Trek: Voyager's series final

I havent got Timesplitters 3, so I'll do Timesplitters 2:

TimeSplitters 2

First and foremost, this game is the BOMB!! It's pretty easy to get to grips with, there are lots of cool charectars like R-109 and Gretel Mk II and the story mode is really good. The music is simply awesome, and it also adds that scary touch to the game. Th arcade league is also a good addition which allows you to unlock tons of new people, and after this you must be wondering how the normal arcade is is?? Well, it is simpy sensational!! The number of actual arenas are amazing, and the number of game modes are also very good. The bad points are:

1. The story mode is a bit too complicated.

Thats the only bad point!! I urge you to either get this or Timesplitters 3, because you wont regret it a bit!!!!

Final Score: 10/10

I'd review some of the games you suggested, but I honestly don't have much time left right now, so here ya go, old one!

--------

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

In what can truly be called one of the masterpieces in the gaming industry, Bioware has presented us with a Star Wars game that *gasp* doesn't totally suck! Even though some may beg to differ on that matter, I digress.

At the start of the game, you're given the choice between 3 different starting classes, and male or female. Once you accomplish that, you're allowed to pic EVERYTHING about your character. Their face, their stats, etc.

Now, when the game begins, you start on a ship being commanded by a Jedi named Bastilla Shan, only it's being invaded by sith, and you must save her. Unfortunately, by the time you arrive to where she's supposed to be, she's already left the Endar Spire (The ship you're on) and you must follow her with a man named Carth.

What follows is you crashing on a planet named Taris, and working your way through disease infested underworlds and swoop bike gangs, and so much more. When you finally rescue her, she turns out to be a bitch resourceful leader.

The story that follows is definitely a work of art, and FAR superior to the garbage that was labeled Episode I and Episode II and is every bit as enthralling as the original trilogy.

The battle system is amazingly well thought-out. See, there are two little gnomes in your XBox or PC, that roll dice and determine EVERYTHING you do pretty much...how much damage, and all that. However, the combat is turn-based, and the game encourages you to pause and think out your actions before executing them. The action sequences are great, and you will NEVER be able to use your lightsaber and not voice those 'Bzzzzt' sounds. You don't feel like you're wielding a + 6 short sword, but you are!

Another huge part in the gameplay, is the ability to play as a dark side, or a light side character. While this doesn't have AS big as an impact as it should, it's very fun and interesting. You actually end up caring about your character, about whether they crush the galaxy or save it. Your decisions decide what happens to your character, and they can even end up affecting their look a little.

But then the game DOES have its flaws...like the unberable loading times. Hard to get through. You're definitely going to spend at LEAST 30 minutes spending at a load screens altogether. And then the graphics..they're not bad by any means. The environments ARE detailed, and the character's faces are detailed and actually show emotion, but they just aren't up to standard with what the XBox offers.

The game won over 30 'Game of the Year' awards, and I believe it deserved EVERY ONE of them, despite a few minor flaws. This is the epitome of what a Star Wars game should be.

I'm not too good either at reviews,

Here's a review comparing the Spider-Man games.

Spider-Man
Personally I thought this game was decent, the gameplay and graphics weren't as good as the other games, though this one had a better story, the others weren't as good. Though there are cheat codes which makes this a plus. The Bosses in the game were kinda easy, though I have to admit, Mysterio and Carnage took a long time to beat, the others were just pathetic.

Graphics - 6/10
Gameplay - 5/10
Story - 9/10
Codes - 10/10

Total- 30/40

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro

Same Gameplay as Spider-Man, though there's Target Lock, Stealth is Select instead of L2 and of course you can now shoot Impact Webs while you're swinging or in the air, though you lose the Punch + Impact Web combo, which changed to Yank over your head. The Graphics have slightly improved, there's new Costumes, Comics and Villains, though sadly these villians are alot easier than the other ones in the Spider-Man game. The Training levels are just okay, I only played these are not the other ones in the first game, since I pretty much know how to do everything. The story line was okay, not as good as the first one though. And some codes like Full Health and Invulnerable (He won't flinch when hit and can't be hurt) are gone.

Graphics - 7/10
Gameplay - 6/10
Story - 7/10
Codes - 8/10

Total 28/40

Spider-Man: The Movie
Ah my fav out of the Spider-Man games, Great Gameplay with new moves like Haymaker, Tackle, Head Hammer just to name a few.
There are also new powers, the Advanced Impact Web (Enhanced Mode), Advanced Web Dome and Advanced Web Hands. And you can even yank enemies around you (You can do this in the Spider-Man 2: The Movie, though it's easier to yank them in this game, Enhanced Mode).
There are also new feature's in this game, The Yo-yo trick, Zip-Line while on a building, Camera Lock mode, and a way to make tight turns when swinging fast. Sadly you lose the Ice, Taser and Fire web.....
You can even play as Green Goblin, and there are other codes where you change into Mary Jane, Shocker or some other people.
The Graphics are great, you can actually see the sun reflecting off of a building!
Sadly the Villains are kinda easy (except Sticky Rice), though what would you expect with great Gameplay? The story isn't as good as the other two, but it's still decent. Also there's no code for Invulnerability, which makes me sad...., though there are some fun ones like Spiderbyte (Makes you tiny), Joelspeanuts (Makes enemies have Big Heads and Feet, doesn't work on Robots, except the Super Soldiers.)

Graphics - 9/10
Gameplay - 9/10
Story - 9/10
Codes - 8/10

Total 35/40

Spider-Man 2: The Movie
Alright personally I was very disapointed when I found out, they took out the Impact Web and replaced it with a different Impact Web they only stuns them.
Web Dome and Web Hands are also gone!
Personally I didn't think this game was very good, this Spider-Man game became more like the other fighting games, all you can do to hurt them is to punch them, Oh and there's no Tackle, Haymaker, Head Hammer, etc., They pretty much got rid of everything from the older games.

Let's next? No Swinging?

Some moves in the game were good like the Grapple and The Stair Stepper, though I would rather have Tackle and the others from the first movie.

No Codes at all, Graphics are just okay, they aren't as good as the first Movie Game, No Unlockables, unless you collect every Skyscraper and Secret token. The story wasn't very good either, all you do is beat up guys and deliver pizzas, *yawns, turns off system and replaces with Spider-Man: The Movie* The only plus is how big the City is, I think it's pretty good.

Graphics - 8/10
Gameplay - 3/10
Story - 3/10
Codes - 0/10 (There are none)

Ouch, Total 14/40.

If Marvel/Treyarch were to combine all these games, with the Story of Spider-Man, Gameplay of Spider-Man: The Movie, The Ice, Taser and Fire webs from the PS1 games and the City of the Spider-Man 2: The Movie, they'd have a great game! Oh and graphics on Spider-Man: The Movie.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

This is one of the best gameboy advance games ever! And do to the fact you can completely customize your characters, the possibilties are limitless! This game is also one of the best FF games out there, just because of it's uniqueness compaired to FFI-X and CrystalChronicles. This is by far is a must have for all those Final Fantasy fans out there.

Overall rating
9.5/10

The graphics are the only things keeping it from getting 10/10.

First off, on spiderman 2, this is 1 code. If you have no saved games and you call your game hcrayert it will ask for another name, when you make that one you will ahve beaten all the bosses. and be on level, 16 I beleive. Anyways, here's mine.

Timesplitters 3: Future Perfect
Okay, let's take on first the one you can see without even playing the game. The title, what were they thinking, "Future Perfect"? Huh? Anyways, it was a good game and if you don't want spoilers DON'T read on.
The plot. Okay, it's got a nice beginning, Cortez coming in with the time crystals. It has him being attacked, a hooded stranger, a cross-dressing 70's funmasta, a cleaning robot, and of course, a Dr. Evil style badguy fight on a train! It's quite fun and it's got a cool wraparound plot, like how one of the first guys in who just seems to be some guy in a cloak turns out to be cortez from the future, or who you play the same level twice, in different spots. In the first level, against the splitters you see shots coming from a cliff and you wonder who's firing, in the second-last level, you discover it's you. Lots of fun here good game.
The graphics. What can I say, they did some cool effects with the splitters and the splitter crow, or splitter-crows "hideout", but other than that average PS2 graphics.
Overal~~34/50. Pretty fun, worth a rental.

Godzilla: Save The Earth
The Plot. Well, interesting as there is no real plot. It has the stroy of this one chick trying to get the G-cells, all of godzilla's power packed into a capsule, but that's a fairly quick thing (twenty-thirt minutes to beat). The main focus is unlockables and 2-player. Beat it to get high scores and gain points, with which you can buy allery shots, pics from the new movie, Godzilla: Final Wars, new arenas for multiplayer, and new monsters. My favorites are Godzilla 2000, Godzilla '90s, Mothra, who is cool as you start as baby and then as long as you L2+R2 before you die, pupilate into adult mothera, wich has new moves, new look (compared to baby) and a full health bar! In action mode it's annoying to fight becasue it pupilates right before it dies, Mechagodzilla 3, and Rodan.
The Graphics.Well, ummm, average Ps2, except some cheesy effects.
Overal~~20/50 Fun game, worth the 25 canadian dollars, but just so short, full of cheats which is nice, but not enough to save it, inn a week or two I had everything unlocked, but 2 player is awesome, if you're a godzilla fan it's perfect so don't let the rating get you down.

Those are a few breif ones, updates later?

Post subject:  splinter cell chaos theory

First anyone played splinter cell chaos theory.

it is a spy game in case you don't know.now where to start of,

it is a very good game, it has exalent graphics, it is also very realistic You have to have a very tatticle and stratigic mind to be able to play this game.

Anyway you are a splinter cell called sam fisher in 2007. you are trying to stop these men from stealing nuclear and biological weapons. there are approximatley 14 levels i think, in the game. there is also a exalent 2 player splitscreen on co-op mode. the missions are not as long or have as many objectives, but they are just as hard or harder so far. i have only recentley got it so i dont know the most about it. i'll edit it when i know more about it.

i think it is a 9/10 game.

The Graphics suck... nothing else to say there.

Unlockables.are pretty cool, theres a few passwords, but i am not tellin gYOU them... har har har....
