Piano:6 years
Viola (NOT VIOLIN!): 1 and a half years
I started playing the viola last year and I learned really fast, so I skipped a level of orchestra after a summer vacation of lessons from a private teacher.

I was taught the piano for a couple of years and the cello for three years after that. I was in the advanced orchestra from the start and everyone always told me i was really good. I didnt believe them. I thought i wasnt very good so i quit . I kinda miss it but it opened up space in my schedule for things i like more: like the drums which i play now. I play them in regular band and jazz band. I also continue teaching myself on the piano and occasionally compose my own songs .

I bonk drums, am learning trumpet and vibes, and sing. Does singing count as an instrument?

I used to play trupet. I was firs chair in our band (there were only four trumpitiers). I had to quit becauce of my asthma. I ocasonaly tinker with my piano/harpsicord, and my keybord, but I'm not that good.

no jazz bands have been around a heck of a lot longer than rock bands. and most high schools in the US should sponsor some form of a jazz band and/or pep (marching) band along with the usual orchestra class.
btw i play the alto sax in jazz band.

I play piano too ^_^ My mom also started me on the harp. >_> Those things are scarey. I'm afraid I'm going to get squished. Not to mention that I can't play over 45 minutes a day or I'll get blisters >_< Ow.

Stevie Ray Vaughan
John Mayer
Freddie King
North Mississippi Allstars
Robert Randolph
etc...

I play trumpet, mostly, but I sing and play a little piano. I've been playing trumpet for almost 7 years and I sing on and off...and I just started piano, but I'm progressing really quickly. I love Phantom of the Opera (and other Andrew Lloyd Webber stuff) and John Williams' music, but I'm willing to play most anything. I'm first chair/trumpet in all of my groups right now, too...though none of them are too good, so it doesn't mean much.

I'm pretty sure Harry Conick's trumpet player would kill both of you.

I play the piano and I make midi's on my computer, but playing an instrument for that doesn't count just the notes and the sound though.
