often times, pokemon is portrayed as juvenile or "corny." this one goes beyond:

http://www.cephasministry.com/save_our_ ... oklet.html

isn't that frightening. i laughed myself silly tho b/c it was such an "intellectualized" exaggeration on the effects of a video game phenomenon.

the most disturbing instruction this booklet gives to parents of pokemon fans:
3. To teach young children a Biblical attitude toward evil before they learn to delight in gross, ugly characters, make comments such as, "Who would want to play with that evil monster? I don't even like to look at him. Let's find something that makes us feel happy inside."

also strange: "Why would Satan influence a game like Pokemon? It opens up players to the demonic realm, channeling (a power some of the pokemon characters have), and possession."

jeez its just a game...

this isnt news, there will always be misguided individuals, who, while they have only the best of intentions, do not actually understand the situation... having just finished a full school year in a Bible Studies course, i can only tell you that the words of the Bible, which these individuals use as almost the sole basis of their support for their claims, if either not taken in context or misunderstood, can be twisted and molded into almost anything you could conceivably want to find in it, and becomes potentially dangerous to the unguided minds that do not understand it...

I have to agree with Linx, stupid people will be afraid of things they don't understand, and will usualy try to rationalize this fear. The most common type of this rationalization is to call it evil, unholy, or some such bull. If they would actualy look at it (not gonna happen, but just pretend that it would) they would find nothing offensive, but they refuse to look at it, and let the paranoia control them. Unfortunately, there is no reasoning with most of these people, mainly because of the stubornness that lead to the fear in the first place. These are not nessisarily bad people, just stubborn, stupid, or both. Sorry to rant on and on, but these people truely frustrate me.

Psh. Obviously people that are saying "pokemon is Satan's" have been locked up in their houses all day watching Barney. There is a lot of things millions times worse than pokemon out there.

I just wanna say, the rules mean nothing! Glitches mess up all the time, I hope my luck works right and they'll go in my favor, I know the rules but you could still find me chuckin masterballs at other trainers pokemon, trying to run away from pika etc. obedience isn't in there at all. And I'm also not obsessed, I play with it every moment I can, but I can stop, I can stop, any time I want, I just, I just don't wanna. Xp but seriously I ain't obsessed, I play wiht it a lot, and same with computer, but I still walk to the mall daily, eat sorta healthy foods, read comics, read book (in 1 day I made it to chapter 11 in Harry Potter VI!) have freinds and such.

Well bobashotmace you do like your glitches ^^;;, and anyway anybody can stop, if it's totally new to you your going to polay it for a while, but if it ain't you just play a little at a time.

But does pokemon really teach us morals? Think about Colosseum, your stealling the shadow pokemon, but to save them from being evil, kinda sends a mixed message to the little kids.

You know what's going in the minds of the people that wrote that? Why aren't they going on about games like Final Fantasy? It's much more violent, and they're always going one about how Mortal Combat is violent. It's probably because the'yre fighting evil. But isn't Team Rocket supose to be evil??

You know it's people like this who make the world crazy like it is...

BTW: CyberX, Junepei (Head Ninja on Dragon Flare) is Japanesse, so your not the only Asain person here.

.....Isn't that called learning? Developing habits from certain stimuli is just a fancy way of saying "you live, you learn." Yeah, I got good (sorta) at the game, but I don't feel pokemon has changed me psychologically, except that now I have something else to debate about with my little brother. They're right, you have to follow the rules... because it's a game. If there weren't rules, the game wouldn't exist. You might as well say football is satanic.

But honestly, please don't jump to conclusions about organized religion because of things like this. I think a lot of people see things like this and think all Christians are that way, quick to condemn anything new. It's not true, and I hope people aren't being driven away from God's love because of a few rash statements on the part of the more conservative factions.

BTW, I don't think Pokemon is all that violent. And I'm glad, since I think it desensitizes people to have their characters get killed and just be able to bring them back like it's nothing. If it was like that I would be a little worried about my little bro and sis playing the game. But instead the Pokemon just faints and then you have to take it to the nurse. There's certainly no blood involved. Compared to many RPGs that's pretty tame. And although they did address the issue of death with things like Cubone's mother, they made it into a serious and sad event, and taught kids to respect the person who died. In a way I think that's better than just pretending everything is always fine in the world.

I dont see anyone here making broad generalizations about christianity or any other religions, i dont think your fears are warranted... also, i think you meant "extremist" not "conservative"...

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to accuse anyone! I was just throwing that out there for anyone who might read this. ^_^;; I've just been in this kind of discussion before, and ususally someone will jump in with some kind of comment about their crazy religious parents or something... No, I didn't think you guys were saying that at all, but I do know that some people are turned off by this kind of thing, so I thought I should defend my position a bit. Sorry if I came across that way.

RPG's are the best, because you overcome evil and/or your enemies, and the player wants to be the main person in the game-to defeat the enemies. And nuts to them if they think people playing pokemon are being occult. Pah. If anything, playing the pokemon games has brought people together-talking about it from all over the world. And I'm sure that the games have taught us planning and attention (with all the puzzle -solving).*a 7-year-old girl jumped off a balcony apparently believing she was a Pokemon character with superhuman powers.*
There's something wrong with the GIRL, not the game.^

So I think their opinion can be summed up in one short(ish) word. *B0110<K

Ahhh. The Gameshark. . . Cheating is not honorable. But many of you have requested and sent me this information, so I have put it up for all you cheaters."

Jesus give me a break man.

Quote:
Children from Christian homes may have learned to say, "Thy will be done," but in the role-playing world, this prayer is twisted into "My will be done!" God, parents, and pastors no longer fit into the picture fantasized by the child.

Yes, when playing pokemon kids say "My will be done".
Quote:
"It seemed to us that these cards had some sort of power," continued DiAnna Brannan. "Another nine-year-boy had stolen money from his mother's purse ($7.00) to buy more cards. When questioned, he confessed and said he had heard the devil urging him to do it. The family quickly gathered in prayer, then saw God's answer. Both the boy and his little sister burned their cards, warned their friends, and discovered the joy and freedom that only comes from following their Shepherd.

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. Yes, the devil told him to steal money to buy pkmn cards.

In conclusion it is obvious Satan is using Pokemon to turn kids against God.

I'm sorry Dragonfan.. But that last thing about Satan telling them to buy more cards, then burning them and warning their friends, that really reminds me of the family "Flanders" on the Simpsons, and I'm currently laughing myself into crying.
That whole page was laughable.
What does God and Pastors have to do with a really fun RPG?
This is the worst bull I've ever heard..

No thats different, football is satanic, cuz see, it teaches you to follow rules, and you have to learn rules, plus, you have to beat up people if you want to.

I agree with you 100% Simon. If the parents weren't there to watch the girl and teach her about how not everything can be considered realistic in this world, then it's not only a problem with the girl, but also with the parents themselves!

And burning Pok

....um, pointing fingers isn't going to solve this. I doubt they're "being controlled by the devil." Some people just fear what they don't understand. While burning cards is a little extreme, I could understand it if the kid's parents told him he's not allowed to play pokemon anymore, since he did steal the money to buy cards. Not because pokemon is evil, but because the kid did something wrong and needs to be punished.
Honestly, I'll bet some of the stories pokemon fans tell about religious fanatics are just as exaggerated as the stories these groups are publishing about pokemon. I'm not sure I believe either side entirely.
