Now I might be the only one who noticed this, but how many people, as soon as they start playing a game from a gen they nevered played on before, they practially pwn everything because they are too busy trying to catch as much pokemon as they can so their pokemon end up being like 2 or 3 levels higher than the NPCs in the game?

What version of pokemon you're currently playing?

I've never been a 'catch 'em all' person. However, in Diamond, when I first got it, I did train like crazy a lot. I thought it would be as hard a Emerald or even Sapphire, but it turns out I over-trained by at least 10 levels for everything because the game was too easy compared to what I was used to.

I usually try to catch everything I haven't, but I level crunch before I go into any city anyways, in heartgold I evolved my cyndaquill before I beat falkner xD

I caught pretty much everything in Diamond (my first Pokemon game). I ended up with a PC loaded with Pokemon, at least 80% of those useless. Do I regret it? Eeeyup.

First times?

Gen 1: Oh boy, the Pokémon!
>Use the starter to burn through everything, catch everything I see and never use them
Gen 2: Oh boy, the NEW Pokémon!
>Repeat
Gen 3: Oh boy, even more new Pokémon!
>Repeat but with more punching
Gen 4: Oh... oh dear... I hate this...
>Don't play, wait for GSDS
Gen 4, HeartGold: Now that is right up my alley
>Train things evenly, but ignore almost every wild Pokémon
Gen 5: Oh boy! I like this!
>Train things evenly and catch everything I see, don't learn all the names until I get the 3DS Pokédex

Let me guess... Your starters were, in order, Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Infernape (or Piplup), Samurott.
Am I right?

Yes, yes, yes, no, no. I didn't play D/P/Pt. Or, well, when I finally did, I traded an in-progress team from HeartGold to it to do the job and get some levels and items out of it. But I still never finished and I doubt I ever will. I did end up getting a Torterra in HeartGold to help me counter a nasty Sandstorm/Stealth Rock team... but she didn't start anything.

In White, I never let my Dewott evolve. I love Dewott, it's one of my favorite new Pokémon out of all of Gen 5, but I don't really care for Samurott. Unfortunately, post-game, it's clear that Dewott is practically unusable if you're playing for keeps. Eviolite helps but it doesn't make Dewott very good at anything that Samurott can't do better. And what Samurott can do, I'm not going to bother with using when there are so many other water-types I do like... and, you know, water-types that are better at abusing rain. There's only so much room on one Drizzle team, and it shouldn't and won't even be all water-type. You could say it's overflowing with potential found elsewhere...

The most I can hope for is Red getting replaced by Hilbert or Hilda in the next Smash Bros., and that he or she will pack Snivy, Dewott and Emboar. Sounds like a combination that would cover the most ground, as I feel Red's team in Brawl did...
