Hello all,

So recently I decided to re-play Platinum. Which involved a lot of trading, as anyone who has ever tried to move between games would know. This is the second time I have moved games. I am just starting to build up a few boxes full of "competitive" pokemon, and I've just started to do considerable IV breeding. HGSS is easier to breed on because of the expanded everstone effect, but the lack of the versus seeker makes rapidly leveling a pokemon up to 50 not nearly as easy as it is in DPP. To me it seems like the only way to really get a fast system of hatching and training is to get another DS. For example, I had so many water stones in that old Platinum file, but getting just one water stone is much harder in HGSS then in was in DPP. I guess I'm just starting to figure this out, but by the time I do B&W will be out so it won't matter.

Anyway, I'm organizing my boxes on HGSS and I was wondering what an experienced breeder would do to keep PC boxes organized. I tried organizing by type on the last game, but it definitely wasn't very efficient. I'm thinking maybe organizing by egg group but that might be more annoying than useful..

my boxes are only semi-sorted. i have my main box with HM slaves, main party, camerupt, and my breeding ditto + smeargle. a box for cool stuff. a box for competitive trained pokes. a box with male pokemon from past breeding projects (they have egg moves and good IVs, i might want to breed more later) then the rest are sorted by overall IVs (hurrah for the battle tower judge!) 4-5 boxes for the outstanding IV babies, sorted by gender. the rest of the boxes hold any leftover "relatively superior" babies for trading. any babies that had lower overall stats get immediately released.
I tend to clean out most of my boxes before every breeding project. I collect ~300 eggs, then hatch them later with some pokemon in the daycare that i want to level to 100. (usually the same gender so i'm not faced with even more eggs)

sorting by the "quality" of the pokemon might be the way to go if you're going to be doing a lot of IV breeding.

I do mine by type, and it works fine for me. I also keep separate boxes for my battle pokemon. But I would also organize by egg groups or levels if I had the time to completely redo my boxes, although eventually all of your pokemon would all be in the level 100 box.

I do mine by type as well, combining smaller types (dragon/ghost/fire/etc.) and allowing larger types (normal/water/etc.) to have their own boxes. I've done this since GS, when we were allowed to rename boxes and move Pokemon around. I only have 10 or so boxes of Pokemon, I have two boxes for legendaries/event Pokemon, a box for egg Pokemon (or Pokemon that I use for breeding) and a box of Pokemon that are usable on WiFi.

I have my boxes organized by alphabetical order for my Pokemon that I use over WiFi. I also have seperate boxes for legendary and event Pokemon, which those too are organized in alphabetical order. I really ony started doing this in Ruby and Fire red.

Krisp reminded me, some of my types share boxes, too. There's a box for rock/ground/steel/dragon, a box for ghost/dark/poison, and flying and normal share a box. Water has two boxes so far.

I don't organize my pokemon that are in boxes except by if I am using them or not but during the 3rd Gen & earlier portion of my 4th Gen experience, I had it like this;

1. Electric/Steel
2. Fire/Dragon
3. Water/Ice
4. Grass/Poison/Bug
5. Psychic/Ghost/Dark
6. Fighting/Rock/Ground
7. Normal/Flying
8. Legendary Pokemon Box
9. Special Unown Box
10. Special Pokemon Team Box
11. Special Shiny Pokemon Box

It was based on their first type so...

Later I just did it type by type with every single type separate based on their first type...the only difference between now & then is that I don't separate the types anymore but do separate everything else, contest pokemon go in my Pokemon Team Box, also if anything needs another box, then I just make arrangements, I did it then & I still do it now...

It really all depends on what you're hoping to accomplish through breeding. For example, breeding for a certain ability/nature for competition doesn't require all that assortment. I sort my boxes similarly to Trout, my main boxes being competitives, useful Pokes, legendaries, babies, eggs and misc.

Likeisaid, it really depends on what you're breeding for.

If naming boxes for organizing eggs, I would suggest doing by Egg Group, as you said.
I currently have my boxes in HG organized by region, starters, and legendaries.
KANTO, K2, K3, JOHTO, J2, J3, etc.. LEGENDS, LEGENDS 2, STARTERS.

I used to organize by rarity. Abundant, Common, etc., but finding a Pokemon took too long.
