Okay. I was looking around on some sites and i found a certain page that amazed me how mathematical it was. So. This page explains how complicated algebra is involved into throwing a pokeball and watching it jiggle back and forth.

Now, i know its bulbapedia but whatever. it's amazing. and i have been trying to do a page of it and it's ridiculous. i don't even know how to enter it into my calculator. i guess it's my fault for deciding to try and catch a giratina (based on the data i put in) but JESUS F***!

Asians are nerds, it was obviously going to happen.

That is probably comparatively easy math compared to most games for the consoles.

exactly what i said! i may have failed algebra, but thats cause i didn't do homework, i did great on tests. except for the EOC because... she wouldn't let me take it D: apparently irresponsible people can take the class over. ANYWAYS, I KNOW! it took me an hour to find B. and finding P or whatever, not even gonna try.

Going to have to go with big j on this one the math may be confusing but it is not the hardest thing out there
think about the ivs evs and other hidden stats those are probibly just as hard or harder than this stuff

i know. but it just surprises me. and this is the only equation for anything like this i've found. most people know about the percentages and rates and stuff, but the equations are something the game does on it's own in seconds and we don't really realize it. I just find it amusing that throwing a ball and watching it jiggle back and forth is this complicated. think if we had to do this math everytime before to know how much it would jiggle. then again... if we could do it easily, we would be pokemon masters.

...counting evs is hard for you?? all you have to do is sit there while battling/giving vitamins with this site open... oh, and i think there's an iv calculator on this site as well, so, tadah!
@m_b: why do you want to know the math behind it?? i usually just spam ultra balls to catch legends. lol

haha, I don't want to really KNOW it. I barely know any of the stuff i learn in Algebra, that's why i get to take it again. :P And dude, when i'm going to go get me some legendaries I just Dusk Ball the **** out of them. or Fast Ball them (or is it Quick? who cares) if it's like Entei/Raikou or those 3 things Azelf/Mespirit whatever theyre called. Yess.

I could PROBABLY turn this into a calculator program, or something. It is just a long string of arithmetic, and pretty simple at that.

Of course, then again...hmm

So pokemon is just a big math problem? Figures....

I think that math didn't only apply in catching pokemon, i think there's more like the success probablity of berry blending, and else. Oh well, i don't really understand the math but i think it is hard.

i did it aprently a sleeping pidgy at lvl2 with 1 HP + ultra ball = a 1/100 chance of capture
Random guy "carry the 2"
oh i mean a 100/100 chance of capture

One of my favourite quotes regarding Pokemon was from game designer David Sirlin who said (more or less)

"I set out to make a Pokemon game for adults. In order to do this, I had to massively simplify it."
