I like pokemon because most of them are cool looking. There are still a lot of reason that i like pokemon but i can't figure them out. I was like being addicted to pokemon.

Well, the designs certainly are a part of my like of Pokemon, but it's mostly the open-endedness; I'm attracted to games that give you what you need and then set you free to do what you wish. The depth of the strategy involved in the battling system is also a reason; it can take days to simply pick out a team, and weeks to actually obtain it.
The mining system is amusing as well; I've likely spent just as much time underground, mining, as I have overground, hatching eggs.
XD

Bulbasaur.
There's a pretty steady curve as far as the in-game difficulties: an easy single-player campaign, which ramps up in difficulty as you play the extras beyond the E4 (Battle Towers and whatnot). Getting creamed in the tower on Seven Island in LGFR got me interested in the deep metagame, which now has me hankering after some PvP once I get D/P.
There's something satisfying about watching that super-effective attack hit that just makes me tingle inside, too.

Hard to say, really.
I played Pokemon because it was popular at the time. I borrowed my friend's Yellow version and got hooked. When I returned it to him, I asked to get a GBC and Gold version for Christmas. And I played it for 3 years straight before getting bored. The collecting feature and raising Pokemon to high levels? Stop right there, friend, you had me there.
However lately I've been feeling like it's becoming too tedious for me. My attention span for Pokemon is suffering from something, and I've been playing other games, like ...well, the names aren't really pertinent here.

I just thought it was fun. I watched the anime & tryed my friends Blue version when it came out. I didn't actually get my first game until Ruby & only played for a few months. Then I got FR & every other advanced gen game, I got hooked collecting & battling. Then when DP came out I discovered the metagame & have been addicted to learning all I can about team building & battling. I love every aspect of the game, its just fun.

I got hooked once I first played. I also like the competitive aspect, the fact you raise things and soon get attached. The Battle Tower/Frontier has always appealed, trying to break my record and win, the strategy of team building...
I think also not having an interactive pet was part of it. I have love for a lot of my Pokemon, even if they're just pixels and data (DID I JUST SAY THAT THEY WERE JUST PIXELS AND DATA )
But yah, once I got to EV training, I found it also a strategy game. Psych the opponent, blast them, predict their moves, etc., it just appealed, and to see other's strategies... soon it just clutched on. I got interested in all the bugs too, being a glitch fan... and yah. It's just so awesome to kind of have a second life in the game (i'm addicted ) and be able to do all that stuff.

In 4th and 5th grade, it started to get popular. By 6th grade, EVERYONE had Pokemon cards, and we used to trade cards in homeroom everyday. Around that time I got the latest Pokemon game, Yellow version. I used to play it all the time when I was supposed to be sleeping...I'd use a flashlight under my blanket to see the screen.
I dunno why I like Pokemon, I guess because it was so popular back in the day, I jumped into the hype and enjoyed collecting the cards. I was disappointed when R/S came out, and my love for Pokemon almost completely died when FR/LG came out. Then one day I started playing Blue version again, and I found Psypoke, and my love for the games was revived.

...not sure if I've posted this before, but
Back before the games came out, a friend of mine went to Japan for this student exchange program. While he was there, he managed to snag a few random gashapon figurines and gave one to me upon returning. A couple of years later, Red and Blue were released here in the US. I wasn't terribly interested in them until a friend let me play his Blue version for a while. He was in the safari zone at the time, so I started walking around. I was so surprised when I saw the character from that figurine pop up on the screen. It was a Chansey. Since then, I've loved the games, and still continue to play each new generation as they come out.
As for what keeps me interested in the games now...
I've always loved searching for rarities in games, no matter the genre. Pokemon is no different, for me. As long as shinies and rare wild hold items exist, I'll keep on playing.

My Mom bought me Pokémon Yellow for my birthday one year. I didnt quite understand it at first, but after a while it got fun and I started playing it more often. I got another Pokémon game, and more and more... then I was sort of obsessed with it.

I posted this a while back in the Kanto Region about how I found out about Pokemon...
MissingNo_Is_My_Friend wrote: Way way back in 1998 I got a videotape in the mail from Nintendo called "A Sneak Peek at Pokemon" that showed a little bit of the GB game, TCG, anime, and the action figures. It had some pretty bad actors and a preview PokeRap, and it explained what Pokemon were and how you had to catch them and battle with them. If I didn't get that vid in the mail, my parents wouldn't have gotten both versions of the game.
Did anybody else get that tape?
So I thought the idea of cathing a bunch of monsters and using them to beat up somebody elses's monsters was pretty cool.
The fact that some Pokemon are harder to find than others really caught my interest.
And this game is highly customizable. Your saved game says a lot about your personality. You pick which monsters you want to use, you name them yourself, you teach them the attacks you want, and you train them the way you want to.
That's why I like Pokemon.

I like pokemon for one reason, and one reason only
*snaps fingers*
GYARADOS HYPER BEAM ATTACK
you know mew2 should have gotten his arse beat in the first movie by Gyarados
No really though the original game was pretty fun with the collecting and battling, but i really love D/P and spend hours upon hours breeding trying to make that perfect pokemon (aka Gyarados) just a little better

I liked Pokemon because of the anime at first (I was either in my late toddler years or like 5, but the first episode I watched was when Ash had to save Gloom from a fire; I kind of have a soft spot for that pokemon now).
I don't know what made me want the games, probably something among the lines of "OMG I CAN OWN POKEMON FROM THE ANIME", or just liking the anime made me want it. ;[

Balance.
A Swalot can beat a Dragonite, A Machamp can beat a Pidgeot, all if trained / formatted correctly.
Not one "all-powerful" pokemon making it pointless to train everything else.

1.) The designs of the Pokémon. Sure, there will always be the Magmortars out there, but so many of them are very inspired. Some of them are really cool, while others are absolutely adorable (or sometimes even further than that), and I'm a sucker for cute things.
2.) The strategy of the games. I am a huge statistics buff, and there are so many stats involved in Pokémon that it enthralls me. At the same time, at its core it's so very simple that even an inexperienced 6-year-old, what I was when I started, could get into the game and learn the basics of strategy. And then as you get older, assuming you don't fall into the "I'm too cool and old to like Pokémon" trap, you start to discover new things about the game you've always been playing, and that's really cool.
3.) The universe Pokémon takes place is really appealing. Being based in Japan, it's slightly foreign, but it's modern and slightly Westernized so that it is still very familiar, and the introduction of Pokémon and some more unusual technology weave in some very entertaining fantasy elements.
4.) The nostalgia. I first got Pokémon Blue for Christmas when I was six, and now I'm eighteen. I have a ton of memories of the games, the show and the card games, and I still do all three today (though the show and the cards in a less serious fashion), not to mention sleep with Pokémon plushies and such. And meanwhile, like I said above, there's no outgrowing Pokémon, so it's all good.

I have no idea why or when I first got into Pokemon. I like it because of all the different creatures. I have a vivid imagination and I like to create creatures and things in my head. I have always been interested things with imaginary creatures anyway. I also enjoy the strategic aspect of the game too. The games also give you something to do because you hardly run out of stuff to do.

A friend of mine was into it, and so I got Emerald. I started playing it, refused to put my gameboy down for weeks. Later got Sapphire, which I donated to my pokemon-deprived sister-thing (She still goes on about her Suicune and Typhlosion from Crystal). Also got FR so I could get some Kantos that I needed.
After that, I just kinda became the pokemon master of the town. O.o It's a small town, so no wonder. Found some other players, and now we never have anyone over here, but the discussion turns to pokemon, and we argue and then battle.
Makes life interesting. I'm also the local Dragonmaster for my work with my .
