I'm curious to see what people use as the names asked for in the beginning of each game.

Do people use their own name (and then someone they hate for the rival, lol)...

...or do you completely make up a name (but stay consistent in all of your games)...

...or, do you do what I do and stick with ASH and GARY?

And, to go into further detail, only because I am obsessively compulsive, do you capitalize all of the letters to match how other trainers' names appear, or do you properly capitalize (ASH or Ash)?

i named my rival after my best friend because at the start it says pick your friends name.

Up till DP i always used Ash/Gary. When i started DP i knew that i would be on wifi, and everyone and their brother probably used Ash, so i used KOL. Like my account on here, and my Xbox gamertag (KOL40 - cause KOL was taken )

On my FR (which I bought from my friend halfway through, and I didn't restart cause I had helped him play through it), he named his rival "Bizatch". lol

I'm consistent in all my games. I'm always Rakshiv and my rival is always Feyrfax.

I'm always consistent as well, I always call myself Sora (just because I use that name everywhere) (although my characters do vary in gender for no obvious reason) and if I can name my rival I always call him Tommy (just because it's the first name I could think of in my first game). Unfortunately when I trade with myself, the similar names can be a real pain because I get very confused on which game is which.

But I always use TOM for myself and IDIOT for my rival.

My Trainer name is always my first name, but my Rivals tend to vary...

In Red, it was the name of this utter #@$% of a girl who was bound and determined to my make my life miserable, so I named my Rival after her (look, I was in middle school, I was venting) - Chasity

In Silver, I think I used the name of my online rival (back in the day of the Porygon Battle Sim, HAH), wiZaRd99

I forgot who my Rival is in Ruby (you never see him, !?!), but I think I named him after some guy from middle school too...

In Diamond, it says to name him after your best friend, so I named him Russell... even though I haven't seen him in probably 20 years (stupid moving away when we were, like, 5). We were best buds back in the day though.


So yeah. I also use ALL CAPS like in Red, no matter what game. Old school nostalgia GO!

Ruby version: Rose (it was Krisp, but I changed it with a gameshark)

Emerald version: Amber (I restarted my file and added a female symbol for no reason )

FireRed version: Matt (Matthew after I restarted)

Diamond version: Squall

I'm not very creative when it comes to names.

Edit: My rival is usually named the default name, because I'm too lazy to think up a name.

Gold/Crystal: Rival is always "???" 'cause I'm too lazy to think of a name (And O don't know any redhead guys except for myself)
In Diamond I named my rival Jay, after my friend. (It says tell your friends name)
In Ruby I called the rival May (Her default name)
In FireRed I named the rival Gary ('Cause that's his name)

PS: Why do I keep misspelling Rival as Rivel?

But I have an excuse for using Ash. I'm not completely uncreative, I just had to find a more masculine version of my name.

My rival's either Brendan, May (well, I can't change that now can I), Landon, Gary, or Kain. Landon was random, Gary is self-explanatory, and the name Cain (or Kain, I like spelling it with a K.)

I named my character in Diamond psynvrn and I named my rival NOBODY.

i use ice now but i used to use my real name and my rival my fiends name, and when i wanted to play as a female charecter i allways used sara. and i now call my rival fire, but its LOL when it says fire wants to battle.
