Post subject:  How should I play my platinum?

I'm restarting my platinum version, and I need help in deciding a team

I can trade over pokemon from my pearl version, but the pokemon traded over will be eggs
I can pre-hatch the eggs to choose the right nature and then turn off/on the game and trade that egg over

I have a few options:
-I build a standard team
-I choose one or two pokemon to trade over and then play the game normal from there
-I specialize in a single type... i.e. steel (Lucario, Metagross, Scizor, Aggron, Empoleon, Magnazone/Skarmory
-don't trade over... play the game normal

I can trade ANY pokemon from pearl, and I have firered, emerald, and ruby to migrate from

btw, I have already played the game, and need to choose quickly so I can beat the game in time to get the special key

So I need help in deciding
The idea here is to rekindle my love for pokemon, and I really haven't tried this before, and I think that this could do the trick please feal free to recommend pokemon after you vote, or don't vote and still comment, because it all helps... thanks :D

What exactly do you mean when you say "build a standard team"?

by standard team I mean building a team of six typically used pokemon

example: Empoleon, Roserade, Espeon, Yanmega, Gallade, Weavile

but recomend your own, and you could use any pokemon, so if I wanted, I could send over a squirtle egg

Personally, I find it more fun to trade a few low leveled Pokémon and run through the entire storyline with them. So I recommend you try and go through with a few traded pokemon.

Mmm, yeah, trade over one or two of your favorite pokemon and play through that way. All but two of my team are traded from pearl.

I got to thinking actually, and I'm wondering if I should build a team completely of water pokemon... or only steel... but idk which

the water team would be...
Kabutops, Feraligatr, Sharpedo, Lanturn, Gyradose, and slowking

or the steel team...
Aggron, Empoleon, Magnazone, Scizor, Lucario, Metagross

or one of the other options... but idk

bug would be hard, but could be fun... or maybe all fossils...

i would say build a standard team. having one of each type on your team is good. for exp. choose a starter with good stats like piplup. then as u continue the game, catch a starly and shinx. the team i beat platinum was: {empoleon} {staraptor} {luxray} {roserade} {houndoom} {garchomp}. now that's a bad ass team! :D

oh by the way, don't build a team with a common type. BAD IDEA!

I've played the games a bunch of times, so I'm a bit tired of building a standard team as I go, so the idea of specializing in a type provides a better challenge, and gives me a chance to pretend I'm a gym leader... because we al wonder what it would have been like for them to play, and every type can use diversity in the group... ie, an electric pokemon is coming out, and I'm a water trainer, so i snd out a lanturn... I absorb his attacks, and deal more damage to him, or maybe a pkemon is charging a solar beam, so I switch to an empoleon, and the grass damage isn't as strong... there are counters, the idea is to know them

Mono-type teams aren't the best. With all different types of the E4 and Gym leaders, you'll be hard-pressed beating, say, Gardenia or Crasher Wake. While it's a nice idea, it may not work given the needed diversity.

If you want, you can make a team of all UU Pokemon, or maybe all Johto Pokemon. That would be neat.
